  1. Sorry for my poor wording. I didn't meant it as a blame but as a encouragement. I wanted to show that there was a overlap with the considered Data Return Capsule. My point was that adding the close-able option to the petal adapter ad more potential than a dedicated return capsule while allowing a simple user like myself to do both.
  2. @Jimbodiah Thanks! Its fairly simple as well. I showed this as a incitative, hopefully it will motivate Shadowmage to address your pull request. This could obviously have other use that a pure cargo Capsule. But a special part could be done for just that. There is a bunch of things that could be added to this, like using the deployed panel as aerobrake, adding a flat bottom plate, adding integrated para-docking port and RCS that could be used to de-orbit. Most of it I could do on my end I think. There is some "nice to have" feature that would require Shadowmage work, like having a deployedAngle slider and the ability to chose how many panel open. But these are not essential.
  3. @Shadowmage Here is what I intent to do when once you make the Petal adapter reusable: Up side down Petal with toggle bottom plate/shield and a para-docking port on top. As for the structure that link top and bottom section. I might use your SSTUNodeFairing plugin to create a pillar in the middle. SSTUNodeFairing have a collider, so mounting stuff on it will work. It also can be toggled out for more space and custom structure.
  4. It would be awesome if it would support multiple stage recovery. Space-X style.
  5. Yay! I have a party tonight but tomorrow I will do a mockup of I intent to do with it. I think some people might be interested by it.
  6. @Shadowmage Thanks. It occurred to me that I might be able to do what I want myself. Well... with some explanation from you. I would like to have a Petal adapter that do not decouple the top node and is reusable/closeable. Looking at the config of the Petal adapter. I believe I can have it not decouple the top node. But is there a way to toggle the fairing back and have the SSTUAirstreamShield work again?
  7. I am not sure if I understand your answer. Does it mean we will have a cargo bay that can open/close? Does the 'free-form' part mean that conic shape will be possible?
  8. @ShadowmageAre these part are still on the list: I am asking because as I see it there is common ground with Data Return Capsule (excluding heat shield). If you end up doing the Data Return Capsule model. I will most likely use it more often as a regular cargo bay. Just brainstorming, let me explain: To start, I have to say that while I like cargo bay, I kind of hate the stock system. Stock caped versions works fine but are not to my taste aesthetically, open ended version require a part with the same bulkheadProfiles in order to work properly (incompatible with SSTU scaling). For me, they always have been painful to work with. Now, your SSTUAirstreamShield work 100% of the time regardless of the context and is not CPU intensive. Could not ask for more. With the planed MCB-B C and D we could simply add a para-docking port on top and a shield under (built or pre-built trough config) to get the Data Return Capsule while being able to built cargo-ed ship. Now, a conic variant would be absolutely awesome. Something like a modified petal adapter with a top cap and only one opening panel it would do the job quite well I think. The bottom section would probably need to have a flat top but there is already some end cap that would fit quite well. What do you think?
  9. I can test for you and give you my log and save if you need them. (Later, I am at work)
  10. @malkuth So, Tiros and Vostok mission orbit are fine, unless if they were supposed to be much higher than 121km 98km respectively. My Sigma rescale the atmo end at 91km. So I guess its about right. SatelliteContracts orbits are way bellow the surface (Apo -3,079km for a Eq. Radius of 3,840km)
  11. I could see myself using that little habitat. For transit to Minimus and on top of a Orion/apollo capsule it would be nice!
  12. SSTU is not released yet. It have and will continue to break save once in a while. Anyways, all previous version are all available on Shadowmage Github.
  13. No worry. As you see, beside Shadowmage, there is many SSTU user that understand the system quite well. Fell free to ask. If its not Shadowmage that answer, it will be Jimbodiah, tater, Temeter or me. I am sure Shadowmage will appreciate fresh input from new user. For most of us UI and general workflow had become self evident, we just can't judge whats instinctive or not. If I may add, once you have a good grip with SSTU. If you enjoy tweaking configs, I would suggest you to take a look at Jimbodiah patchwork. Good stuff and well made. PS: @Jimbodiah Its funny, while its much better executed than my personal patchwork and add some really good feature, your core patchwork does pretty much the same thing as mine! With minor tweak, I could use it to do a better version of mine. most of the difference come down to preference, but yours cover more ground. I will take a deeper look at it tonight if I can.
  14. I had two satellite contract like that. One nav and one com. I am at work so I can't say much more right now. I remember there was a config in the older version and I read somewhere that you managed to do without it. If I remember correctly you specified some requirement for it to work but I can't find where I read that.
  15. I am using sigma dimensions mod to rescale at 6.4x and I have negative orbit satellite contract. Is there any way to fix this on my end?
  16. Never had that problem but I am sure its solvable. Log is the best way to report bug. Might want to drop a image, sometimes its the way you built it.
  17. Want to do a crewed capsule that can bring back science experiment. they are quite expensive after all. Something that could blend well with SSTU stuff. Nerta have quite nice one in his NearFutureLaunchVehicles. But these are at the end of the tree. I could cheat that I guess... Edit: Soon™ Universal Storage will have some awesome cargo bay.
  18. I started a new career. Quickly became obvious that I do not have any cargo bay for mid game outside the stock one. Damn, they are so ugly...
  19. @RaiderMan Its not that complicated, but on many aspect it is a new philosophy. Just play with it, over time it will become natural. Most of the fun come from the time you discover new possibilities SSTU will offer quite allot of that.
  20. @Shadowmage I feel that Soyuz texture could be improved quite allot with the new PBR option. Would you consider improving its normal map a bit? (some more detail like the periscope would also be welcome.) I know you have allot on the plate. All things take times, and I am equally interested on the new stuff you will come with. Whatever you chose will make me happy.
  21. You can still recolor the ring, as I did. The idea behind the design is: Something like the shuttle, but without crew and wings. It worked well, at start I had the playload on top and top fuel tank in a radial arrangement. But it generated too much drag. So I placed it on top, I would never had been able to do that in stock. The funny part is that ISDC sepratron-decoupler is strong enough to stage without shutting down the main engine! In fact, I do have a sstu probe core installed. Did you add mechjeb to the probe core yourself?
