Rope, Cable or Chain

Recommended Posts

Often I wanted to build a winch to spool up cable, rope or chain, if one of these were added many things could be designed with this object. It would need to have good length, connectable ends, flexibility and strength. Are there any mods out there with something similar? If not what do you think about this idea?

KAS fits the bill pretty well, the only exception being the rope doesn't physically interact with anything. The connector on the end does, but the rope is always a straight line and doesn't collide.

This is because making the cable/rope bend and interact with other objects requires procedually-generated segments of individual colliders, which AFAIK is computationally expensive.

Kerbal is a lot of fun as it is and needs nothing else added this is only an idea if KSP was looking to further the designing fun of the program
