Slowest download ever... and from longest away :) Patience is the name of the game. I, for one, have one question burning my mind - contact binary or just a very misshapen lump of rock?

Back in the day, we had 300 baud modems, so this is looking not so bad to me.

So were the phone lines back when we used to dial into BBSes.

If it already have an ADC from the transmitter and a DAC on the receiver then it's digital.

Analog transmission has response curve, not bitrate. (unless we call the highest frequency it can reliably transmit as the 'bitrate'.)

Fortunately, pedantry has no known maximum bitrate.

How about them photos, guys? I’ve been trying not to think about waiting for them all day. And this is from someone who purposely avoided looking at the night sky for all of 1986, because I thought Halley’s Comet was overhyped.

Considering he was asking what bitrate it was capable of, I can't see interpreting it any other way.

It was. I purposefully looked at it several times and it never looked better than a slightly bright star. :/

Not quite - 32K modems were still operating in the audio frequency response of telephones (3 kHz). It's about how clever you can be with the encoding - FSK, QAM, then Trellis.

56K modems however were only possible after the whole phone network were converted into digital signals. Today's telephone are all digital systems employing digital signals.

Gosh, i have an appointment. So tempting ...

Images will come in very slowly, so we likely don't get too many today. Also, the hi-res images are not due til February, anyway.
