When Female Kerbals are added, be sure to make at least one an orange-suit.

I don't think that we should add "Female" Kerbals. This is just appealing to the audience that is claiming that games are sexist because they don't include females. I personally believe that people should get off their high horse, and realize that there are more important matters than a gender. Such as aerodyamics, re-entry, EVA in IVA, and releasing the game. I hope that this is the LAST thing the Devs add before finishing the game, because of it's rank on needs.

First off, Female kerbals are NOT a priority, and in this case it is IMPORTANT to have female characters, because it will give young women and girls who play the game the same spacey-wacey spirit of Kerbalkind! This comes first-hand from a variety of people whom I've had play the game for a little social experiment. Furthermore, female Kerbals wouldn't take as long at all to implement from a coding standpoint, and the ART team would be the group workin on the Kerbals, something which you don't really seem to care much for. Finally, It's not just feminists who want female Kerbals, it's also not-particularly-feminist women and men alike. My personal reason is because most of my IRL friends are female.

To be honest though, after some thinking, I don't think there should be another orange suit at all. I WOULD like this:

Default Cockpit Pilots. Each cockpit would have a default pilot or group of pilots. These would appear (if available) by default in a cockpit/capsule/can when it is placed as the root part.

Mk1-2 Command Pod: Bill Kerman, Jebediah Kerman, Bob Kerman.

Mk1 Command Pod: Jebediah Kerman.

Mk1 Lander Can: Salentina Kerman.

Mk2 Lander Can: Salentina Kerman, Marie Kerman.

Cupola: Bob Kerman.

Mk1 Cockpit: Jebediah Kerman.

Mk1 Inline Cockpit: Bill Kerman.

Mk2 Cockpit: Salentina Kerman, Sara Kerman.

Mk2 Inline Cockpit: Marie Kerman, Bob Kerman.

Mk3 (Shuttle) Cockpit (Assuming 4 crew cockpit): Sara Kerman, Salentina Kerman, Marie Kerman, Bob Kerman.

(Hypothetical 4-crew pod): Bill Kerman, Jebediah Kerman, Bob Kerman, Salentina Kerman.

And just to ensure everyone has fun (even the bad mean sexists/misogynists AND the hardcore feminists) there should be an option in game settings which turns off females OR males entirely, and can scale the percentage of new astronauts that are female.

A few days ago I was going to suggest more-or-less this exact thing, specifically adding a --boysclub executable flag, but Gregox's suggestion is probably the better way of doing it.

I feel some thread redundancy here.

Also, i don't mind if someday some of us marry some girl. Well... human girl i gess.

Not redundancy. It's a separate issue. It also adresses female Kerbals, I suppose, but Sara wouldn't be a default Kerbal.

So back to the original question of Orange suits, and the idea of adding the females as Blue. . .

I get why the Orange suits exist, and while it's a fun throwback it has no value as far as gameplay is concerned - it's actually a bit confusing, why are those three orange? Most players will never know or care. Even before there were different types of Kerbal (Pilot, Engineer, Scientist) I thought there should be, and that suit color would designate the kerbals type. Orange for pilot, Blue for science, White for engineer. I say get rid of the old Orange suit club - maybe replace it with a colorful patch on their arm or something.

I'm for this as too me they will always be genderless sentient plants.

Who cares if some new players don't get the Orange suits? Why should we abandon the old trio for that?

I personally think that all Kerbals, regardless of gender, experience or specialization, should wear orange suits.

The first three's suits are most likely inspired by the Launch Entry Suit (LES) / Advanced Crew Escape Suit (ACES) worn by Space Shuttle astronauts - the International Orange color permits high visibility in the event of pad evacuation / bailout / search & rescue. Other colors* don't work as well.

If we must differentiate Kerbals by specialisation, thin colored stripes on the predominantly-orange suits would suffice (red for pilot, yellow for engineer, blue for scientists) .

*There have been blue pressure suits in real life, which were apparently reserved for the (cancelled) USAF MOL project, as well an early prototype of the Constellation Space Suit, but I suspect that orange will still be the de facto standard for operational use.

Maybe upon starting a new game, you start with any combination of the starting three male Kerbals (Jeb, Bob, and Bill) and three female Kerbals (Val, plus two others), as long as there is one Pilot, Engineer, and Scientist.

For example, if Val ends up being a Pilot, you could start off with Val, Bill, and Bob. Or the female Engineer, Jeb, and Bob. Or Val, the female Scientist, and Bill.

That would be cool.

Another way to do this would be for Orange suit Kerbals to be unlocked by upgrading buildings. That way you could start with Jeb, get Val when you upgraded the VAB, Bill when you upgrade R+D, etc. That way you could have six orange suits and still restrict opening roster numbers.

Also a nice move would be female head staff for the Tracking Station and Astronaut Complex. My vote would be Sally and Peggy respectively :)

Do the white suits not actually respawn in non-permadeath, because I am pretty sure that is just a myth that the white suits don't respawn. So I don't see whatt the point is unless you are going to use it to attract attention to her. Though I guess I would be fine with it.

They respawn now if you have it set as such in your options

I don't like the idea of kerbals of any gender, I just don't. kerbals should be vaguely humanoid androgynous figures

I feel the same way... if they come in 1.0 i will be the first modding them out :) its for geeks wanna girls at least in their game but entirely ruins their "being kerbal" personality
