New Mk3 Parts Partially Unveiled

Am I the only one who thinks larger landing gear is more important than MK3 cargo bays? The current landing gear is already starting to look small on some of my MK2 space planes. So I can only imagine this problem getting much worse in .90.

You are not alone! Even with mods, I feel there is a lack of wheeled landing gears. Or wheels in general. I do feel, however, that a better aerodynamic model is more important than any of these things. I want something better than stock but not as advanced as FAR.

with all these high-quality new parts, the "old" parts really need an art overhaul

Yup. I unfortunately have to agree. Unfortunately because PorkJet hasn't been cloned yet. And overhauling the old parts seems like a lot of work. Also the old wings need to go. Nobody is using them anymore, it seems.

Except the winglets for large rocket control

I've seen a few people use the old Swept Wings, but I think Squad were already planning on retiring them. Of course the small winglets are expected to stay, they're still good for many tasks (the delta-deluxe being excellent for tails on small aircraft).

I expect that at some point we'll see an official revamp of the rocket parts, they're a bit of a mismash at the moment. I think there still ought to be some distinctiveness between parts from different manufacturers though.

Can someone explain what is going on in this design? Doesn't look like it could possibly be flight-stable, and no idea how it would take-off from the runway. Yet, given how the Mk3 spaceplane is attached to the orange tank, this isn't an orbital refueling situation. /confused

It's going to discard that tank when it's empty. I bet it follows a more rocket-like ascent profile and uses its wings for landing.

Yep, seems like a crafty shuttle design, not an SSTO Spaceplane. Probably a vertical launch similar to the NASA STS, the plane itself doesn't look like it would have enough fuel capacity on it's own to reach orbit. The sepatrons on the tank would seem to confirm that as well. Almost an inverted version of the Dream Chaser launcher.

Would it be also possible to add mk2 and mk3 decouplers? It's missing in both B9 and stock mk2 and I need them really badly for safety ejection systems. Or if there is a mod for it would be enough I guess but stock is always better.

I want to give a +1 to this. I've been hoping for mk2 and mk3 decouplers since the mk2 parts came out. There is no way to make a decent safety eject system without them right now (at least not while keeping the general look of mk2 or mk3 parts).

It probably was launched vertically....

*Mind blown* :o

It's a nose mounted droptank and spaceplane combination, launched vertically from the pad :)

Thanks for the replies. Yes, only makes sense in a vertical rocket take-off, with shuttle return landing.

Uhm, is that a new 2.5m-1.25m adapter on the fuel tank there?

It likely does that to keep its centre of lift behind the centre of mass the whole way up.

That design is actually quite ingenious, It ensures you don't have to discard an expensive engine. With all those extra sepratrons and aerodynamic parts though I have to wonder if they still come out ahead on funds.

EDIT: come to think of it it also means they don't have the expense or weight of a second stage engine either.

It seems to be a recreation of the MAKS shuttle:
