Planning to start a collection of small part pack mods [Dev build available (V0.1)]

Recommended Posts

dang it now I'm torn on one hand I'm like "horray low tech plane parts :D" but on the other I'm like "dang it yet another funny part form factor as if I already didn't turn down 1.85 meter parts, retro future, and all of B9 to save ram for things other than fuel tanks :/" still the landing gear alone would do wonders and I can just delete the parts I don't plan to use to save ram :)

It looks like you are already pretty far along but have you considered possibly doing a pulsejet as an early tech jet engine? they are about as old if not older than turbo jets some varieties such as the valveless designs can function as their own air intakes. They also have a "distinct" engine noise ;)

The plane parts and the CST-1000 all look great! I would agree that the Mk1-2 is pretty boring right now.

Continuing work on the KTS-86 (CST-100)

Beginning to add the IVA and pod to the game. Not a super impressive IVA, but I think it will do. Need to add props and make some adjustments.

I'd also like to hear how far people would like me to go with this particular craft. Is just the pod enough or do people prefer I make a service module and such too. Let me know your thoughts.

Personally I like to build my own SM's most of the time. Unless a craft has a really unique and special one, I don't think a specific part is required.

I'm not sure how necessary a service module would be 2.5 meters gives you plenty of room to work with.

Is it just me or do the white tiles on the out side of the pod seem kinda out of place?

They look a little extreme in the ingame screenshot, the picture from the 3D software looked better imo.

so, this is essentially a "Kerbalized" version of the Gemini capsule?

So I think I might go back to the drawing board with this capsule. After playing around with it a bit, it doesn't really fix the issues I have with the mk1-2, such as poor forward visibility. I can post a link to DL the current version of people want to muck around with it for some reason.

@sampa: it's more of a place for me to show and discuss multiple small projects rather than creating a separate thread for each. But yes the first I posted and furthest along development wise is a kerbalized gemini.

I'd love to play around with it, even in its current state!

I totally understand man, just let me know if I'm pressuring you too much or anything like that!

Thanks for the download, I'll let you know how it works!

Some thoughts:

1. A great little ship! I love it.

2. No bugs with .90!

3. Could be a tad bit heavier than the Mk1-2, especially considering it has four people.

4. The white tiling on the pod is a bit intense, although only when viewed up close. A smoother look like on the HGR Soyuz might be better.

5. The asymmetrical windows are neat! Personally I like it, although adding a second large window (or having the two pilots have two medium sized windows) might help with the lack of forward visibility. Personally though I think it gives this pod a unique nature.

6. Obviously the IVA is very much wip, but I think the two guys on the bottom deserve a little panel or computer. Maybe it could be placed in between them and they could share.

Overall I think this is a great pod. Thank you for making it! I like it as it is, and I am excited to see what modifications you come up with.

Any chance you could put up a download for those pretty early tech plane parts? :)

Nice! I'm glad people still like it despite the state it's in. I like the asymmetric nature of the CST-100 and would like to come back to this pod a some point. But, since I really wanted something that would have view ports that would give an appropriate angle when docking I've had to design something else.

@Tygoo7: I can post them up. They don't have FAR support yet and I'm not sure if I should continue with them if people would prefer a standard cylindrical design. Let me check a few things out with the cfg files and I'll post up what I have.

maybe you could use the current design with a different IVA as a pod for horizontal landers, like this one:http://www.nss.org/settlement/moon/images/lunox07.jpg

I know for sure that I really like the way those plane parts are. they're very distinctive.

Here's a build for the plane parts. Still no gear or Far support as of yet. I'd highly recommend editing the stock landing gear to be available from the start. "Girder skits" don't work too well on the bumpy tier one runway, turns out. I have a gear bay in the works but it's not implemented yet.

RE: the capsules. I'll mostly likely continue to develop both. I've always wanted to make a "Kerpollo" CSM pack and the newer one will likely be a part of that, whereas the KTS will just be a stand alone pod.

Thanks for all your support everyone, and for your patience while I jump around from project to project, it keeps things fresh for me and helps keep me from getting burned out.

by the way, could I get a beta for that apollo capsule?

Sorry, it's still a bit too early in development and there's already a lot of things in alpha floating around this thread at the moment.

I was doing some work on the Corvus over Christmas and I wanted to ask the community how much they care about the service module and engine. Would you rather see just a service module that works more like a cargo bay? (Mount stuff inside like the 6s mod) i've reworked the command pod a bit, it now has a heatshield and new texture. I'm going to be redoing the nose to match as well but I want to know how people feel about the other parts. I'm planning to add a tiny linear RCS port instead of the integrated ports I have now. That should allow for more balanced RCS systems.

Hey man, I like the idea of a service module that works like a cargo bay. I think that's a good middle point between having a completely premade SM and letting the player make their own SM from stock parts.

That's what I was thinking, and even may be what I end up doing with the service modules in HGR when I get around to remaking them. If I do it for this one I suppose it could be a good testbed for future SMs I make. When I'm home again I'll post up pics of the refurbished Corvus command pod to get some feedback.

A good testbed indeed! I look forward to seeing your work.
