Highlights for non-reddit people (Maxmaps quotes, list is far from exhaustive):

Aero rework still in planning stages:

"Aerodynamics needs a -lot- of thought before we do any work on it. Pen it as a maybe outside of some much needed polish."

Female Kerbals coming:

"We are actively working on Girlbals (studio petname, not actual name). They will take some time, it's a decent bit of work and we have to get them right. We may be just a small indie studio but we feel that gaming in general should no longer treat women as an afterthought. Even if it's extra work."

New building in 0.25:

"25 will see the growth and further development of the contract systems. We'll also be adding a new building with a spiffy new set of systems within it to make Career mode even more cohesive and interconnected."

Squad to develop other games:

"Way too early to talk about any of that, but we obviously don't want KSP to be our only game."

Resources still unlikely but not impossible:

"Currently no plans to re-add resources within the scope of the game. We still bounce the idea around every now and then to see if that nut can indeed be cracked."

Improving current planets more important than new planets:

"More planets are a big maybe right now. We have to finish making the current ones as good as Kerbin."

No space race planned:

"No plan for a rival agency. Mind you in the studio we consider every contract not picked up to be one that other agencies pick up."

No sales figures released because Mexico (?):

"[When asked about releasing sales figures] We're super iffy on that considering where we operate out of."

Since edited to:

"As a private company we're not really throwing that info out there, sorry!"

PhysX GPU acceleration unlikely:

"We do our best to keep up with Unity, GPU accelerated PhysX is incredibly iffy though. If it continues to be an Nvidia exclusive we'd rather not leave every AMD user out in the cold."

Squad game development separate from marketing:

"We split. Squad Marketing and Squad Games use the same building but that's it."

Later:

"We're legally two companies now. We just share a building. We're an indie dev."

Scope completion not sufficient for 1.0 status:

"Scope Complete is not 1.0."

Life support, if implemented, will be optional:

"If we ever do life support it has to be a difficulty option that can be turned off."

Design completion is the criteria for development stopping, not sales:

"Coming at the wrong angle with this. KSP has a plan and an end we're working towards because it's a videogame. The cutoff when we get there is not a financial one, it's a design one."

Achievements not coming:

"We agree with Klei on achievements limiting sandbox experiences by becoming checklists the player needs to cross out before they have completed the game. I personally love achievements in a lot of games, but they don't fit KSP."

More merchandise coming:

"[When asked about new merchandise] We're working on it!"

On modders influencing game features:

"Sometimes modders beat us to features we want to implement, or create completely new ones that we realize we have to have. We're just happy they exist and help enhance our game."

Multiplayer has a dedicated dev:

"Multiplayer development is happening in parallel by a dev who is specifically on the project for it, so don't sweat it about the resources being taken from the main game.. Also try the mods, seriously, anyone I have talked to who didn't get Multiplayer got it immediately after a session with their friends."

On competitive or cooperative multiplayer for KSP:

"Multiplayer is in way too early of a state to discuss, but the general idea is to have the players decide if it'll be either of those. I'd expect Space Piracy."

Mu confirmed to be biological in nature, not a robot:

"He is an organism designed for making badass code."

Some features currently handled by mods to be made stock:

"I wish I could tell you more, but basically we are aware of a few mods who have beat us to implementing a version of planned features."

Local cuisine for dinner:

"I'm thinking beef tacos."

Maxmaps prefers Bill over Jeb (!):

"[When asked which kerbal he likes best] Bill. He knows what's up. Rayry of the randomly generated."

Somehow missed this, thanks Avera9eJoe:

More IVAs confirmed for scope completion:

"[When asked if scope completion meant more IVAs] It includes IVA's."

"New IVAs are incoming. They don't add a ton to gameplay and are a good bit of modelwork, so other things take precedence. But the game needs them anyways."

Also missed this one, thanks Majorjim:

Kerbal Engineer Redux-like functionality a possibility:

"I'm a big fan of engineer and we might need something similar ingame in the future. We're not big fans of the player getting big advantages at zero cost, though."

Edit: Looks like he's finished up.

Confirmed so far (Maxmaps quotes):

Thanks for wading through that disgusting layout for the rest of us plebs.

For regex, see Maxmaps' most recent comments here: http://www.reddit.com/user/Maxmaps

Again, thanks for wading through that disgusting layout for the rest of us plebs. I have no idea how anyone can possibly navigate that terrible layout, even when it's not in threaded form.

Hi all,

I have been reading through the AMA with Maxmaps here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2byga4/im_the_producer_of_kerbal_space_program_ama_about/#cja66gp

Here is a small list of some of his more interesting answers:

-an aerodynamic update is a "maybe"

-new spaceplane parts are in progress with pic soon.

-there will be a new building interface

-no N-body physics

-either clouds, retexturing Kerbals or cities will be made. (He wasn't clear)

-there may be Easter eggs left to find

-new IVAs are being made as we speak

-more planets are a "maybe"

-career mode is their #1 priority

-female Kerbals are coming

-they are making an educational version

-something like kerbal engineer is likely. But they don't like the fact that it's so easy to build a rocket with it, ie no maths.

-life support could be a future feature and would be part of a difficulty setting.

-they are working on making bases and stations more useful.

-more merchandise

That's all so far!!

MJ

-an aerodynamic update is a "maybe"

The actual quote:

"Aerodynamics needs a -lot- of thought before we do any work on it. Pen it as a maybe outside of some much needed polish."

Which basically means it'll get the resources treatment.

Also, this thread is kind of redundant -> http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/88541-Ask-Maxmaps-Anything-on-r-Games RIC is already covering most (if not all) of it.

-something like kerbal engineer is likely. But they don't like the fact that it's so easy to build a rocket with it, ie no maths.

They really should AT LEAST show the rocket's total weight

You can find it by going to the launchpad then looking at the map info, but that's pretty annoying

Needing to do the rocket equation maths on your own is one thing, and understandable, but adding up a large number of usually-non-integer masses just to find your total is a real pain

An aerodynamics update really needs to be a question of WHEN, rather than IF.

Attention all Squad, attention all Squad:

Nobody likes math except math people. And both of them don't care.

Agreed! the VAB should show some values for the craft.

Also agreed, maths is for the classroom.

I too had to trawl through that horridness too. And that's the thanks?:D

I'm doing my best to include all the actual gameplay answers and a few of the inane questions for comic relief. Haven't seen mention of discovery or more planetary detail other than what I've already quoted, though I haven't read all the questions, only Maxmaps' answers so far.

If you go through all of Maxmaps' answers and replace the word "maybe" with "we'll figure out some excuse not to do it" you'll probably have a really good idea of KSP's future development.

I am indescribably pleased by this, especially since it will not take one whit away from bugfixing (artists ain't gonna be fixing bugs).

I'm glad to be back from vacation, though an hour too late for the show. Time to get caught up.

Life support, if implemented, will be optional:

"If we ever do life support it has to be a difficulty option that can be turned off."

Yes! This is exactly what I wanted to hear.

Same here! Though does anyone know about which mk pods are to be updated? The Mk2 lander can's innards need a lot of love too.

And as to features implemented by modders that are planned, I'm guessing Debrefund is one of them.

EDIT: Maxmaps answered my question, and IVAs are included in what Hugo is working on in the Mk line. YES!
