(Question) Mechjeb/Engineer Redux Propperly Calculating Delta V?

Recommended Posts

So both MechJeb and Engineer Redux count the following as zero mass:

  • RCS thruster blocks
  • cubic struts
  • octagonal struts
  • small solar panels
  • all ladders
  • both lights
  • the small gear bay
  • two of the data transmitters

I get the feeling I'm missing something. Do the stats of these items lie about their real mass?

Those are "physicless" parts, so they show a weight in their description but have no weight when launched. There's also a battery IIRC that's physicsless as well.

Okay, thanks! So does their weight in the VAB/SPH mean anything pragmatically speaking?

Testing this notion.

Just ran through the test. Physics-less parts report their mass as part of the vehicle, but they do indeed have zero mass on launch. (Of course, they all have very little mass to begin with, but...)

If you want them to have mass (and aerodynamic effects), you can edit out the physicsless line in the cfg file for that particular part.
