That's J.J. Abrams in a nutshell. And yeah, we're all tired of this "impossible scenario yet still saves the day" stuff. We all love TOS because it was so original and revolutionary (everything else is kind of meh) but what Hollywood outputs today is just plain walrus droppings. Seriously, can anyone think of a director or company that tries to make original, creative films? Christopher Nolan, maybe, but I can't think of anyone else.

This is a very bad experience on console
Mjp1050 replied to jdub's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (Console)
Whaaa...? The Wii U is way behind both the PS4 and Xbox 1 in terms of hardware, if this chart is any indication. It's a last-generation console! The Wii U has 2 gigs of RAM, but the official site recommends at least 4, and according to the CPU's Wikipedia page, the CPU is 32 bit. The Wii U does not have the hardware to play KSP. I'm all for introducing KSP to a wider audience, but at least wait for hardware that it can actually run on. -
I assume that you're referring to the blue dots on the left of a thread? A blue dot means that you have not replied in the thread nor read the most recent post. A blue star means that you have replied in the thread, but have not read the most recent post. A grayed-out star/dot means that you have read the most recent post. The lock icon means that the thread has been locked by your friendly neighborhood moderator, so you can't reply to it. The arrow means that the thread has been moved to another subforum. Hope this clears up a few things!

Awww... I don't have a PS4 or Xbox 1. Can I still enter?
-
My analysis is that you're overthinking this waaaaaay too much....

What part/type of creations of KSP do you exploit/know the most about?
Mjp1050 replied to Columbia's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've always been partial to boats for some reason. I think it's because KSP doesn't have dedicated boat parts, so I have to improvise. It's fun. -
@stubedoo54, Welcome to the forums and to KSP! A lot of what you're describing are actually features of the final game, not shortcomings. Most of your complaints can be solved with a little practice and perhaps a look in the Tutorials section of the forum. Actually, there is. Go to map view, click on the place you want to observe, and click on Activate Navigation. Although you don't actually need the navigation if you have Map View anyways. Just head in the general direction of the survey area, and when you arrive, you'll see green text that says "You are now entering area RPHW72 Alpha" or something along those lines. Ridiculous, yes. Unachievable, no. All contracts are achievable with enough patience and a properly designed ship. It's part of the challenge. I took a look at your other thread, and I think Red Iron Crown has solved the problem for you. It doesn't seem like you are attaching the boosters to the decouples, but rather to the rocket itself? You need to put the cursor over the decoupler if you want to attach anything to it. You don't actually need to have pinpoint accuracy with the burn indicator. If you miss the maneuver node by a few seconds, it doesn't really matter, so long as you still burn for the designated amount of time. You'll still get to where you need to go. Though that control scheme does seem unnecessarily convoluted; I can see why you got frustrated. Heh. We all had that feeling when we first started the game. Again, I'd like to recommend you to the Tutorials sub-forum, particularly here for plane design. If they deactivated after every use, then you'd have to re-click them constantly, whereas the current system allows you to only click once to get to a new mode. This current model is an intended feature. KSP calculates physics on each and every part that you put on a rocket, so the higher the part count, the less FPS you get. There's no way around that; you'll have to learn to live with it. Anyways, I hope this has clarified a few of your problems. Hope to see you around!

The Grand "Imgur albums/links are broken" thread.
Mjp1050 replied to Bloojay's topic in Kerbal Network
Oh, and it looks like these changes are here to stay, according to this blog by the devs. Though there is some hope left: -
The Grand "Imgur albums/links are broken" thread.
Mjp1050 replied to Bloojay's topic in Kerbal Network
Same here. Every single album chopped in half. I would upload a screenshot but Imgur decided to make that impossible, too. (Sigh) What site do you use, then? I think we all may be needing an alternative. -
Stop solar panel auto deployment
Mjp1050 replied to stali79's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Are you using MechJeb? If so, go to the MechJeb Settings menu and click Disable Auto-Deploy. -
Yep, just an easter egg. It's always been there, actually, but 1.1.3 made it absurdly large.
-
Seconded. Part of the appeal of KSP is that all the achievements are self-enforced, and completing one of those is far, far more satisfying than completing a computer-generated achievement. Also, the PS4 trophies for KSP are here, and the majority of them are "land on [x]" or "flyby [x]", nothing noteworthy at all for experienced players. Adding these achievements would do nothing for gameplay. Sony and Microsoft both have an "all games must have achievements" policy that SQUAD and Flying Tiger couldn't get out of. They didn't put achievements in willingly, I don't think.

I'm genuinely curious. What is this "hailprobe" thing?
-
When you do, would this be of any assistance?

Weather? What is this strange concept you speak of, "weather?" We Californians have never heard of such a thing.
-
Question - can we also have non-KSP acronyms underlined? People keep using stuff like IIRC and AFAIK, and I've got no idea what any of that means.

Me: Just look at that spectacular mountain! I bet I'll have a wonderful view on the ground! KSP: Nope. So close, yet so far...

THE BARTDON PAPERS - "Cancel all previous directives."
Mjp1050 replied to UnusualAttitude's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
More of a Holy cow, this story is extremely well written in ways I did not anticipate shock than anything, if that's what you're worried about. -

Pale Green Dot : The story of the Planet Kerbin
Mjp1050 replied to Third_OfFive's topic in KSP Fan Works
I have to say, this is quite a well-written story. I'm really enjoying the satire, too. -
I'll be honest; I don't know about you.

6 of 10. Why would it be coated in ice? That doesn't seem practical with the amount of heat a 4km long ship would produce; it would just melt.
