  3. Why not write to the man yourself and ask him nicely?

    The reason why it's not likely is because ESA is a community space program of European nations. Their budget and goal is to their science and space research and development. They answer to their respective countries, who answer to their respective politicians, who answer to their respective peoples. When people start asking "Why is our taxpayer's money, supposedly allocated to furthering space and science, spending a few ***million*** on a ***video game?***" It is pretty hard for the head of ESA to say "Um... positive advertising?" 
    ESA partnered with KSP in the past because it cost them virtually nothing and could easily fall under their advertising budget. A video game costs more. A lot more. More than could be justified when that money at ESA should be going to furthering the real-world spaceflight that KSP aims to replicate.

    Damned right! And Charles Babbage! Why, if that b*stard hadn't invented the computer in the first place, i'd never have a computer on which to play the original KSP in the first place. My hopes would've never been raised for KSP2!

  7. Threads like this are a waste of time. Class action lawsuits happen when you have an actual leg to stand on. The moment you bought KSP2 in Early Access you agreed to the terms and conditions, whether you read them or not. Those terms and conditions clearly tell you that you should understand that Early Access games on Steam may stop development at any moment and the game can be taken down at any moment. That is why Early Access was created as a category.

    All you'd be doing is giving money to lawyers who would be more than willing to lie to you and tell you that you could win the case and then shrug when you lose hands down.

    I didn't intend it to come across that way. And I never denigrated his work, I was applauding it. I was sympathizing with him losing his  job - a past tense situation.
    My only mis-step was continuing on with ONE word in the past tense , using "were" an inspiration. He still is.

     

    Jeez, some people will nitpick ANY positive message to ruin it.

    I think part of the problem was the player numbers were quickly falling back off though. If you look at the Steam player count, they shot up to 1,500 after For Science but, after 4 months, they were on track to be back where they were pre-patch in the 100 to 200s.

    But that's why it fell under Private Division.

    Private Division was specifically designed and created to be Take 2's "let's see if we cant find the next Minecraft or Among Us with ***minimal investment***" division. 


    It's sole reason for existence is to fund promising indie projects, to see if one of them becomes the next big breakout hit. KSP1 being what it was obviously made KSP2 a prime reason for investment.
    If that investment doesn't produce the breakout hit they wanted then it never cost the larger company too much and doesn't cost them much to axe it with minimal impact to Take 2's overall finances. 

    It also meant that if Take 2 hit hard times or things take a downturn, then the first things that get culled are the small-time "test" projects in Private Division... which is exactly what's happened.

  12. Same here as @Flush Foot It's flawed thinking to say the game failed simply because they promised multiplayer. I didn't care about multiplayer and would've never used multiplayer.  Yes, people bought into something that wasn't complete and was on a promise of things being completed, which I personally find naive (reason I never bought KSP2,) but plenty of companies in game development ...and business in general... put out goals to achieve at the beginning of conception that they have no idea how they are logistically going to implement. That it is why it is called a "goal" and not a "certainty."

    The fact modders had made a rudimentary version of multiplayer work was probably what made them believe it was a feasible goal, which is entirely reasonable.

    Everything's a "dumb" idea until one dumb idea succeeds. Like re-usable rockets was called dumb by everyone. Elon isn't the devil, he's not a saint, either. He's not a genius but neither is he dumb. You don't get to be one of the world's richest men by being dumb.

    Did you know when the first railway was made they put fencing/boarding up either side of it, because they believed anything going faster than 30mphs would squish your brains inside your skull and the first person using a train would die? They didn't want the public to see that "dumb" idea.

    I don't think Take 2 met their expectations, then. I was a raging KSP fan who would've paid anything to play an improved version of KSP.

    Knowing Take 2 are Take 2, however, I watched videos on the game, lets plays, reviews of EA, followed its progress on these forums, and vowed to give them all of my money if they proved they were on the right track. They never received a penny from me....


    ...maybe being responsible meant I wasn't their target market, after all... hmmm...

  16. Shadowzone basically pointed out what we know as confirmed "facts," why bad journalism will take words like "support a game" and misconstrue it to mean "development is saved/and/or continuing," and why you can only work out logical hypotheticals at this point.
    He never claimed anything, unlike the other terrible gaming journalist websites have been doing.

    That is called responsible journalism.

    Not saying he is or isnt, but he's made many tweets about KSP in the past, about having played it, loving it, asking KSP devs for ideas etc...

    Pure speculation and guesswork based on nothing. Many businesses would first cut loose a tainted product with negative reviews that isn't going to recover, over an untarnished project that is "clean" and doesn't have a bad reputation. It depends on the company. Hello Games had ALL their eggs in one basket, they had to turn around No Man's Sky because that games reputation WAS their studio's reputation. The two were intrinsically linked.

    Take 2 can cut and cull almost anything they want except GTA and Red Dead.

    We know from previous Nate interviews and other sources there were around 70 or so employees at IG.
    IG's studio was based in Seattle.
    70 people have been laid off at the Seattle studio. That's the entire studio. After June that studio will be a building with 0 employees. You don't keep paying for a building that has 0 employees inside it.
    If you intend to keep a studio going you do not sack all the staff. You sack X amount, and keep the employees you want to keep going in that building and then add in new people slowly over time.

    That link also clearly states "closure" being the reason, meaning it is not just layoffs, it is the closure of the building or company.

    You also don't close a studio down just to move those 70 employees elsewhere, especially when the corporate statement basically said they were downsizing their workforce. 
    Nate now being listed as a Private Division employee also points to the fact Intercept Games is no more as an entity.
    It is safe to assume a large portion of the people at IG were laid off. As was speculated, this could mean any who remain will be working from home, or get turned into a smaller new studio with a new physical office elsewhere. That's THE best case scenario.
     

    And considering this game, at its current pace, was STILL looking like it was going to take years to complete with a team of 70, imagine how much longer it will take with a team half that size or smaller. Imagine how good the quality of the product might have been with a team of 70 (not great judging by the ineptitude shown so far) and imagine how crappy the quality of a product will be with half that or less. Or, as speculated, the other option is they just fumble through the colonies update and sell that as the "finished" product, ending production early. At best, keeping on an even smaller team to make interstellar and multiplayer as DLC.

    Regardless of waiting for confirmation or not, there are enough facts on the ground to show that Take 2 are cutting back on this game big time and that it will not recover from this latest cataclysmic hammer blow. Why? Because what little social media and internet engagement this game already got will now fall off a cliff due to this news.  Because the majority of people like me, who barely checked in once every 2 months due to past ineptitude on the project, will barely check back in a year or two, ...or if ever.

    That will mean less interest in the game, and Take 2 (as this whole debacle has proven) are led by metrics alone. If the numbers don't appear, they cut and cull.

    So, even if KSP2 carries on in a zombified, necrofied corpse-husk of a shell, limping on and moaning "braaaains," with just 20 devs working on it, it will now get the one thing worse than the negative publicity it has already garnered - it will get no one showing ANY interest in it at all.

    And that? That is the death knell of a game.
