What functions can kerbonauts do while on EVA?
cantab replied to TerminalV's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Oh yes, another one: swim. Sounds obvious but Tommy Vercetti couldn't! -
According to this delta-V map, http://i.imgur.com/Wfyf9l2.png , it's slightly cheaper to burn for Kerbin transfer directly from Ike. But the difference is within error and variation tbh.

Durnit. I wait ages for a riddle then three come along at once while I'm away.

What functions can kerbonauts do while on EVA?

A delta-V of around 600 m/s. That's quite a bit, enough to get back to low Kerbin orbit from some situations as well as to make return landings on small bodies. Store duplicate science reports - same experiment, same situation, same biome. The only other thing that can do that is the science lab, which is a lot heavier than a Kerbal in an external seat. Duplicate reports are needed for most experiments to get all the science available. Transfer science to another Kerbal. This combined with the above means that two Kerbals can collect as many EVA reports and surface samples as you like. In external seats, transfer EVA fuel between each other. Take down a flag and gain it for replanting. Kind of trivial, but worth knowing if you care about flag orientation. Read the inscription on a flag. This is the only in-game way to do so. Survive a head-first landing on Kerbin with no assistance. Sometimes. -
I think it's going to depend on the exact ship a lot. For example if I was designing a "disposable" mission trying to minimise overall mass, I'd be minded to hit Duna first, because I don't need chutes or as much fuel capacity for Ike so I could ditch those.

If you have an LV-N with its position and fuel supply making it suitable to use, you should be using it any time you're on rocket (as opposed to jet) power and it gives a higher Isp than your chemical engines. The altitude this becomes the case depends on the chemical engine of course, but for an LV-T30/45 it's a mere 1000 metres or so on Kerbin.

An unfortunate initialism-clash there. And yeah, having played so much KSP I found Star Wars ships with glowing engines all the time jarring. As for Gravity, I found Sandra Bullock's damsel-in-distress character more annoying than the iffy orbital mechanics.

One sentence you could say to annoy an entire fan base?

Man U fans are just a bunch of glory hunters. "Where did you go on holiday?" "England." "Cool, what city?" "Cardiff and Edinburgh." -

(Insert team here) are the best team in (insert city with more than one team playing the same sport here). -
Up until .18, and then since .23.5, RCS thrusters have been physicsless, ie the game disregards their quoted mass and drag. This really helps monopropellant-powered ships, going some way to offset the low Isp and inferior tankage. The new O-10 engine is as suitable as any for a Mun mission, and even if you only use the classic thrusters it will still be perfectly possible, you'll just need a beefier first stage on the launcher.

Weight, though, does increase top speed. Even on the runway at KSC, with downward-firing rockets I reached higher speeds than without, and the rover I sent to Eve performed very well, better than in testing on Kerbin. I assume this goes on weight per wheel, so reducing wheel count may increase speed, at the cost of challenging the structure more.Remapping the controls is of course important, and what I found really made rover driving fun was using a gamepad. Only a simple digital one (an original Playstation controller actually), but it's so much nicer than holding a keyboard key down for ages. And put the camera in chase mode for a more direct and immediate feel. PS: Rover in question: https://flic.kr/p/oEQAdw Built for Duna actually, hence the fuel tanks, which I mostly emptied for the one I sent to Eve.

On topic: What's Squad's ownership structure? Ie are they publicly traded, a private limited company, something Mexican that's not fully analogous to UK or US corporate structures, what? Because that has a big effect on how easily or otherwise they might be taken over. Of course there's already one candidate buyer for Squad: Curse, should they want to branch out into actually owning game studios. Off topic: My main concern with the Minecraft acquisition is that MS will make it exclusive to their platforms and stop the updates for others. Ie Windows 8 Store, Windows Phone Store, and XBox One only. No OSX or Linux, no other consoles, no Steam, no iOS or Android etc. They may feel that Minecraft is popular enough that "Exclusively for Windows and XBox" will drive phone and console sales.

Ask a stupid question, Get a stupid answer back.

Buy a drink. After travelling back in time to an era when you could do that. What's the difference between a duck? -
Darts? Really just fits the clues more than the riddle... Edit: Or tapdancing, or dancing in general, because why else would you mention shoes.
-
Ok guess random old stuff: the Big Bang? CMB? Cosmic Neutrino Background?
-
That just makes it even more baffling... Is it The Last Post? (The bugle call played at military funerals and remembrance ceremonies). Edit: Or, for a completely different interpretation, the Windows startup tune.

The answer, which is also a question, I'd give is unfortunately against the forum rules, since it's firstly in French and secondly an "adult" reference. -
85. When the only song the karoeke has is Crazy Frog.
-
What about a referee's whistle? That would account for the reference to shoes, most sports have specialist footwear.
-
Not sure it fully fits, but a baby's cry? Maybe the riddle being a rather pessimistic, destined-to-die-as-soon-as-we're-born view of birth.
-
Seems like something to do with a court might fit. Maybe a judge's gavel?
-
Yeah, low fps even with few parts is usually a sign of either incorrect graphics drivers or a weak graphics card. The solution in that case is to either lower detail and put up, or upgrade.
