Does that mean my '68 ford falcon is new just because it wasn't mine until now? I bought it not that long ago, maybe I can sell it for way more money now that I know this.

Well to be more pedantic it's more akin to getting a new car fresh off of the production line which is the same design as it was in 1968.

Lousy analogy. I doubt that these digital parts have been worn through use, or seen technology of newer models make them obsolete.

The way things are happening is more akin to someone making the car back in 68, putting it on ads, showing it to everyone, hiding it for years and then selling it again as new even when the car is like 60 years old. In our case, it's digital stuff which doesn't suffer quality loss because of time, but it still isn't new.

We went from "new because nobody touched them yet" to "new because they can't get degraded by time". Your first post actually sounded like someone commenting "it's not a repost because I haven't seen it yet" on a well known meme.

YES! We don't need "MOAR BOOSTERS" (although I hope to see smaller spacecraft), but instead "MOAR SCANNERS," anyway, I am very glad that the game is almost 4 years old and is already in Beta. Thank you SQUAD for making this amazing game that I try to play each day.

It's clearly inverted Aqua.

In any case I don't see the difference between the parts being fresh off the render or from 5 years ago. All that matters is the quality. Also I would argue that a 3d model a part does not make.

One way to look at this "analogy" is to think of it like the parts under the hood. The engine in the 68 Falcon (I'm guessing a 302, not real up on car engines) may have been put in the 68 Falcon, but it was used by Ford up until 2000. Just because the engine DESIGN wasn't new, it would not have made a 2000 model car any less new when buying one than when buying one with one of the first 302 engines 40 yeas prior.

If that makes sense. Lol.

I think It would be awesome to have to land in the red area, then "Rover around" with a sensor that "pings" to try to find a drilling spot that is shallow enough (make them spaced out by about 1/2 kilometer) to actually reach the resource. It would give Rovers more use!

Yes. This would almost be what I wanted from science. Ooo, maybe the framework for this system could be used by modders to create a track down the signs of life/water mod. For some interesting science activity.

(I'd rather the game didn't have all its close up exploration mining related.)

Will also provide some point to all the "build an outpost on the surface of X" contracts :)

Yes, I'm hoping this will be balanced to encourage setting up refueling establishments. I am still hoping there will be some mechanism that will let you do research from bases and stations to boost reputation and science, but I'm yet to be pleasantly surprised.

This picture makes me miss the overbright brightness. Is there a mod for increasing the intensity of the sunlight? I think overbrightness makes sense in a space game where there's such a huge difference between light and dark. When they implemented it, it did look a bit better, but at the same time it got just a bit less magnificent.

I don't know, maybe it's just nostalgia. But I still want to see a mod for it.

Basically, All the pictures I could find related to the old resource system that don't very obviously allude to a feature not in the new one. (Although, I'm not sure about those last two)

Not sure if this is exactly what you need but one of my first mods on every new install is Ambient Light Adjustment. I keep it up a little all the time, and crank it up as necessary when it gets dark. This is nice for me, but FANTASTIC for my viewers.

I was not around back then when resources were still on the menu.

Glad they are coming back though.

Nah, I have PlanetShine which can do that anyway. I want the sun to shine brighter.

Can we have a actual mine/ oil drill? :P

the abandoned stock drill, karbonite, kethane drill look like a drill that use in renovation

Those two mod's drill can extract something as soon as they touch the ground, I think it even faster than taking blood sample from our arms.

Those valuable substances should located in deep under the surface, the drill should take same time to drill deep enough to extract those substances.

Also the drill should "dock" to surface before it start to work, those two mod's drill can drill the surface on a moving rover, it is crazy....
