Got any decent pics, IIRC its that wedge shaped lifting body thing yes? What kind of construction are you thinking of? As i see it most of the shapes involved are pretty specialised to that craft, so going overly modular may be pointless. So perhaps, pod, crew/science part, a central bay part maybe a couple of alts, animated doors etc, tanks that would form the outer hull sections and the tail part and engines, although what that bit looks like is a bit sketchy from memory

I see Crew module, Main Fuselage, Engine, Lwing and Rwing, control surface, Rear Docking Port (1.25 m), Rear body to 3.75 adapter.

Now, Skid i could look at the Biplane skid from Firespitter, and the landing gear i could look into.
