The Moon is unhelpful, it's light will drown out the fainter meteors. City lights are also unhelpful for the same reason. I live in an urban area and when I've tried watching meteor showers I typically see a mere handful in an hour.

The perseids aren't only tonight, but have a duration of a few weeks. Today the weather is bad, but last wednesday I saw many meteors, like 5 per hour.

Where I live, that's about 1 meteor per 50 mosquitoes.

The peak is actually tonight IIRC, or tomorrow morning. This shower is fine for a week or so around the peak but generally best at the peak by a hefty margin.

You really want to watch after midnight, and preferably after 1am or even after 2.

Any light pollution will drown out the smaller meteors, meaning the supermoon will hurt but you can make things better by going out to dark area and having something big (I have a cliff nearby I like to use) to block it.

It's going to be cloudy and rainy here for the next 3 days so no meteors for me. :(

It's very annoying media hype around something that's utterly stupid and not awesome at all. The Moon is not noticeably larger on the sky, and its glow washes away almost all Perseids. This are the worst possible night conditions for watching meteors, except when it's cloudy, of course.

Buy yeah, if you're a douche with an expensive smartphone, you can make stupid photos of white blobs and "selfies" and annoy the hell out of everyone by cramming their news feeds with "supermoon".

I saw some pics of the supermoon on Google Images. I realized very quickly that they were fake. The moon is big, but not that big.

Went to walk the dog tonight and saw ISS and 3 meteors, also the sky was very beautiful divided into north half with no clouds in the north and like 3/10 scattered clouds south that were backlit by the moon. Wish i had a decent camera to capture it.

If it was not for the dog i would have stayed home behind my computer and would see nothing.

Not all of them where necessarily "fake", but some of them are likely to have been taken in such a way to exaggerate the size. If the moons on the horizon, and you only image a small part of the sky, and have things in front of the Moon, the moon's going to look bigger than it would to the naked eye. Otherwise, you just get this.

The Moon is tricky to photograph.

Also, I'm too far south to see this shower apparently.

Considering the ridiculous amount of cloudy nights I've had these past few weeks, I was lucky to see just two bright Perseid meteors the other night. At least I got something this year; last year it was clouds galore all through the Perseids. Damn British weather :(
