  1. Thanks for the quick reply Cezary, informative and witty. I like your style 8) I digress, I figured out a relatively simply way to get this KEO satellite constellation to work, provided you have the MechJeb plugin. Here\'s my plan: [list type=decimal] [li] Send 3 Kerbs up into LKO and achieve a stable orbit [/li] [li] Burn into a KEO, record the longitude of the craft at the start of the burn[/li] [li] Record the longitude once the craft reaches apoapsis and begins the circularization burn[/li] [li] Find the change in longitude using Delta-longitude = Longitude_Final - Longitude_Initial[/li] [li] Send the boys back home and begin launching satellites into the 80km LKO[/li] [li] Using Delta-Longitude as a guide, sharp shoot satellites into desired KSO positions[/li] I\'ll post pics if the operation is successful
  2. I have a question about satellite constellations, particularly a KEO constellation like this one (starts at 3:44) How do you go about setting up a constellation like this, specifically in KSP? Waiting any amount of time between launches is useless because it doesn\'t matter when you launch into KEO, your satellite will always end up in the same place. This is because once the satellite reaches KEO, it stays in the same spot in the sky relative to Kerbin. The best ideas I can come up with are to send up all my satellites into a KEO where they all hang out in the same general location. Then send one high, one low and wait while they slowly move to the location in KEO that I want. My other idea was to put three into a LKO, all evenly space apart, and then send them up into KEO one at a time and hope the spacing keeps on the way up. The only problem with this is that I would need all the satellites to do their trans-KEO injection burns all at the same time. Any ideas on how best to do this?
  3. Not to sound melodramatic, but this game sparked my interest in rocketry and space, really sparked my interest. KSP led me to Orbiter which led me stories about the SpaceX, Stratolaunch, and Virgin Galactic. Being in college, these stories led me to my school\'s college of Engineering. Now I\'m getting a degree in engineering and will hopefully wind up working for a company like SpaceX or Virgin Galactic! Thank you Squad for inspiring me. I\'ll see you on the Moon!
  4. Why would too much RCS be a bad thing? Wouldn\'t that help stabilize the ship?
  5. I\'m really eager to see if someone can pull this off
  6. Just got a chance to fly it to the Mun and back. Great rocket I really enjoyed flying it. The only thing that I would change about it is adding RCS. RCS is really crucial once you get out of atmosphere. Plus it makes landing on the Mun significantly easier by aiding with minor adjustments once you get within 50m of landing.
  7. Yeah can you either upload a version without the 'advanced decoupler' or tell us what mods you used?
  8. Do you know what kind of Thrust-to-Mass ratio this thing has? And can you post a .craft file
  9. Impressive! I\'d love to see the craft file if you\'re willing to share
  10. Beautiful, I couldn\'t ask for a more Kerbalized version
  11. For those who have not heard of StratoLaunch, the company is putting together a team of companies to develop a unique solution to launching rockets. Basically, they are taking a huge freaking airplane and strapping a rocket to the belly of it. The Challenge: Build a craft as similar to the StratoLaunch rocket plane thing as you can. Bonus points for a craft that functions as Stratolaunch\'s would (i.e. the plane flies up to a cruising altitude, rocket decouples from plane and flies off into orbit and beyond). Anything goes in terms of mods or part packs. Reference Photo of the actual Ship
  12. Here is the first challenge we did: http://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/odzut/presenting_the_reddit_ksp_challenges_challenge_1/ Tons o\' fun
  13. You\'re my hero PakledHostage! I just tried a free return TMI using your math as a guide. I didn\'t get everything perfect but I still ended up returning back to Kerbin after a long trip. Don\'t mind the fact that I was pulling 32Gs on re-entry...
  14. Welcome to KSP! P.S. Love TG\'s project reality server!
  15. Harv said the option to choose different command modules has already been coded for 0.12
  16. How could you go wrong with a Big Dumb Booster?
  17. How can I give myself more fuel midflight? I\'m docked at the ISS right now, and I want to swing by the moon but I don\'t have enough fuel. I know I can change the mission parameters to allow for infinite fuel, but I feel like that\'s cheating. So can anyone help me? P.S. I understand that this question belongs on the Orbiter forums and not the KSP forum, but I don\'t really want to make an account on the orbiter forums. I\'ll take the thread down if need be, or I guess a mod will, just let me know.

  19. Part of the description of the 'How to' forum is 'General Tips, Tricks.' So I thought it would be necessary to have a thread where people could share the smaller things they have learned about KSP, orbital mechanics, rocketry, etc. Stuff that may not warrant creating a whole new thread, but still deserves to be said. So go ahead and share the small pieces of advice that you have picked up on the way. Corollary: Small questions that you don\'t feel need an entire thread devoted to them could be asked here as well I\'ll start: [li]When performing orbital plane changes, remember to continuously move the nose of the ship so you\'re perfectly aligned between the green velocity vector indicators[/li] [li]When performing prograde and retrograde burns, if you rotate your ship so the horizon line on the NavBall is vertical, you won\'t get as much vertical drift in the ship\'s orientation[/li]
  20. Yeah, its more of the fact that they strapped them to a C130, which is normally a strictly prop plane, that cracked me up. ;P
  21. In 1980 someone thought it would be a great idea to attach rockets the side of a C130. Jeb would be so proud! check it out
  22. I feel like you\'re trolling me, the best i got was 1330 m/s at 36km. I was throttled way back through most of the atmosphere. I kept my velocity at 100m/s under 15km and then I left the throttle right at the line below the 'E' in the word throttle on the gauge.
