MYKkUTk.png

This is a simple add-on that adds high-quality flags of the member countries of the European Space Agency (ESA). All flags are derived from Public Domain vector files available on Wikipedia. I resized and exported the SVG file in Inkscape and applied the "minimalistic" flag texture from Squad (GameData\Squad\Flags\minimalistic.png). I hope you enjoy them, especially since many of the forum members here are from ESA member countries.

Flags included

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • The Netherlands
  • United Kingdom

Download from Dropbox

Licence: same as Squad's GameData assets since the "minimalistic.png" flag texture was applied. This pack may be redistributed if you wish under the same licence.

The flags are all originally Public Domain from Wikipedia, but they still recommend attribution for them.

Changelog:

v1.3 - Added flags of new ESA members Estonia and Hungary and the flag of the EU for its ESA contributions

v1.2 - Forgot to add GameData, now added. Extract the GameData folder to the KSP install; this add-on's folder is called "FlagsESA"; Redid the flags of Canada, Greece, and Spain; rescaled in Inkscape to have better proportions

v1.1 - Removed England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland as they are countries within the United Kingdom and not actual ESA countries themselves

v1 - Initial Release

To install: extract and merge the GameData folder in the ZIP file to your KSP directory.

To use: select the flag in-game in KSP. You can do this when creating a new save, by clicking the flag near the Astronaut Complex in-game, by picking the flag for an individual mission in the VAB or SPH, or by clicking on the Launch Pad from the menu and selecting it there.

All flags are originally from Wikipedia in the SVG format. I simply resized them and applied the SQUAD's stock flag texture, "minimalistic."

Flag texture sourced from GameData\Squad\Flags\minimalistic.png

How is Canada in the European space agency?? Aren't they on the wrong side of the ocean?

Check out the map from the ESA

http://www.esa.int/spaceinimages/Images/2013/02/ESA_Member_States_and_Cooperating_States

Canada is an Associate Member to ESA and was previously a "Cooperating State" since 1979 (details here). On a totally unrelated note, ESA does not entertain direct relations with non-independent countries.

If you are referring to Scotland, England, Wales's flag and Saint David's flag, and Northern Ireland -- I included those as extras for the Britons, so they can be more specific as to what country they're from.

EDIT: updated to v1.1, Removed the countries of the UK and the flag of Saint David as they are not direct ESA members.

For information : The swiss flag should be a square. It's not a long rectangle flag like the other.

From wikipedia : " It is one of only two square sovereign-state flags, the other being the flag of Vatican City."

Ja vi elsker dette landet

som det stiger frem

Furet værbitt over vannet

i de tuuuusen hjem

Oh, sorry got gripped by overwhelming patriotism and just had to sing a bit of the Norwegian national anthem... :D

Now the big question is, how can I swap out the 'stock' flag I chose for my current career with the Norwegian flag?

edit: Aaah - it's right there in the start of the savefile... Finally Norway gets a manned space-program :)

Not a 100% true... While the flag is usually square, it doesn't have to be square, as the flag is only defined as a white cross on a red background. Besides, I don't think square flags are possible in KSP, as transparency turns white.

Nice work. But shouldn't there be an ESA flag as well? (Like the stock NASA flag.) Maybe they don't really have an official flag, but they at least have a logo that can be made into a flag. (I'm sure they wont mind it being used in this context.)

I have an ESA flag made. :) I don't know if I'll add it to the download on Kerbal Stuff because I'm scared of copyright (:P) but I can give an Imgur link. Also, glad everyone seems to like these flags. I know a lot of you are from Europe so it must be cool to use your country's flag(s).

It seems you have forgotten Hungary and Estonia. Please fix this before any overly patriotic Estonians notice this (lots of them around the Internet), otherwise I can't bear the shame of living here for some time again. And please don't forget Hungary.

Thanks in advance.
