Uh oh, I hope we don't have another forumsplotion! That would be catastrophic! :0.0:

It's been happening to me too.

I had one in attempting to reload this very page... So I feel a forum break down might be likely...

It's like a game I've played, whenever you get low frame rates, the game is likely to crash.

Rest assured that we of the forum staff have taken notice of this ourselves. Hopefully today's little string of off-and-on Bad Gateway errors was just a "hiccup," but if it starts becoming a consistent pattern, we'll have the more tech-savvy among us investigate it :)

EDIT: And it seems one of us already has. Seems to be a server-side issue, unfortunately, but again, if it does seriously impair forum usage in the future, we'll make sure it's dealt with.

Alright. I did notice that thread prior to making this, but I wanted to ask if there isn anything I can do from my end. Because the last thing I want is another forum Derp.

Thankfully, SQUAD has been much more diligent about backing up their forum data since then, so it's unlikely we'd lose months' worth of posts like that again. However, unexpected forum downtime is something we want to avoid as much as possible in any case, so we'll be keeping an eye out.

I would like to add to the list of people experiencing this. However it wasn't just the past two days. I've been getting them for over a week. Just a refresh or two fixes it so it's not a real problem right now. Will inform you guys if it gets worse randomly for me.

Yes, I have been getting 502s for a few days now. I think it is to do with the servers acting up. As data is backed up on a regular basis, if we do have a "Forumsplosion", it will only set the forums back by a day or so.

Alright, but if there is something I can do, then let me know.

Multiplay (the host network) has been doing maintenance lately, and apparently today has been a very busy day on the forums which has caused some errors as well. Long story short: they're working on it!

502 Bad Gateway

The server was acting as a gateway or proxy and received an invalid response from the upstream server.

You're going through a proxy which seems to be having issues talking to the webserver hosting the KSP forums.

Ironically, I'm encountering the same thing trying to post this reply ><

I suggest that if The Second Great Forumsplotion occurs, you should make a back up right now. EDIT: You already do, oops.

I'm getting a lot of 502's, and the forum functions seem to break down and glitch after these occur. Then they repair themselves. It's weird.

The errors are caused by the server maxing out its CPU, and then some. The cause is currently not known. Normally the server uses <5% CPU

It seems less weird to me. A proxy is intended to cache information in order to reduce the load on the main webserver. If communications go down between the proxy and the webserver, the proxy will generally continue to serve it's local copy to requests, until the cache is old enough to be deemed invalid. At this time, if the communication is still down, you'll encounter an error.

So ultimately, this kind of up-down-up behaviour we're seeing at the front-end seems normal enough, knowing that there is an issue at the back end.

(And to whoever is trying to fix it, good luck, these things often have an ETA analogous to the length of a piece of string.)

Bit confused here. From the other thread:

"502's occur due to a server between yourself and the KSP forums not responding, there's nothing we can do about it, sorry."

Just seems odd that I only hit a problematic server on the way to the KSP forums. Do you mean a server used by your server host or not? My brain hurts.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
