What is it with me, Arin, and capture burns? I swear, first I have a 6 km/s capture burn, and now I don't have enough delta-v for a Sonnah capture Screw it, I'm leaving them there. I already have to rescue the Peregrine. Maybe I'll rescue them when I come back with the new Duneshifters. *sigh* The MTU Horizon is back! Yay! This is a happy moment! I am not upset!
-
Fixed. I was wondering why they had so similar names
-
Actually, you know what? This works out. The FAT-455 tail fins have a low heat tolerance, so I replaced them with the Big-S tailfins, which bring the CoL back, so I can add fins to the front to move the CoL forward! BRILLIANT! Woops meant to edit
-
Actually they're LANTERNs from the Atomic Age mod. They have a secondary mode where they use oxidizer to boost thrust, at the cost of reduced Isp. They're still more efficient than most engines. Although now I want to make a plane powered only by NERVs... *more scheming*
-
Managed to get the Duneshifter into orbit with 700 m/s delta-v to spare! Minor issue: it doesn't want to pull up with the wing tips. So that's going to make landing difficult. It seems to fly fine without the wing tips though, and it still would have ~3x the lift of the original... *scheming* Also this is the coolest looking bug I've ever seen:
-
How has this not gotten any attention? Why does the mohole get special treatment? --- How about a sleek SSTO biplane? It has ~4x the amount of lift, and weighs only slightly more than the original. The wing tips can detach to reduce drag during takeoff: I haven't actually got it into orbit yet, but I'm getting close. Wish me luck!
-
Yes, albeit a somewhat thin one with no oxygen EDIT: Actually upon closer inspection it's only slightly thicker than Duna's. Which I wish I had noticed earlier, since I already know Duna isn't good for flying planes.
-
You know, for once I'd like to have a plane that I don't have to pull up 80 degrees to not fall out of the sky So it looks like I'm not landing on Arin today.
-
All right, reached orbit around Arin and have deployed one of the Duneshifters! Now I just have to aerobrake a couple of times an-- DANGIT ATELL! Alright then, change of plans. Well that went better than expected.
-
Some of them are hard to see, but I managed to get a picture with all of the moons of Sonnah: EDIT: Actually, you don't have to kill me yet. I was just joking. Now you can kill me.
-
Kill me now

After having all of my refuelers use nukes, I finally got sick of having a really low TWR and decided to use Kerbodyne engines to make my life easier. Several ironic hours later and I have finally managed to refuel the Sundiver Oh by the way I got the Sundiver to space.

I see you're a fan of bacteriophages

Up until now the MOTHER program has been about versatility. The original plan was to use them to ferry spacecraft around the solar system. After my encounter with Arin, however, I've decided that sometimes a little specialization is necessary. As such I have made the MTU Sundiver, designed for inner solar system operations! The marketing division tells us the orange paint radiates heat better. She's got less crew space than the normal MOTHER, but more radiators and way, way more delta-V. Also she doesn't have anywhere near as many solar panels, but when you're that close to the sun you don't need too many. Now to figure out how to get it to space...

Unfortunately for me, as much as I want to stay as far away from Titanus as possible, I'm going to have to go back to rescue Franlie and Beadrien. So I've made some modifications to the Peregrine: Now you may be saying, "But wait! It looks exactly the same!" And that is where you are WRONG! For you see, it has AN EXTRA PAIR OF PUFFS! MUAH HA HA HA! In all seriousness that's not all. I've replaced quite a bit of the mono-propellant with Liquid Fuel. Which gives me a much larger margin of error. Besides, I really don't need 5000 units of mono-propellant. 4000 is more than enough. Also ladders.
-
There are very big mountains with very steep slopes. And yes, it is very dark. Not the best landing site.
-
On second thought, maybe I don't want to land here. I had the lander re-dock with the Eagle, and had Camlo get out. Now that Camlo is out of the lander, I have decided to put it in orbit around Titanus. To take pictures. Nothing else. And now whenever I stop using timewarp the lander starts speeding up relative to Ete. I have hereby decided that Titanus is cursed and I don't ever want to come here again
-
Silly me, I got so distracted talking about my lander which is NOT A SPY SATELLITE that I forgot to talk about Ete! I dunno if any of you remember Krags Planet Factroy? Well, I've been here for 10 seconds and already I'm getting an Inaccessible vibe. I'm only moving 4m/s faster than the surface from orbit! Luckily it seems like it's still possible to land on it. EDIT: This is so weird... it's like Gilly, but spinning really fast and has giant slopes.
-
So yeah, like I mentioned earlier Titanus is broken. It's transitioning from terrain to the orbital model, even though I shouldn't be high enough for it to happen. I'd like to fix it before I try to fly the Peregrine again. Unfortunately I can already tell that my suspicions are confirmed. The atmosphere is so thick at ground level that I can't even get past 100 m/s, and the gravity is so high that I can't climb steeply. I'm going to burn through all my fuel before I get high enough to build up speed. So it looks like I'm going to have to do a rescue mission. On the plus side, the MTU Eagle mysteriously gained 1000 m/s delta-v. Hmm? Wazzat? Where did the other plane go? What other plane? There was definitely only one. I have no idea what you're talking about. EDIT: Well, since nobody else is posting, I might as well edit my own post instead of making another. Sound reasoning, right? Heh. Anyway, I actually had something planned for this. In the even that the Peregrine didn't work, I made... this... lander! So I could land on Ete. That's all it is. There definitely isn't a spy satellite attached to the underside. That's a... uh... satellite engine! Bet you didn't know those existed! Stop asking questions.

I think I broke the game
-
Alright, after my Titanus shenanigans yesterday, I figured I'd take it easy for today and return the Peregrine to orbit later. So, how's the rest of the space program doin-- OH [no] I FORGOT ABOUT THE AMBER! Yeah completely missed my encounter. Luckily I got another one for only 96 delta-v. Crisis averted. Second order of business: Now that I've actually seen the Peregrine in action I have some minor tweaks I want to make. Add ladders The side fuselages were a bit wobbly. MOAR STRUTS!!1! Cooling systems. I managed to survive re-entry without actually destroying anything, but I came dangerously close. Like, within 10°C close. That's way too close. So I'm gonna be doing some experiments.
-
Honestly I'm kinda worried about getting back into space. It didn't occur to me that the orbital velocity would be so much higher. I did try to make it as overkill as possible, so let's hope it works.
-
Thanks! Anyway, I've successfully landed on Titanus! Atmosphere is stifling. Came in for a landing at a mere 30 m/s. And on to our first (or rather last, since the day is almost over) challenge of the day: no ladders. I'm on a planet with 2.1 surface gees and I forgot ladders >.< It's okay though. We can just lower the landing gear.
-
@JadeOfMaar What mod are you using for the planets? --- The MTU Amber has joined the fleet, carrying two more Waders to Laythe But more importantly, the MTU Eagle is arriving at Titanus! The Eagle is down to 2375 m/s delta-v, which is uncomfortably low, but it'll go up once I ditch these heavy spaceplanes. EDIT: Turns out re-entering the atmosphere at 5000 m/s is not a good idea. I should know better. Luckily quicksaves exist!
-
So Arin's a bust. Which means the MTU Horizon is coming home. In seven years. (Hey it's a big step up from seventeen years) One last look at Arin: i will come back.
