[WIP] The Cities of Kerbin (Hex Blocks)

Well, it hasn't been tested, and I will change it if I feel it isn't satisfactory.

Very sick this weekend so progress has been slowed. New pictures showing me sort out my highway models, and textures were added. A few of AlphaAsh's Kerbin Side buildings being used. Hmmm... I need an air terminal. You can now see the sheer size of the aerospace port.

Been busy on two other mods and updating the carrier for Kerbin Side Oceania. I haven't abandoned this mod. There is a lot I'm making and actually drawing on paper what I plan to build. I'm hoping it will stun all those who see the completed infrastructure. Kerbin Side Oceania Extras tie into Jool City's development. Eve Ville, Moho, and Duna will follow once Jool City is finished and plots are ready for those who want to add to the project.

Testing will show if it works in game, it's just that this device is a little ridiculous if this is a regular airport.

As a rule, roads tend to be a max of about 1 in 6. (grassy slopes 1 in 4, ramps about 14, )

To Eskandare and any other people interested by the idea: I thought it would be also good for motivated builders to only create layout of various style (see below) and let them empty and also free to use elsewhere. So people can just add a building to an empty place and upload there stuff to some common repository (github could be use as helper for that), and a "build" could be even created more or less automatically every x days/every accepted pull request.

Layout style: from village (random spots of random shapes with a lot's of space between) to megalopolis (New York style: a grid of street with various sized rectangular spots to fill).

For the sake of KSP and memory, spot shapes should be only rectangles.

This could lead to the exact same behaviour on how real cities grows by themselves, without too much restrictive central soviet-style bureaucracy :).

Possible handy guideline/list: a city must have a minimum of

A town hall or other central governing structure

4 residences (may be identical)

An economic structure eg a market or a factory

A sign somewhere stating the city name (can be on one of the other buildings)

They don't have to be realistic sizes or anything, I'd love it if kerbin was dotted with dozens of little town dioramas like this, and 3 unique buildings is a nice low bar to entry.

Currently I have an infrastructure, a large port. A ridiculously large airport. I'm currently trying to find an optimum location to "break ground." Although yesterday, while playing KSP I saw a fantastic location for a new base for Kerbin Side. Also I'm playing with the idea of building a space elevator.

Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself, my father always said. In POV-ray there are some scripts to procedurally generate cities.

I'm not saying that the building should be generated procedurally in game, that would probably require too much calculation power. But why not divide the cities in city blocks, have people deliver content on a per-block basis like Kerbin City, and have the rest filled in procedurally? It gives you large cities right from the get go, and better quality content as people fill it in, which is more attractive to do as you're not creating a building in an empty block, but rather improving the existing city.

Just throwing this in the air here. By all means shoot it down if it's stupid, I won't be insulted.

Yeah, I've been working on my own stuff too, I just find it helpful for someone to tell me what to do, it should hopefully stop me drifting off and doing other stuff and make a coherent whole.

Holidays are almost over and I'll be able to get back to this project.

New things are coming:

- Two new bases for Kerbin Side, look out for them in the Kerbin Side thread. (Link in my signature)

- Making Moho City including a Kerbalized version of red square (going to be called red hexagon) and a Kerbal version of St. Basil the Blessed (called Great Kerman the Blast) and more lots for building buildings.

- Jool City getting a model rework and be open for release. (The ramp wasn't working out. I'll be removing it and revisiting it at a later date.)

As for JIA airport - cut the top one third of a ramp off. Kerbals are crazy, but not that crazy. Plus would be nearly darn impossible to traverse it.

I'll be sure to re build the ramp with a more shallow curve and ramp end.

Any releases ready for testing?

I'm doing a rework on a few things. Couple of new tests are found in the two new bases for Kerbin Side. Please note even though it appears I live on the forums I do, in fact, have a personal life and a fairly demanding job. I am still working on this project. I should have something soon for 1.0.

No it's not dead, thank you for asking. I have been very busy in RL and had paused until 1.0 was released. I'm back to working on this mod and updating my other mods.
