how do you keep track of the current version of all your mods?

My way:

1. Remove all that stuff you copied in your game folder, make a clean install to be sure there are no modded files left.

2. Install JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler and use it from now on.

Mod version can (and compatible game version) can be just written in mod's folder name, it'll be shown in JGME window. The only headache is to update all those mods when new version of KSP is release, but in other respects it's quite reliable.

For newer versions I just check forum sometimes. If mod is working fine, there is no reason to check for updates every day. If there is some major bug - you'll be forced to check for new version anyway :)
