Being my usual nerdy self, I have been counting down the days until September 9th (Destiny's release date). I am super hyped and I just wanted to see if anyone else was buying it.

A shooter with co-op RPG/MMORPG elements. A bit like borderlands, except with MMO-style shared servers, and without the humour. Well, without deliberate humour anyway...

To me, from what i've seen, it looks kinda like what Mass Effect would be like, without the Reapers, and of course, some texture/ model changes, but same base idea.

(I.E: Just fighting the Geth)

What is it?

"

" is Bungie's next franchise and the first since becoming independent (again) by leaving Microsoft (with relatively few strings). The last game Bungie produced and released as an independent studio, prior to Microsoft's acquisition of Bungie and
, was
. Following an assumed successful attainment of certain financial/ sales volume goals, a small team at Bungie is expected to pursue another project, which is designated as Marathon (which leads some to believe that Bungie's former trilogy by that name will be revisited or expanded on). Come on; check out the above links: chock full of reading and watching and playing material. :)

Edit: to answer the OP, no, I will not be buying Destiny shortly after launch. I'm not much of a gamer anymore due to time constraints and the fact that I don't use consoles. However, when games come to my platform of choice and I want those games (such as KSP), I eventually purchase them.

It must be a very special game for me to buy it immediately after or before release. Destiny falls not into this category for me.

Yes, I played the Beta and I really enjoyed it. I have played every Bungie game since Myth the Fallen Lords and haven't been let down yet. Its Science Fiction with a bit of fantasy mixed in. Its got good shooting controls. I like the co-op aspects.

Well, worldwide release is in ten minutes either way. Any bets on whether it'll take down PSN?

I watched a YouTube review of Destiny a few days ago. It looked kinda cool, and very pretty.

Then the reviewer mentioned it was "online only", and I lost all interest and didn't even finish the video.

I do need a reason to buy a new console. It I think that reason is going to be the Master Chief Collection. Not Destiny.

Your reason for buying a new console is a collection of slightly spruced-up existing games?

Yea. Halo 2 multiplayer was the best time I've ever had playing videogames. Can't wait to relive it with my friends again.

If it comes to PC I might consider it. If it takes a monthly subscription fee then the answer will be a definite NO!
