The MU DP-1 "Aldrin" Orbital Drop Outpost!

Recommended Posts

Many sci-fi stories feature the capability to "Drop" ships, ground vehicles, and buildings from orbit, enabling rapid building of colonies, armies, and even whole cities.

However, that might seem impossible for KSP. Until now.

Meet the DP-1 Aldrin Orbitally Dropped Outpost, courtesy of the Mechani Union's colonization department.

This state-of-the-art base/outpost is designed to be "dropped from orbit" (deployed on a sub-orbital trajectory) and land safely under its own power.

This is accomplished via a robust parachute system, plus 4 LV-T30 retrorockets.

This base comes in at just under 230,000 funds in career mode, and carry up to 24 kerbals. It's constructed out of 386 parts, and is just under 100 tons.

It's garage can hold most medium-to-small size rovers, and it can be expanded via klaw-equipped add-on modules (in development).

Very nice. What did you launch it with, and how much does the outpost weigh?
Another thing, can you outfit the garage to have a rover inside?

I used a modified launcher (that's still a tad bit glitchy due to the updates) from back in 0.23.5, and the base weighs around 80-90 tons (depending on fuel levels).

I'm looking into spawning it with a pre-loaded rover, but for the time being it'll fit a separately-launched one just fine.

For a rover that'll fit, I have this:
