Dont you mean higher i.e. they dont start working until initial airspeed is higher than it is now since now they work at 0 m/s?

It's not strictly defined what they simulate. You can easily look at the original ram intake as being like Concorde's variable-geometry intakes. You can look at the shock cone intake as being like the SR-71's. In both cases, they operate from 0 to supersonic.

Edit: I'm fairly strongly against this, it seems like a needless complication which will only serve to confuse people. I don't think it's necessary to perfectly simulate specific engine types when hybrid high-supersonic engines (e.g. SR-71) are over 50 years old now.

This, exactly. It's not which craft. It may just be me, but I would rather prefer a top speed for the engines (preferably roughly mach 3 or a little bit more, as it would be somewhat realistic). I do think that jet engines are a little overpowered but the suggested change seems to me like approaching the problem from the wrong site. But maybe I'm requesting too much realism here
