Rescue Missions: How to get orbiting kerbal to board rescue craft?

So far I've been able to get the rescue craft with an empty command module to the floating, orbiting kerbal. I don't know how to get the little guy to do anything except ricochet off the command module. I seem to be missing something...

Help?

You have to switch to the kerbal in orbit. Then you can use his RCS to put him on the ladder and then board.

In order to switch between vessels in physix's range (2.5km) you'll have to use the [ or ] button.

I tried using the space center to select and control the kerbal, be he was not "flyable." I had tried using the map view (M button) to select him from there, but he was not controllable through that interface either. I will try the [] keys...

Haha, I'm just doing Career, and ladder is way ahead in Research. I thought it wasn't needed.

So I eventually got to the poor kerbal, switched to it and knocked to the empty pod. Noone home, lol

Well, actually managed to get into without any extra ladders. There is a hatch on one side of the pod. I like this game, it's challenging!
