I have only landed on Minmus...and I have yet to take off from there. Only 220 Delta-V left. But, I agree, the landing was pretty darn easy with the low gravity. Welcome to the game rd-md, it's quite addicting and fun!

The Chain Station - An exercise in double-docking
Impatience replied to jamis's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Okay, thats pretty damn cool making it look like a chain. I'm gonna have to steal that idea some time soon me thinks. Thanks for sharing! -
So after much work, adjustments, burns, and general havoc, I managed my first manned landing on Minmus!! YAY!!! Ticker tape parades were in order, general celebrations happening all over Kerbin. Well, until we realized that poor Jeb didn't have enough fuel to get back home. Many attempts have been made with the limited amount of fuel to figure out a trajectory home, but I haven't been able to get under about 1 million KM distance from Kerbin on a return flight. With only about 220 Delta-V in the tanks, we appear to be stuck. So a rescue mission is being planned in order to try and get Jeb back. It's probably safe to assume that the lander will stay there forever at this point?

Well, I now have proof that the mission isn't over until it's over Did my first high altitude flyby of Minmus last night, which was very exhilarating. Collected a TON of science from it and headed home with plenty of fuel to spare. However, my Kerbin landing didn't go so well. After touching down in what looked like the highlands, there was just a little too much angle on my landing struts and the ship tipped over, exploding several tanks and a couple of science pods. Jeb did survive the ordeal, but much science was lost. A new mission is being planned to regain that lost science

Backup photographer makes mockery of high Mun pass
Impatience posted a topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Unfortunately, our primary flyby photographer, Bill, was out sick so we had to find someone else to document our high Mun pass. Killip, from the mail room, was the only one with any amateur experience. Killip thought it would be funny to document the flyby in his own unique way: Steampunk Mun or SandPeople "The Little Prince" Needless to say, we can't wait for Bill to feel better so we can scientifically document our missions. Killip is grounded to the mail room again. -
I just used IMGUR for my picture posting...

I had a similar issue as you, wondering..."What Next?"...and "How do I best get science to advance my tech tree?"... I found the following Tutorial/Walkthrough to be very helpful in getting me a lot more understanding of how to get science as well as helping me get to the Mun and other places. Check it out! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/62814-Tutorial-Beginner-Science

Thanks ZLM. I'm a bit of an overachiever, so I'm trying to push the limits and get to the next big goal. Probably time to setting down a little and spend some more time on Kerbin. Notice the name, Impatience, I have a hard time not pushing for the next big accomplishment, often missing the smaller ones on the way hehehe.

Hmm, okay, I'll give that a try. I've been trying to always get a circular orbit. Kinda building on my skills and considering that a base skill, but I suppose that will come more naturally with time. Thanks for the advice! That should greatly reduce the stress level of orbit

Welcome I just joined myself, and am also playing career mode. However, I haven't unlocked nearly that much. I've only unlocked my first 90 Science tier, and still have some 45 Science tiers I left behind (which I'm now finding out was a bad idea as I'm really limited in my ability to build rockets). Your advancement through career mode gives me hope!

Another option to consider is CrashPlan. It's a cloud based backup software that is free to use if you backup locally to another drive or if you backup to a friends computer. The only time they charge you is if you want to backup to their cloud. I have a bunch of friends that use this, so we just backup to each other.

Agreed, seems like a good use for something like dropbox or if you have your own NAS you can setup your own, I use CloudStation with Synology. Lot's of options out there for getting data out of your ability to delete

So after my quick success with getting into orbit around Kerbin, things have become much more challenging. My first next step after getting into orbit around Kerbin was to place a probe into orbit around Kerbin which I was able to do now without too much issue, so feeling really good about that. However, this is where the quick rewards in KSB stopped. I made a few changes to my gameplay. First, I decided I would start building my own rockets instead of using other peoples builds from tutorials or forums. Let me tell you it has been very difficult for me to create ships that have enough delta-V to get into orbit and then to the moon and also not have the the rocket start spinning as I try and get into orbit. The rocket spin makes my gravity turns fail miserably time after time, so by the time I do get my apoasis where I want it, I'm ending up with a really messed up orbit if I'm able to achieve it at all. The second change I made aside from building my own ships, was to start using Kerbal Engineer Redux to make rockets in a smart and efficient manner. So the learning curve has gone up with trying to build my own ships and do them efficiently at the same time. Then add in the fact that I'm trying to use maneuver modes to get into orbit and then plan my burn to the moon. I'm pretty slow at setting up the nodes, so trying to use this for setting up my initial orbit around Kerbin has resulted in many aborted orbit attempts with just returning the capsule to Kerbin. So did I make it to the Mun? Yes, I finally did. It was getting late, and I was determined to get SOMETHING to the moon. So, I went back to my probe build (someone else's rocket design) and did my own orbit burns without using maneuver nodes. Whew...okay, orbit around Kerbin achieved again. Then after a few attempts I setup the maneuver node to the Mun and executed my burns (poorly, but successfully). With much delight I got to transfer into the sphere of influence of the moon, whip around it, then transfer back into Kerbin's influence and sail safely home. I MADE IT! To the Mun and back without getting into orbit, or landing, but it's all about baby steps right? Now it's time to spend some more time making my own rockets and try and get these spin and gravity turn issues resolved. It's okay to use other peoples designs, but my real accomplishment will be when I can build one from scratch and get to the Mun!

First orbit achieved, I'm so excited!
Impatience replied to Impatience's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I'm doing this in Career Mode. BTW, did my spacewalk...we had a few problems but we eventually got back into the ship (I might have had to do one or two quick reloads...) -

FYI, I now realize this is probably posted in the wrong part of the forum, oooops. I = n00b -
I know most if not all of you have achieved this, but for me this was a monumental achievement! My space program has launched it's first Kerbonaut into orbit and returned him safely to the ground! Space exploration first steps FTW!! (Only took about 10-15 tries) (I have a hint for anyone new trying to do this, make sure you are turning to 45 degrees during ascent, and not misreading the gimball and only turning 22.5 degrees LOL) ...And here is a nice rear command module shot...never thought I'd get to take a photo like this! I've made it to space! --Impatience

I would like to ask for a moment of silence for Jeb. During a risky high speed, high altitude EVA maneuver to gather critical science data, Jeb found himself detached from the Command Module. Unfortunately, Jeb found himself plummeting helpless to the planets surface below. Our space program is in it's infancy, and unfortunately Jeb is our first casualty of progress. We will remember you always. Thank you for your service and dedication to the cause. R.I.P. --Impatience

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Impatience and I've only been aware of Kerbal Space Program for a few days...let me say...AMAZING! I remember playing a Space Shuttle game cartridge on my Commodore 64 about 25+ years ago and I was addicted to it. Since then, I haven't really seen much that interested me in the space simulator genre. Kerbal Space Program is a welcome sight. I just happened to be looking through steam for a demo of something I could play to waste some time and saw this cartoony space thing and thought, what the hell, should amuse me for about 10 minutes. I played, I crashed, I didn't get it. Then I found the forums and the wiki's and realized what you guys are really doing here and I'm hooked. So after reading some wiki's, watching a few Scott Manley videos, and dreaming of space flight...the purchase was made (took less than 12 hours from demo download to purchase). I've started career mode, following along on the wiki, and I've made it to space yay!!! Haven't been in orbit yet or been to the Mun, but soon my friends, soon I will be exploring all that space has to offer. I'm so jazzed hehehe Thanks for your time and energy into building such a magnificent space program simulator...worth every penny! --Impatience
