My third* spaceplane ever: the Excelsior capable of ferrying 2.6 tons to LKO. Takeoff and acceleration are not really problems, not with two Whiplashes and a Rapier forcing it forward. I'm thinking I should invest in heat-resistant cockpits... The Excelsior gets to orbit with fuel to spare, and that payload can just barely squeeze out of the cargo bay. Re-entry is a bit of a hassle; the cockpit tends to overheat, so I intentionally tumble the Excelsior to spread the heat more evenly. It recovers quite well once I remember to take the SAS off of . And the Excelsior lands without breaking anything. It can't glide, though; it needs to have thrust or else it just drops. *the other two were prototypes that only managed to get suborbital.

For some reason, I decided it would be a good idea to land on the dark side of Minmus with absolutely no lights on my lander at all. It worked, somehow.

[SHOWCASE] Show off your ships/naval vessels!
Mjp1050 replied to THE NARWHAL's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Ships, you say? I've got a stock one that I'm rather fond of: I call it the Santa Valentina. -
Things that NASA never said at a press conference.

Woah... When did all this get added?

Well, I've encountered a game-breaking bug; I can't click on anything in my inventory. I won't be on until the next update, at least.

Part 3: The Beginning Ring. Ring. Ring. Ri- "Valentina Kerman speaking." "Val!" came the enthusiastic voice of Werhner von Kerman. "I hope the day is treating you well?" "Wernher, it's the middle of the night." There came a pause from the other end of the line. "Well... we're in different time zones, so, uh, you know that -" "Wernher," Val interrupted, "I'm on the Island Airfield; I can see the space center when I look out the window." Another pause. "Did you call me to check how your ISRU is functioning again?" "Uh...not necessarily...but yes, how is it faring?" he added, far too eagerly. "No differently since you last asked." She rubbed her brow. "We expect to be done refueling in the morning, I'll call you back, until then, goodnight." Val slammed the phone down with more force than was absolutely necessary. She returned to her bunk, pausing only to swear at a door handle when it stuck for a minute. * * * * * "Good morning, Captain," said Staxy brightly when she arrived at the bridge. "Did you sleep well?" "As a matter of fact, I did not. Wernher called again to ask about the IRSU." Val yawned. "At least we're done with that now. Where's Sonwin?" "He's outside planting a flag. Calwise is getting our coffee, before you ask." Good for him. I can't be professional without at least one cup of coffee, Val thought. She glanced out the window to see Sonwin fumbling with the flag. After a minute, he managed to set it up, and started to walk back to the San Elcano. Calwise chose this moment to enter with four mugs of coffee. Val and Staxy both grabbed one, and Calwise placed the third in Sonwin's cupholder. Calwise opened his mouth to say something, but Val raised a hand to forestall him. "No announcements until after coffee," she said, taking a sip. She lowered her mug. "Now, go ahead." "Well, Captain, we're completely refueled and ready to go," Calwise declared, puffing out his chest. "We're just waiting on Sonwin at this point, and - actually, no, he's here," Calwise pointed at Sonwin, who had just opened the door. "We can depart as soon as you give the word." Val put her cup down. "Take your seats, everyone. Let's weigh - Sonwin, the navigator's position is on the left. Your other left. Let's weigh anchor, interns." Sonwin once again hatched an overexcited grin as he pushed the throttle as far as it would go. "Captain, we're holding steady at 40 meters per second," Sonwin announced, and Val nodded her approval. "All navigational systems are online and operational," Staxy added, and Val nodded again. "The anchor weighs 30 tons, according to the manual," Calwise stated, and Val slapped her forehead. "Is this your first time at sea, Calwise?" Sonfrey nonchalantly grinned over his shoulder. "Indeed it is. Why do you ask?" came the reply. "Oh, no reason," Sonwin replied, still grinning. "It's just that we've a long way to go, so you may have to learn some nautical terms along the way." Calwise nodded. "Seems reasonable." Sonwin turned to face forward again, only to find Valentina glaring at him with her arms crossed. "What?" he protested. Valentina said nothing, but raised an eyebrow, and turned to face the front windshield.

WOOHOO! I FINISHED! My times can be found here.

So, Bob and Bill are absolutely terrified while driving along a flat expanse at 64 m/s... ..but are completely fine dangling above a 35° incline?

Stage 1 - 12:20 Stage 2 - 20:03 (the car got stuck and I had to wrangle with the friction sliders to get it operational) Stage 3 - 12:35 The car flipped, gave me a heart attack, and lost two ladders and a light; but luckily it landed on its tires. Stage 4 - 10:29 Stage 5 - 10:52 Stage 6 - 14:45 Stage 7 - 7:56 Just in time, too. The sun set behind the mountains a few minutes before I finished. Total Time: 1:28:58

You know what they say: go big or go home. At 27.44 tons, I believe that my car is the biggest. You may all go home now All electric, too. I hid about 10 of the Z-4Ks in the hull.

Curse Client/Steam Workshop?
Mjp1050 replied to Arpoky's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
@Julian. Right click on the KSP desktop icon, then click Open File Location. Or, since you're using Steam, right click on KSP in your library, click Properties, then go to the Local Files tab and click Browse Local Files. You'll get something like this: Put the mods in the folder labeled "GameData," and they'll run when you next start up KSP. I hope this helps! -
This thread could not have been timed more perfectly. I was cleaning out my closet, and I discovered three old games that I loved during my childhood: Flight Simulator 2004, Flight Simulator X, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. Let's see if I can get them running on my Windows 10 rig, shall we?

@NoGameNoLife, I don't know about the Xbox, but if you have Minecraft on your PC, you may want to check out this thread:

The Probodobodyne OKTO2 Solar Speed Challenge
Mjp1050 replied to Triop's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Fun fact: if you push A and D really, really quickly, you get a lot of speed. 166.7 m/s. -
In that case, it's not Unity that's the problem. Unity 5 wasn't introduced until 1.1

@Fryer Mike, have you checked https://mods.curse.com/ksp-mods/kerbal? I was searching around, and quite a few of the mods have a .90 version for download.

Part 2: The Island "Twenty-four minutes and nine seconds," Valentina declared. "Not a bad time for a brand new ship. Sonwin, good piloting - " "Thanks, Captain." "- Staxy, good job with getting the computers operational -" "Than you, Captain." "- and Calwise, try to avoid setting anything else on fire." "That wasn't my fault! Wernher must've bought parts from Probodobodyne-" Valentina held up a hand, cutting Calwise off. "No lasting harm done, and only the door mechanisms were damaged. Just make sure it doesn't happen again, please." Sonwin raised his hand. "Captain, that slope is too steep for the San Elcano to climb. You want me to sail around to a smaller slope?" There was a pause, then Val decided, "No. This will do fine. Activate the wet mode and we'll climb it." She was met with blank stares from three faces. "Wernher didn't mention this in the briefing?" she asked, already knowing the answer. Staxy shook her head while Sonwin and Calwise continued to look blank. "All right, then..." Val's voice trailed off as she pondered what else Wernher had left out of the briefing, or if he had even held a briefing for the interns. It wouldn't be the first time he had forgotten to mention an important detail. She recalled that for the first twenty or so launches, no Kerbal went on EVA because Wherner had neglected to mention that hatches could be opened from the inside. That information had only been found when the old Astronaut Complex was rennovated and a slip of paper found that detailed how the cockpits actually operated. Val shook her head to clear her thoughts. "Calwise, above your head, there should be a large, red button with 'DO NOT PUSH' written on it. Do you see it?" Calwise nodded. "You want me to push it?" he asked, standing up to reach the button. "No," Val admitted, and Calwise froze. "I want you to flick the small yellow switch directly to the right of the big, red button. That's the one to toggle wet mode." Calwise flicked the switch, and almost immediately, a tremor ran through the ship as the engines sputtered, died, and came back to life with more power than a 1.25 meter jet engine was ever designed to handle. "Woah!" Sonwin shouted as he was pressed back into his seat. A great clattering noise came from the rear as Calwise was thrown backwards by the sudden acceleration. Or, more accurately, the San Elcano was thrown forwards as Calwise remained stationary. The San Elcano moved up the hill with all the grace and speed of a beached seal, but move it did, and notch by notch, the altimeter clicked up. Finally, the task was done. The San Elcano, despite the best efforts of gravity, reached the top of the hill. Sonwin let out a cheer, which Staxy and Val joined after a few seconds. Even Calwise, who was buried under a pile of cans that had fallen off the shelves, let out a moan. "We did it!" Val grinned. "Well done, all of you. We did it!"

Fade in/fade out on scene changes
Mjp1050 replied to Algiark's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, during the actual fade, you'd be rendering the VAB plus the black screen. The actual transition would be when the screen was completely black, which is basically the current loading screen. So you'd add about a second to the loading times for a cosmetic trade-off. Personally, I wouldn't go for this, because I spend a fair amount of time switching between the Runway and SPH testing stuff. It would just be a hindrance for me. -
Did you know that fairings work really, really well as pontoons? I didn't either! This thing is 66 tons and is supported by 4 fairings! This opens up so many possibilities for seaplanes and boats!

Hello, I have a question/thought experiment. I have two computers: A desktop with 6 Gb of RAM, an AMD Quad-Core A6-3620 processor, and an AMD Radeon HD 6530D video card, running Windows 10. A laptop with 8 Gb of RAM, an Intel i7-2620M processor, and an Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card, running Windows 7. Based on these specs, which of the two computers should run KSP more smoothly?

Uh, @sal_vager? It's December. Last month was November.
