  2. Currently the main ship uses a positron reactor and a thermal generator. I haven't looked at MHD generators ever, but looking at the stats those work three times as well, so I will probably switch those on the mothership and maybe one other ship. The issue is the amount of hydrogen required. The ship in question is designed for extremely long term use without refueling. In practice, I really only need the power a QSR gives while warping near large planets (or stars, I guess) so I wonder if I could get away with just not running it unless I'm refueling positrons or maneuvering... Or I could redesign the whole thing to be able to ISRU Hydrogen, but the idea of landing an 800 ton spaceship on a small world is not an attractive one. Well, I accidentally overwrote my mothership so it's getting redesigned anyways.

  6. The alternate would be to have a separate ship with the QSR to generate positrons. It does generate them quite fast, but it only works when in orbit - so you can't use it in a lander unless you shut it down first. On the plus side, QSR on a ship with a positron reactor and MHD (I think) generator feeds itself. Only need hydrogen

  8. Maybe, but I don't see why you'd board a transfer vehicle when something can throw the whole vehicle direct but that's just conflict of ideas I guess. So I won't debate that.

Intuition says that this would add a lot of mass to my ship, but looking at my landers, about half of them, including the one I spent the longest perfecting, use positron reactors and I don't think I can get similar performance out of anything else. I may have to redesign the mothership to include a QSR. It had one early in the design phase but I decided I didn't need that much power, and the form factor was rather large. I'll do some tests to see how fast it produces positrons and how much it uses... It might be worth it.
  10. If you are using Stockalike Engine configs you should just delete the Module manage patchs that convert the SRBs to ModuleEnginesRF and forget real fuels for them. Stockalike only use one type of solidfuel anyway so you are not losing anything by using BetterSRB instead.   12. Question. How does one make positrons? I can collect antimatter from magnetic fields but I don't know what to do from there. If necessary I can probably switch my operation over to antimatter but I would prefer to not change the tanks on a few different crafts.

  17. In my mod, I've got cases where I want to consume and create resources. I've been using ResourceConverter.ProcessRecipe, but I believe that may not be the right API because (I'm pretty sure), it runs into trouble if the resources involved in the recipe are located in different stages. E.g. LF in a tank in the booster stage, ore in an orbital stage (just for example). I got my example from USI-LS, which uses this api for snack consumption. It does something vastly different for production (and it's hard to unwind from local logistics). Anybody know a better API (or a better way to call it) so that I don't have this trouble? Or examples of mods that do this kind of thing and aren't broken in this way would be good too.
  18. One of my favorite parts of an Apollo book was in "Chariots for Apollo: The Making of the Lunar Module" by Charles R. Pellegrino and Joshua Stoff. The chapters detailing the Apollo 11 mission included mention of the Luna 15 probe that was in lunar orbit the same time as the Apollo 11 mission, and how people at NASA were worried that Luna 15 might land, snag some rocks, and get back to Earth before the Apollo 11 crew. Chapter 49 ends after Neil and Buzz are back in the LM trying to get some sleep. Then comes chapter 50, titled "LUNA 15" which contains only one word: Crashed. ...a writing style I presume ansaman would appreciate.

  20. The Gigan capsule, trunk, heat-shield, and decoupler still need that 90 degree rotation to be oriented correctly.
  21. The fairings themselves can be essential for some crafts. Building custom capsules with rovers in them, for example. That's how I found that bug, because my Duna rover with custom capsule doesn't work how it should anymore. Even if you somehow manage to get rid of the decouple bug (which i figured out how to do in this case), then you get slapped in the face by the byproduct of that bug: rcs doesn't fire until you de-render the fairing, which is impossible in the atmosphere due to extended render range. And my skycrane relies on rcs for orientation. I'm not even going to start imagining how many designs are going to be broken due to this change. Even the basic rockets in some cases. I'm not saying that it's straight up unplayable, but it can be almost as bad as broken aerodynamics. Some people might not even see that much of a change, but other people crafts might not work at all. Either way, no biggie, my duty here is to report a bug, not tell people how fast they should do their job.
  22. I leaned on giving the Yari the win because of Bonus 2, honestly. Were it not for infinite ammo accidentally being on (not that any of them likely would have run out of ammo by that point), the DF-2 Yari would have been much easier to call a winner.

    Funnily I've heard the titanium grid fins being quoted at over a million dollars each, meanwhile the engines are a fraction of a million each. I think their total costs might be comparable! Makes you wonder which end of the rocket is more expensive. Glad to hear they're making a new octograbber.

  25. thanks! How about fusion pellets? Just this evening I warped into Jool and slowly put it in a 201km parking orbit (flight time is 15 days) and I only used about 3 pellets
