The Saga of Emiko Station - Complete
Crystal_Mace replied to Just Jim's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I know I'm loving it myself! I Did the "From Mun" Tutorial last night loved the momentary "ACK!" reaction when Valentina hit's he water....Or maybe that was just the camera shaking. That's what SHE says it was.... Gritting your teeth and buying the steel belted radials is ALWAYS the best thing to so. They're not just trying to soak you for more money. Well,. yes they are, but it's still always the best thing to do...... Sounds terrific! I can relate....I was worried my computer was self destructing......but it was just broken code in the directory......that impacted EVERYTHING..... my load times five to twenty minutes to never for everything, Windows responses log jammed five deep when it was responding at all, and auto upgrades were a fricking nightmare. Dani sat down with my computer, did three keypresses, waited for them to be accepted, and after thirty minutes of mulling things over time, HEY, PRESTO! ....everything's copacetic in Windows land again. Well....as copacetic as Windows land ever gets, but at least I'm not having to WAIT forever for their next kerfuffle... Dani's so awesome.... I was just going to hit it with a rock a few more times and see if that helped, or if it was time to switch to a bigger rock. Anyway I can't wait to see what happens next, especially after not having to buy a new computer first. Did you see what I meant about Gem and Theo showing up as teenagers from the future in an alternate reality? -

So THAT'S what a spaceship lauch is supposedd to look like...:) Wow..... I'm not having any major problems with release 1.1.....just the occasional weird little glitchy thing that usually only happens once, and doesn't really hurt anything. -
Kerbal Space Program update 1.1 “Turbo Charged” is now available!
Crystal_Mace commented on KasperVld's article in Developer Articles
I'm not having crashes at all.....but in dome situation my maneuver nodes are disappearing or refusing to save. Also, target mode SAS which is supposed to let your pilot follow the target for you doesn't work at all in my game. At least not in the tutorials that introduced it. I don't have much need for an auto pilot at this stage, but it is sometimes handy to pay attention to what's happening in other parts of the screen to get the bigger picture. Curious....does target mode appear anywhere except the tutorials? Is there an actual in-game use for it, or is just a teaching aid when you're still learning the game? Whatever the case, I get the target, but swttching target mode on does nothing. I still have to follow it manually, which is okay, but I'd like the option in some cases. -

This is it?? (o/`Overture.....curtain lights...o/~) I look at the phrase Patch 1.1....and not Version 1.1......and feel anxious....is this it? For REAL?? gotta go try it out! -
Ah, good.....couldn't decide where it went. Thanks!

Have been puzzling over my forum rank, then it dawned on me. Nobody would know this factoid specifically, but I reaized today.....my passion for space travel dates from one of my first books..." Curious George Gets a Medal". I've been approximating a Valentina Kerman crazed grin all day! Say...George looks oddly Kerbal like, doesn't he...?

Just finished the new chapter and I love it! Did the pirates take the chariot with them...? I really thought the twins were going to end up in the Edwardian hotel room at the end of the universe evolving into the next stage.... hoping the aliens know how to manage staging properly..... umm....RE: rule 2.2b....does being rabidly pro-space count as a political position....? Yikes....! Good luck with all the bug fixes bearing fruit sometime soon.....I'm loving 1.1 pre-release, not plagued by any bugs so far... I can't say that for Space Engineers which I bought from Steam last weekend during the sale......WAY buggy....but I love it anyway! I wonder if their website has a fan-fiction section too? If they do, you might start reading the tales of one Wren Meechum...handicapped Space Engineer, dedicated to helping make space accessible....:) Still thinking of writing about Verzey Kerman...marooned in Munar orbit but waiting for the day they build the first Munar tracking station around her....so she can be the first station commander. -

Maybe Thompberry arranged the chairs to respond to excrementsing mass if they fidget too much...and perhaps kerbal Pressure suits have hooked velcro in the seat to match a pad of looped velcro in the chair...? Oh, my goodness...the evil Thompberry is showing signs of wavering resolve about the twins....? Now's their perfect chance to pull a Hansel and Gretel on him and push him in the oven! THAT'LL teach him to pick on two helpless children! Well...whatever they put in science labs that are like ovens. The autoclave...the sterilizing unit...they're clever that way. I guess the airlock would work in a pinch......it's just not as cool, you know..? Cremation has all that 'fires of Hell' imagery going for it.... Actually, I turn into a marshmallow when the bad guys show signs of reawakening humanity (kerbality?). Monumental discovery? Helping his sworn enemies achieve their goals? He's getting all caught up in what it means to be a kerbal again! Time to forgive and forget! He's not really a bad fellow....he was just hurt, and in love, and planning to blow up the KSC was just misplaced aggression. All of us who watched "Smallville" know Clark Kent and Lex Luthor were supposed to be BFFs, and it's only the writers who insisted on sticking with 60+ years of comics continuity instead of standing up for the higher truth. Right? Have your former arch-nemesis over for dinner! Darn those wacky villains, that's the second oven this week I've ended up being pushed into.... Smoke him, kids. Extra crispy.. Silly babbling aside, I loved this chapter! Wondering just what Dr. Von K. will make of Gene's amazing discovery, and what does it have to do with floating rocks and gravioli...? Gem gets to drive a chariot! Just bring it back with a full tank says Thompberry, more fool he.... My God......it's full of stars.... What's going to happen...? Something wonderful......:) -

I ran ut of likes.....and I haven't even read the latest chapter yet...... Real Life grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and shook me like a kitten until I was finally able to get back here! I've read 38 and 39 so far and a lot of the comments, and ran out of likes before I could finish it all..... Does anybody but me get all melancholy watching Gene pining on the roof as the sun goes down? He and Karenna simply have to be reunited somehow....somewhere.... Thompberry's arrival blew up the Doodlebug?? That unspeakable fiend! With Gem and Theo on board the story begins to feel thematically like a Heinlein juvenile...Like "The Rolling Stones", or "Space Cadet". But your STYLE is all your own! Wondering if Gene is going to get to play the romantic hero......or if the twins are going to save the day...? Staying tuned 'til CH. 40.... -

"Since you're about to die anyway, I see no reason why I should,'t reveal to you the fatal weakness in my plans..." Whenever you're tempted to monologue.....just remember the evil geniuses brought down by this very action.....:) Regarding crazed but brilliant leaders and ferocious sergeants, I always had a soft spot for Sgt. "Deathwish" Drang from Harry Harrison's "Bill, the Galactic Hero", famous for saying to his recroits "after you've been here awhile, you will start to hear rumors that I killed and ate the last recruit that gave me any trouble. Those rumors are true." Somehow I doubt the twins; parents will be so very pleased with how the twins running away was handled. Never mind the aborting of a multi-million mission.....Jandolin's going to want her kids right NOW if I know moms....:) Things are looking very scary for Piper and Emiko..... -

I could say that I'm not scared because says he won't kill his Kerbals...(generally...unless he really just has to...) but that kind of reminds of people who say "Why should you worry about catching tomorrow's program? You KNOW the good guys are going to win!" Not really the bleeding point, you know? So yeah.....VERY scary teaser pic! I'll try not to panic again..... -
These are super! Still trying to get my thoughts clear enough to do another...so far commercial jingls are about my speed...(Grav-ioli, we love gravioli...) and they aren't going anywhere, so I'll put on moar koffee.....

I got ambitious and overeager so I went ahead and posted "Music to Launch By" as a new thread before seeing mention of a poetry/song collection already. Oh well... -
This thread had it's origin in Just Jim's ongoing 'Saga of Emiko Station' (which is far, far from over, and getting further from over even as we speak!) You need to read it. It's ok. I'll wait. Awesome, isn't it? and when Jim intro'd a sinister sentient rover vehicle, KSK was inspired to pen this: _______________________________________________________________________________________ [(included with the author's encouragement...that does count as permission....doesn't it...?) Ohhhh - he's been a mad rover on Bop's rugged shores. Spent all his sanity, gobbling down ore. Now nickel ain't bad but blutonium's best. Blowing up Kerbin t'was only in jest. And it's no, naaaaay, never. No, nay, never no more, Will he be the mad rover On old Bop's rugged shor] ________________________________________________________________________________________ So I proposed we HAD to start a thread in Fan Works of KSP inspired songs! an KSK and Just Jim agreed, it was a great idea. No. seriously, they really did. Honest! Ummm....where'd they go...? oh well.... So.....without further ado....(or would that be much ado about nothing..?) In the town where I was born, lived a Ker-r-bal with mighty brains, And he thrilled us with his plans, to go soar-r-ing in rocket planes, So we built the KSC, and with Doc Von K to set the pace, We collected delta-vee, and we built the first step into space! We all live on the first step into space.... First step into space.....first step into space....(repeat) And our friends have all signed on, many more of them than we've got ships, So we build them night and day, to accommodate that many trips, As we blast into the sky, carried on by our guts and wits, You can't win unless you try, even if you blow yourself to bits! We all live for that first step into space... First step into space.....first step into space...... (repeat) Now the Mun is all we see, and we'll ge-et there.....eventually! Out from home we Kerbals race, on our fir-r-st steps out into space! We all live on our first steps into space.... First steps into space....first steps into space....(repeat as many times as you can get away with.) (sung to a popular song by Paul McKerman performed by the Keebles. I forget the title....) Before anyone says anything, yes I know the second verse contains an instrumental break...but most of us don't travel in the company of a military brass band. It's ungodly how much they eat, and they tend to get inappropriate on long road trips. Just saying.

This is GREAT! We need a thread of KSP SONGS now, if there isn't one already! Where'd I hide my staff paper.. In the town where I was born, lived a Ker-r-bal with mighty brains, And he thrilled us with his plans, to go soar-r-ing in rocket planes, So we built the KSC, and with Doc Von K to set the pace, We collected delta-vee, and we built the first step into space! We all live on the first step into space.... First step into space.....first step into space....(repeat) I'll add verses and start the thread if someone else doesn't beat me to it. -

....Wow..... I'm trying to picture being a mom receiving a call from an ashen(but sheepish) faced Nasa official....."Uh, ma'am..about your missing children.? Well I've got good news and bad news...the GOOD News is they haven't been found for sale on the internet,,,," The kids ran away to Mars..... Every Mom's worst nightmare, right..? So glad I never had any..... At the moment anyway... Visions of the short story "The Cold Equations" swimming in my head now.... I would SOOO be raising my kids to be sports stars or rock musicians at this point...... Before I completely forget about the story that brought all that on.....I LOVE THIS STORY TO PIECES!! A lot of my favourite SF based songs, (the kind you sit around cold hotel function room after midnight singing 'til dawn...yeah, I'm a 'filker'...), are on the theme of lovers separated by the years of space travel...they make me cry a lot. At least it's just years, and not decades in this case. A reunion is still possible. Ummm....it is, isn't it? -

AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! (Sorry...I panicked.....) Thompberry is reminding me of Donovan....from the movie "Donovan's Brain", not the guy who wrote "When You Go to San Francisco", though HE's kind of weird in his OWN right....this guy is actually downright menacing! I'm getting scared for Piper. It was one thing when he was obsessed with abducting Jandolin Kerman, but now his motivation is cold, inhuman vengeance....:O Cold? No longer having a living body with all it's personality driving hormones, he's become a heartless thing, less likely to be driven into errors by feelings. And he has access to the cutting edge in exploratory tech..... I may panic again..... -

No worries about the lack of dramatic tension this chapter....It makes a great interlude watching Kerbals do what they do best! Great to see the kids already trusted with helping raze the old tower, showing them doing what KIDS do best! Besides being too cute for words.....! Congratulations on TOTM! -
I would imagine that at some point in the evolution of life on Kerbin, there was an extremely dense barked species of tree. It would have resembled an evergreen or palm of some type that would periodically lose all it's fronds or branch-like needle clusters becoming at times no more than an upright spike. Native to hotter climates, this tree would've drawn up large amounts of water in spring, to use during the summer, and also create nutrition internally, because the tree's inner chemistry mixed it's sap with the water and ground minerals to produce a nutrient broth. Interestingly.....in the right combination of soil conditions, liquid concentration, tensile strength of the individual tree's bark and the volatile properties of the trees own natural sap....a stray lightning strike would produce a rather spectacular natural missile, and a forest fire result in a fusillade to rival the most ambitious Terran fireworks displays. Combine this with the Kerbals' love of fiery explosions...(their eye structure suggests a nocturnal creature in their ancestry, contributing to a tendency towards heliotropism) ...their natural durability....(tendency to survive falls, crashes, explosions, which probably also explains their natural optimism)...and one could easily imagine early Kerbalkind adulthood rituals involving riding these natural rockets into the sky. (Maybe 'Kerman' is not actually a family name, but a title given to any Kerbals who have launched themselves in this manner....or by more modern methods...and lived to tell about it.) It's been theorized that man invented the wheel by watching trees fall over and rolling downhill. With trees doing far more exciting things on Kerbin....is it any wonder the wheel came much later? And with much more glorious ways to reach high places....wouldn't the ladder also be a late development? -Crystal Mace, BS (Durned right it's BS..) PhD (You know this one, right...?) in my paper delivered before Committee preceding my sudden (and completely unjustified) dismissal.
