PETAMETA-1: the secrets of deep space.

So I was looking at the Duna SSTV transmission when I came across this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/60247-Duna-SSTV-transmission. The third post by Spica states that the Duna SSTV transmission is also played 10000 Petameters from Kerbol. Although it says later in the post that HOLO heard the signal but could not replicate the results, I still wanted to test this for myself. I also have a hunch that it is only played once even with quick saves and recreations.

So I launched PETAMETA 1, an all stock and no mod (Including MJ) interstellar spacecraft to test my hunch. :)

I'll upload the photos soon.

It is

1 x 10

+19 Meters I do not think that is 1000 lightyears

It is. 1,057 human light years, or 3,624 kerbal light years (2556.5 hour year if the Wiki is still right). A petameter is a trillion kilometers, over 88 million times as far from Kerbol (sun) as Eeloo at its apoapsis.

Let it be known here and now that using HyperEdit I have been out that far, and much farther, from Kerbol and not heard a peep. If you do catch the signal, please do tell everyone, but otherwise I'm inclined to think that it's a myth.

Yes, and please, for the love of all that is good, please have some video+audio recording software ready at a moments notice, for some proof, if you can.

Sadly don't bother...

The kraken payed a visit...

And that was that.

Now I just want to work on my shuttles...

I made my first successful one last night.

Yeah, once you're way out there, I suggest to NOT switch away or to the craft, cause doing that WILL summon the "Kraken" eventually. The farther out you go, the more likely you are to encounter a crash or black screen.

So I decided to check back on the forums for the first time in about half a year, if not more, and I just have to say I'm super surprised you found this. How'd you end up at this post?

Also, I cannot believe it's been 4 years. To think this is 1/4 of my life ago is absurd.

Allright, back to the SSTV stuff

I saw this thread and thought it would be nice to try to find that SSTV signal.

And I succeeded. Eight years after.

I have recorded it -- but you can't really hear anything, only sporadic beep-bloops, due to the KSP music that played then.
