Could you do orbital enignes that would retract into a (1.25m and 2.5m) heatshield? Something that would allow a capsule with a reusable SM, but without Space X-style radial engines.

Soooo... it could just be that I'm a little slow, but how do you actually steer with the crawler?

EDIT - scratch that. It does steer, I'm a moron, but it does not steer or move particularly well if you resize the crawler part with tweakscale. Steering in either case tends to occasionally introduce a fairly large hiccup into the movement (a sudden jerky stop enough to make a pod fall over).

If you're looking for suggestions, too, then I would say that this would be even more awesome if whatever is hampering movement on the crawler when it is tweakscaled up in size could be ironed out so that one could make giant 5m robots of doom. :)

It seems the Critter Crawler is controlled the same way as a rover.

I was looking at the pictures and realized some of them look like they're not just renders, but as if they were real models (you know, shelf-decorations and such). Either way, awesome detail there.

Got my first Critter Crawler device over to Minmus. It's powered by a UNSFE-100 Nuclear Reactor from Goodspeed because A walking Nuclear Reactor seems very kebral-like.
