SCIENCE! Returned - it's over 8,000! Not breaking any records, I know, except personal ones - and this smashed my previous best by a long way! Just got to get my Pilots back now... oversight of forgetting parachutes on this section means a creative and unusual return-craft, but it's all part of the fun! Final Report (hopefully) tomorrow

Broken one of the rules; You have entered the Atmosphere (ends at 69.something...) which is the most achievable with this challenge... so IMO, not really a challenge...

Current biomes are boring.
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to 0x7be's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
As already said, they will be doing more, just give them time! This is their first game, it's taken over 3 years to get this far... I suggest you have a go at one or two of the older versions of KSP to see how far they've come -
I think I may have found where you went wrong! Drinking always makes gaming... um.. 'interesting' lol... especially for the bits you need to try and concentrate on! At least you managed to land right way up... I've managed to forget to control from the right place so many times (and had to F9 because of it) I'm sure some of my crew didn't know if they were coming or going half the time

Damn you guys are lagging... thanks to the various Indie Game sales sites, and the regular seasonal Steam Sales, I now have over 300 games in my library!!! I'm set for life Apart from... KSP now takes up most of my gaming time... everytime I think I have burnt out, or just start getting bored, a new challenge is posted or an update comes out and it's like a whole new game again ^.^ /offtopic Do you have Steam installed already? If so, then I agree with the others - because Steam is a worldwide distribution system, if the server you are currently connected to is slow (and not your internet being slow...) then you can happily jump to any other server in the world - I do this sometimes, as somewhere that is early-in-the-morning compared to where I am has a much lower load then the one in your specific country where everyone else might be trying to download things from... as far as I know, the KSP store only has the one server, which can lead to problems (none of which are Squad's fault, I hasten to add!)

They're HOME! in a nice 630 x 630Km orbit, and now I'm sending up some specialist recovery vehicles for each of the 2 parts being returned to KSC - the Mobile Processing Lab (Returner vehicle already on-route to rendezvous, has a single Poodle engine, 4x Heavy Landing Gear, and a special MonoProp Tug for the top with 4x Drogue 'chutes to help slow it down so neither the Science Jr. or nosecone and barometer assemblies drop off! There are already 4 radial 'chutes on the MPL itself, but want to be absolutely sure NOTHING will go wrong with returning this hard-earned science!!!) The Crew Quarters return ship is going to be... um... interesting... I'm thinking of trying to get that crew transfer spaceplane going to get them back, then I will get to re-use the Crew Quarters in the future BIG Update coming up over the weekend (Should hopefully be the final report!)

Just had a MAJOR panic... I thought my persistant file had died! Argh! Decided to try one more time, but selected a different craft... lo and behold, it worked! now back in control of the main ship... Final refuel procedures are underway (would have completed last night, but everything froze >.< probably leading to todays issues...) Hopefully next post will be: Completed, just writing up final report EDIT: Oh, FFS, now ALL the docking ports are bugged EDIT 2: Persistant file edit sorted it, turned out to be the quicksave bug
-
When Multiplayer happens in a future update, another good thing is the voice chat integrated into the overlay... And the community on there is pretty similar to the one here (helpful and friendly )
-
I also think this is a very good idea... and if I had a better 'net connection than my current mobile phone, I would join you in offering this service! Original post could be edited to include others who would like to be involved, and give contact details for Skype and Teamviewer (Both are really secure 1 to 1 sessions, and I think in Teamviewer you can set it to 'view only mode' or something, so files and things are secure )

the most stupid challnge ever
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to raze121212's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Heh, no-one spotted my mistake yet! all good... o.k, I give in, the challenge I linked doesn't include the 'without timewarp' rule... but I don't have YEARS to do these missions! you do realise that even WITH cheats/OP mods, the travel time is going to be rediculous? Average travel time to Jool is about 3 years... wihtout waiting for the transfer window, which can add up to 2+ years, so a trip to Jool and back would take about 10 years Real Time!!! -
Cheers, I shall get Jeb and Co. to wave back! Current status; rendezvous of a tanker with the main Jool SaR Ship (I have swapped out the engines for one of the Tanker Trucks with permission from Ziv), once I have transferred the fuel over it *should* be a simple matter of leaving Tylo's SOI and going back to Jool's, then setting course for home and burning when necessary! (He says, omitting how many RL hours this might take... that'll be in the final report!)
-
Cheers for the update, Ziv, I'm sure we are all looking forward to the next update to the challenge! I am SO CLOSE to finishing... just got the Pol report to do, and get my Kerbals home with all this lovely lovely science, so expect the final entry from me around the weekend sometime Then I will probably do a persistant file edit to turn that save into a Science Sandbox so I can prepare my examples for my Infrastructure 'holidays' challenge MiniMatt; nice work so far! Some advice though; you don't need to build the science modules into each lander; you can have one do-everything science module that can dock, and the Mobile Processing Lab can both store AND reset your experiments, saving a fair bit of weight on the entire mothership And yeah, the resources linked on page 1 are invaluable! I ended up finding most of them myself before Ziv posted the links (or I simply missed them somehow) but both the Delta-V maps and Jool Aerobrake graphs are two of the most important things to have on this kind of long, time-eating missions - - - NOT Updated - - -

the most stupid challnge ever
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to raze121212's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
There is already a challenge to do this... forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/27127-KSP-Grandmaster%21-%28Land-on-every-body-of-the-Kerbal-System%21%29 Please use google to search before you post (it works better than the forum search) to see if someone else has already posted a similar challenge I think you need to try some other people's challenges to see how they work before posting some more of your own, it will give you a better idea on how to best lay out the challenge, and it is expected that the challenge poster completes it first to show it can be done (in this case it can be done, but as stated, the challenge already exists, complete with rules and scoreboards and things...) -
Launch Escape System Challenge!
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
LES uses solid fuel? so what is to stop anyone using SRB's? Just sayin', before you end up with entries with loads of SRB's strapped to the side! >.< -
hmmmm, just come across a huge bug in 2.3.0 version... Trying to get to Minmus for first time in career, but MJ seems to be locked onto Mun as the only target?! For 2.0, I was impatient and grabbed the quickly updated version of the .dll file, and everything worked, in fact I had extra maneuver options... now I'm back to the same maneuver options I had in the first place, and this bug is forcing me to manually work out manuevers (lazy, I know, but isn't that one of the reasons some of us love mechjeb? hehe ) EDIT: I could be wrong about the maneuver options... they seem to have moved in the list EDIT 2: oops, 32-bit... not tried 64-bit yet!
-
Don't think it has been discussed yet, no! I'm liking the changes - another big one being you unlock both the Poodle and Skiper together in Career mode now, so no more of those silly poodle-powered lifters I used to make before I knew how things worked a bit better lol Skippers make for some pretty decent Lv's... not pretty, but good enough

Can't harvester just remove the kraken?
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Clockwork13's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yep, this... But more on-topic, does the original poster know which of the following Unity uses to end a command: ],}, or )? If not, you are not qualified to say how easy some code is to trawl through looking for THE SINGLE DIGIT/CHARACTER out of place... it's like those stupid "Spot the 'C' in a field full of 'D's and you will have lucky luck all year 'cos the chinese neighbour said so" games... meh, it's bad enough managing to put [/img (without closing bracket) in a Mission Report for a Challenge, then having to trawl through the naked code loking for the one slightly-out-of-place gap... EDIT: Unless it's the Hell Kraken. that one is still a Kraken! -
You would have to leave a pod for him, as he has to return to a pod for both extra flags and EVA fuel...
-
It's entirely up to Ziv, of course, but to make it fair this would have to turn into a download challenge... which I think should be avoided, as it adds an extra (complication) step... or we have to use the Dev console to cheat the funds... either way could be open to abuse! I think maybe let any stragglers finish, then re-start the challenge, with the added dimention for some sort of contract or funds allowance... not sure how to implement this myself, so I'm gonna wait to see what Ziv comes up with! (Also adds the chance for a hard-mode with no refuelling and other limitations, though... maybe a complete overhaul of the challenge level system?) EDIT: And now I've found out how to make my current 23.5 save into a .24 science-only save (from here) I might continue it on there instead of from my backed-up 23.5...

Cmdr. Arn1e's Jool Adventure (and Jool 5 submission)
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Cmdr. Arn1e's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Wow, have things progressed fast since the last update! The Tylo Lander worked like a charm, all due 'grats to Fendleton for the idea of using solid boosters for descent - worked like a charm, if a little dangerous for the last 2 boosters! I'd better explain... Here is the lander, now in Jool system: Aerobraking: Another pretty big course change to get on a Tylo intercept: On-course: Circularized around Tylo: Connecting up with the previous iteration of the Lander, to pick up the Science package and Bill: Docked: Bill enjoying his EVA: Once transfer was complete, the landers disconnected from the tug and span round so the right one was now connected, and the old lander disposed of by crashing into Tylo's surface: Then the fun realy began! took me a god few attempts to Land without losing any parts, thanks to the bi-staged SRB's. 2 to put me into a landing trajectory, and 2 to slow me enough when I got closer to the surface: Safely down (You'll notice solar panels are folded away; a necessary precaution, as on release of the last 2 SRB's, usually while still firing, would destroy 2 of them if they were open!): As I said, it took me a few goes to get it down and take it off again with enough dV to rendezvous back with the Mothership, so only took one set of science screenshots: A nice shot of Bill before planting flag/collecting science: And collecting science: Takeoff was fun: and heading back to the Mothership was also fairly simple: Docked back together: all dat SCIENCE!: Cleaning the experiments: Sending the Lander off to the surface for destructive disposal: Then re-fuelled the Tug to ferry Dergal Kerman to Bop: Everything connected up about to depart for Bop (sorry for dark picture!): Travel to Bop was trivial; as this was his first time out, it was decided he was not to use MechJeb (I forgot to put the module on >.<) for his landing and ascent, doing it the old fashioned way! He managed a pretty decent landing, so I guess he learnt a lot from his Instructors He got on with the science quickly: Takeoff was very straightforward: Back with the Tug (sorry for horribly dark pic!): Better pic: back to Tylo: back together with the Mothership: Dergel then collected all the science; and stored it in the MPL: and headed back to his seat in the HHC. Then, as there was no robotic control over the lander, I decided to expend a now-useless docking adaptor to dispose of the Lander (again on Tylo's cold hard ground): Then Tomeny got ready for his trip to Pol...: Once ready, He headed off: Then, before I could complete, .24 has hit! Argh! The Distraction! I have backed-up my .23.5 folder just so I can finish off this mission without the changes, as it's looking like I will need to send one last Fuel Tanker, and with the new currency system apparently you have to complete a load of missions before you can think of sending anything interplanetary, which would mess up this final stage... It also means that I'm not running through Steam and so am goin to upload screenshots to photobucket from the screenshots folder... Dag nabbit! heh... -
So how are you scoring? what proof do you want? It is customary to show that it is possible to do, even if you can't use video - you can use the built-in screenshot button (F1) to capture screenshots to the screenshots folder in the game folder...
