  1. Today, I HyperEdited a 3000-ton E class asteroid into an orbit analogous to that of Comet Halley.

Then, I built the Giotto probe analog, and performed a close flyby.

Since the asteroids aren't as big as Halley, I had to perform a much closer flyby- and the object was still only 2 pixels across.

(Yup, that little, miserable dot that you didn't see if there were no target marker. I already cropped the image.)

Anyways, closest approach was 6.6 km from the comet. This picture was taken a few seconds before closest approach.

Speed relative to comet was 8.5 km/s. At least there weren't any pea-sized cometary particles to damage the spacecraft and destroy the camera.

  2. Hey, @HansonKerman, regarding videos:

(Just some friendly advice. Don't take this as an offence.)

If your computer can't handle the visual mods, you might want to try uninstalling the mods, than reinstalling them after Seeker is over.

Also try to film stuff in broad daylight; that is, don't film them when in the shadow of a planet or moon. It makes it hard to see anything.

You might also want to F2 them while filming. It takes all the nasty UI away. It gives a better aesthetic appearance.

You can also cut audio and video in iMovie with Command-B. You can then delete the unwanted bit. Make sure you already have the right item selected when you press Command-B, or else the video file may be cut instead! If that happens, press Command-Z to undo.

  3. Hi! After having completed my Gilly Elcano just now, I'm in just the right mood to be answering your question! :D :D :D

I don't play any games other than KSP, apart from an online PVP game called Shell Shockers (shellshock.io) where everyone is an egg holding a gun, and you have to shoot other people before they shoot you.

I first learned about KSP when I was watching space videos. I saw something from Scott Manley, watched it, then went to his channel to watch his other videos. There I learned about KSP.

I didn't give much thought to it at first, though, until one day a friend, who also happens to play KSP, said that I couldn't try it on his computer. So I set out, looking for a copy of my own.

And here I am, Orbital Mechanic, Viceroy of Duna, and Director of Planetary Science Operations; Ho Lam Kerman.

  4.

Hello. I'm done with my Gilly Elcano.

(Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of Val planting the flag.)

First 20km was with a sluggish rover that didn't have ion engines pointing down. Took a loooong time at 3 m/s.

Then the game mechanics, which don't like ground rovers, crashed it beyond repair. Val stood waiting for a replacement, this time with ion engines, for a few years. Poor Val.

    (Ta da! Brand new replacement.)

The ion engines didn't do much, unfortunately. By the time I was halfway across Gilly, I felt like I wanted to put this down for a few weeks. :/

So I did. Until I had this idea that the rover wouldn't take too much damage if I tried speeding and making a few hops, with monopropellant thrusters for attitude stability and for sticking to the ground when landing.

This was brilliant. I got the rover back to base camp within a few hours, IRL.

Anyways, that thing took quite a beating. Lost all three ions and a solar panel. Thank god I don't need much electricity once the ions are gone.

But I'm done. Gilly's quick if you jump, not if you don't.

    Back to the flag.

    (Screenshots of visited landmarks)

    Spoiler

The green monolith, which was actually surprisingly close to the other landmark.

    First spotted.

Got there. Found with the help of SCANsat.

And the next landmark, the unmanned lander mission to Gilly. It's identical to the landers that exist on every body in the inner system including Dres, but this is the only one that uses an Ant engine than a Terrier engine.

The lander, as seen from Val's window.

    Some other images.

    Spoiler

Rover: "I am worth your salt!" (Every one of my elcanos gives at least one opportunity to say that.)

I'll just go get my badge.

  5. Today I launched a Parker Solar Probe.

The rocket was way way way too powerful- I didn't have to use gravity assists, and even then the kick stage wasn't necessary- I would still have fuel left, even had I not used the SRB! But to keep with the launch profile, I stopped the biprop engine at 372 m/s to go, then staged and used the SRB for the rest. Fine-tuning will probably be needed. But the mission is going well. Passed Mun orbit at 37 minutes MET.

  6. Today I attempted to recover some lost progress on my Gilly Elcano.

    Let me explain:

Yesterday, as I was getting along in my Elcano, I reached a landmark, the landing site of a previous probe.

I stopped, and as I was getting out in inspect the probe, the rover started rolling back at 0.1 m/s: I forgot to put brakes on the thing.

I tried everything; getting back into the rover, switching to the rover, quicksaving and quickloading, everything. Nothing worked.

I then restarted the game. Tadaa, 3.1 km of progress, a night's worth, erased.

I loaded a quicksave, and now I'm 1.5 km from the probe. Not bad, but could be better.

Valentina, you don't feel anything weird, but please understand that your god is having a few problems.

Edit: I's not the fault of the rolling rover: I put brakes on, and confirmed that there was no movement whatsoever, then EVA'd. Everything still froze. But now I have a solution, that doesn't involve reckless game-breaking:

I use Hyperedit to land Valentina exactly above the rover. She is then fully functional and can perform normal EVA actions.
