  1. I have a very simple yet effective naming scheme: {Abbreviation of Agency}{- Additional information} + {"MEANINGFUL AND CREATIVE NAME"} + Iteration or random letter As you can see, the random and meaningful name of whatever agency I am playing as has a great impact on the naming of my spacecraft. There's also additional information added to the abbreviation, U stands for Unmanned, C stands for Crewed and so on. In the examples below, I am roleplaying as the "Tree Planting Society", a company that keeps an eye on the environment and focuses on reusable rockets. TP-U "Munissima" V (Unmanned probe, probably headed to the Mun) TP-C "Orion" X (Crewed vessel) TP-U "Butan" Z (Unmanned probe) TP-R "Buckshot" II (Unmanned rescue vessel, carries multiple capsules, thus called "Buckshot") I usually waste a ton of time coming up with purely artistic names for my vessels, it's part of the experience to have proper names for the ships and their mission. This creative naming process combined with practical and aesthetically pleasing naming schemes is wonderful.
  2. Ah yes, that was the issue! It appears that the partdatabase.cfg still listed the old tanks, referencing to the missing location you mentioned. Deleting it fixed the error. The issue with the Unity PartTools exporting corrupt .mu files still persists, but that's for another thread. Thanks for your help @Starhawk and @SpannerMonkey(smce)!
  3. Hello people, I'm having quite a few issues with the new PartTools for Unity. I'm trying to create a simple model and export it in .mu format, yet the .mu model is not properly compiled on export. There are no issues when exporting the .mu in Unity, everything works fine, yet the resulting .mu file is not readable by KSP or by Blender (when trying to import it with the .mu plugin it throws an error "Unrecognized format: 7654 5") I even tried downloading complete Unity projects with PartTools preinstalled from the following thread, but even that didn't help to create usable .mu files. (I used a fresh Unity project and exported the model that was included by the author @Beale, that didn't work sadly.) Whatever I try, nothing seems to lead to results. Did anyone encounter something similar? This is truly frustrating, I'm hoping anyone can point me in the right direction... EDIT. I'd like to add that I'm using a fresh install of both game and unity and that the textures used for the models are not saved in the unsupported .DDS format but as a PNG. (The more information the better I suppose ) Yours sincerely Roartal
  4. Hello there people, I've recently run into a game-breaking issue again and again. Some parts seem to not show up in my game. After skimming through the KSP.log I found that the game ran into issues while importing certain models on multiple occasions. I'd like to add at this point that I'm using a fresh install, there is no modifications (apart from a custom part of mine, which doesn't load either). There's also lots of errors regarding finding and loading models in respect to IVA models when using the Unity PartTools with the 2017.1 version, but that's another story. Here is an example error extracted from the log: [ERR 16:54:14.418] PartCompiler: Cannot clone model from 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT100' directory as model does not exist [ERR 16:54:14.418] PartCompiler: Cannot compile model [ERR 16:54:14.418] PartCompiler: Cannot compile part [LOG 16:54:14.418] PartLoader: Compiling Part 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT200/fuelTankT200/fuelTankSmall' [ERR 16:54:14.418] PartCompiler: Cannot clone model from 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT200' directory as model does not exist [ERR 16:54:14.418] PartCompiler: Cannot compile model [ERR 16:54:14.418] PartCompiler: Cannot compile part [LOG 16:54:14.418] PartLoader: Compiling Part 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT400/fuelTankT400/fuelTank' [ERR 16:54:14.419] PartCompiler: Cannot clone model from 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT400' directory as model does not exist [ERR 16:54:14.419] PartCompiler: Cannot compile model [ERR 16:54:14.419] PartCompiler: Cannot compile part [LOG 16:54:14.419] PartLoader: Compiling Part 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT800/fuelTankT800/fuelTank_long' [ERR 16:54:14.419] PartCompiler: Cannot clone model from 'Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT800' directory as model does not exist [ERR 16:54:14.419] PartCompiler: Cannot compile model [ERR 16:54:14.419] PartCompiler: Cannot compile part The models are inside the folders, it's a fresh install after all. Is there anything I could be missing? Full Log: - Moderator Edit -
  5. This song has been stuck in my head for days now, and it won't go away.
  6. Ohoho, today I did something rather nice. You see, after digging into a bunch of mods, thus boosting the ultimate 'Kerbal experience' tenfold, I came up with a marvelous little design. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the newest invention of Octahedron Industries: The OI-Deepcolant! Now, this is a very tiny, yet extremely efficient interstellar vessel. It is absolutely autonomous and requires no pilot, but houses a capsule for transportation purposes nevertheless. With a total of 16,000 Δv it can travel vast distances and remain operational in even the darkest corners of the galaxy thanks to four individual fission reactor cores. For the slim price of 372,266, this Argon-powered beauty could be yours! The vessel can be launched in one go (the ring section is completely collapsable), the tail section can be undocked and / or replaced for future missions. After crafting this starship I immediately made a trip to Dres and rescued one lonely astronaut from Dres (At this point, thanks to @Martian Emigrant for solidifying my plans for a rescue mission). Having done that I payed Duna a visit (like I initially wanted), some refueling later I finally returned the lost little kerblad back to Kerbin. I sure had a blast today!
  7. Well, there is certainly room for improvement on my side. The only item from space I have in my possesion is a small meteorite (which, upon closer examination, almost looks like a miniature version of ʻOumuamua), I didn't even have the chance to see actual manmade things that have been exposed to vacuum yet, I reckon that's something I should add to my todo-list...
  8. I created a rover which I wanted to send to Duna. When removing the protective shroud in orbit I realized that I had forgotten to put a heatshield on the module, thus I changed course and payed Dres a visit. Now my fellow kerblads are stranded on Kerbol's most lonely planet for enternity...
  9. Hello there people! Today I have yet another blender render for ya'll, this time I created Elon Musk in the shape of a fellow kerblad. I took a still image from the Behind-the-Scenes video made by National Geographics and tried to recreate the looks of Mr. Stark, all of which I did in Blender. This is what I came up with: You can use this as a desktop wallpaper if you want. Yours sincerely Roartal
  10. Hello people, This is my first post on these forums (thanks to the moderator who approved this post! ) I've been messing around with some modelling and rendering in Blender using the Cycles renderer, thus I have come up with a nice little scene. We can see a brave kerblad on the surface of Ike, gazing into the vast empty space of the Kerbol system. In the background you can spot Duna, the most ferruginous orb that is known to kerbalkind. I'm not sure whether or not that suit would protect our green little friend from radiation and suffocation, but for the sake of this render we'll have to take it for granted. Yours sincerely, Roartal
