The colours are expected, as the IVA isn't finished, so there aren't any textures. Are you using RPM for IVA? Nothing really works without it.

This. You need RPM to get anything out of the IVA. The colors are like that to help me differentiate different surfaces when working in unity. You don't want me to texture this thing, trust me.

As far as the engines go, Illumination should be pretty easy, just an emissive effect in unity. The engines are supposed to have two modes, one for chemical rockets, and another being the plasma jets. The one til027 showed would be the plasma jets. A VASIMR looks like this:

which still has an exhaust plume, however subtle it may be. I'm going to figure out how to make effects, and then we'll have some appropriate engine exhaust. Until then, just use your imagination!

I imagine you're correct and the exhaust would just be invisible in any sort of light.

Not sure if this has already been established, but the reason an S5 is used to launch from Earth is because both Rangers are being launched at once (and to conserve fuel on the Rangers for planetary landing/etc). I'm assuming there is some sort of fairing that covers the open area between them while on the booster since it's clear that the windows are uncovered during launch, but they are launched with their heat shield sides facing each other. It's not explained at all in the movie, but I'm thinking how this works is that there is an extending non-crew tunnel docking port / magnet plate of some kind between the rear landing gear of each that tie them together for launch and initial docking to Endurance, seen in these two pictures:

^ the connectors extended during the initial docking scene.

When the connectors are fully extended, both the Rangers' docking ports would line up with their respective ports on Endurance. When both are docked, the connectors are retracted. These connectors probably have some relays between them so when both Rangers are in launch configuration they are essentially controlled as a single spacecraft.

Eanikran, we all know the s5 part. I don't think the docking thing is necessary because docking in ksp is already pretty easy

That docking thing would be really cool, but I think it's a bit too complex and situational to be useful. Although, that is probably where the docking port is on the bottom.

I think the ranger is a bit too big...

Did you get the second one I posted? 0.0.2? I scaled the ranger down to 80% of the original, and fixed a few other things.

Also, making progress:

But now there are some other weird glitchy things I need to fix.

here is my replica of the ranger with the s5

kw rocketry and a bit of FASA

That's pretty damn cool.

If we were to use tweakscale, or even redistribute parts and rescale them, we could make a rocket that is much larger in diameter, so that we could fit both in the configuration in the movie. The fairing piece that goes on top shouldn't be too hard to make honestly. Just make it with two nodes parallel to the ranger ports, so you can put two docking ports or decouplers on the fairing, and then attach the rangers. That would require a 5m stack for the top stage, meaning 6.25+ for the main and second stage. Might be a bit much, but it's an option.

The docking ports would make the ranger and lander dangle everywhere on the endurance. That's a way to .... up your immersion. :(

Annnnddd, undocking any lander or ranger while it's dangling will cause everything to explode including the endurance.

the best option now is to use the struts from KAS

Will the landing gear and updated engines come out next update?
