  1. Bring your game back up and try holding down F9. Since you said it's a multipart station, I'm sure you have an autosave somewhere along the lines of creating it. I just hope it wasn't overwritten by another autosave. I manually back up my save periodically. You can just copy the save's folder somewhere else, and copy it back to restore. *Edit: PS, I think one of your docking ports is on upside down
  2. Everybody always posts their good designs. That's all well and good, but there are plenty of threads for that! This thread is for all of your crazy designs that, despite things like appearance and physics, actually worked! (Granted, "worked" is a relative term!) All types of craft are welcome as long as they 1) actually worked at whatever function you had in mind, and 2) look as though they really shouldn't have! To start things off, here's some plane designs that really, really shouldn't have worked! Here is this fine example of "unorthodox wing geometry". It flew surprisingly well! (In fact, all the planes here flew well!) Going long with the right angles, these guys were a natural progression. Boxo: Boxo 2: This one I proudly dubbed the "RingaWingaDingDong" Not all of my recent weird designs have been planes. He's a waterwheel that worked just fine, but was slow and a little impossible to steer: I'm sure you guys have plenty to add. Show me what you got!
  3. I experienced something like that one time when I was playing around with infinite fuel from the debug menu. I had just negated all of my orbital velocity around Kerbol, and then this happened: Evidently, I found the Kerbal hell. After ending that flight, I noticed that Kerbin had a taken on this peculiar albedo.
  4. So, is a Kerbol escape infinite points?
  5. It's pretty amazing how much velocity you can gain from gravity assists. That's the only way Voyager was able to get as far out as it is. There was a launch window where they were able to just chain the gravist assists, one after the other.
  6. Holy crap Rastgen! Nice shooting there! How many tries did that take?
  7. Alright. Here's my go! Launch vehicle was the simple launcher pictured above. After multiple tries, here's my best: 631.4m (Wasn't on the ground yet with the 629.8 picture) and right on the shore of the horn, so 7 points on the informal scale. Show me what you got!
  8. It's a lovely summer's day at the KSC. If there were birds on Kerbin, they would be chirping. Bees aren't implemented yet, but had they been, they would be buzzing. They guys flipped a Rockomax Poodle over, and as rumor had it, it does make a fine grill! Looking out at the green expanse that surrounds the KSC, Jeb gets an idea! Solid fuel lawn darts! Goal: To "throw" your uncontrolled "dart", and get it as close as possible to the island airstrip. (For the new folks, it's on the island right off the coast from KSC) Rules: There must be no means of controlling your "dart" once it has been released. ∙Fins with control surfaces are fine, but no command pods/probe cores/anything on the dart than can manipulate said control surfaces. Once you launch, it's hands-off. ∙Your "dart" must be based upon either an RT-10 or Rockomax BACC Solid Fuel Booster, attached to an aiming/lanching vehicle of your choice. (see figure 1a) ∙Each dart may not contain any means of thrust other than the single SRB. This includes all engines, liquid and solid fueled, RCS equipment, etc. ∙Throwing the dart will be accomplished by igniting said SRB and decoupling it from your launcher. ∙Your dart must be "thrown" from either the KSC runway or launch pad. (Again, for the new folks, when you do, you will then use the [] keys to switch vessel to get to your launched dart) ∙Stock parts only. Most mods disallowed, except for those that do not effect gameplay outside of the VAB/SPH. (Think SubAssembly Saver/Loader, Crew Manifest etc. I don't use anything beside SubAssembly, so I'm not really in the best position to determine if something gives a person an edge or not. Please use your best judgement.) ∙Scoring will be in two categories. The first is based on proximity to the airstrip, and will be broken down into broad, somewhat arbitrary score zones. A second exact distance will be used for the leaderboard, and will be described below. Figure 1a Scoring: Scores will be determined by 1 of 2 ways Simple: (Higher is better) A bit more informal, and a little less commitment required for this category. Just build a dart and go to work! Direct hit on the airstrip is 10 points. (See Figure 1b) Anywhere on the 'horn' of the island gets you 7 points. Anywhere else on the island is worth 5. General vicinity of the island is worth 3, and the general vicinity of the archipelago is worth 1. (See figure 2b) Fig. 1bFig. 2b Exact: (Lower is better) Optional exact scoring will be based on distance from a kerbal or a part that you will need to place at the front door of the observation tower at the airstrip. (See figure 1c) How the part or kerbal gets there is up to you, and is exempt from the mod restrictions. (Just being used as a marker) As your dart approaches the island, double click to select as a target so we can see your exact distance. (See figure 2c) Fig. 1c Fig. 2c POINTS LEADERBOARD: 10: Rastgen Kerwin 7: distanceoh, Kisel, SmallChange 5: 3: 1: EXACT DISTANCE LEADERBOARD: 1. Rastgen Kerwin - 93.4 2 Kisel - 104.7 3. SmallChange 631.4 4. distanceoh - 692.5 5. (∙Final additional fine print catch-all rule: The goal of this challenge is to have your dart completely uncontrolled. Please have your entry reflect this, with good faith and sportsmanship in mind. If it comes up that there is some exploit I have forgotten to explicitly forbid or an entry turns contentious, a vote amongst the challenge participants can be taken to determine an entry's eligibility.)
  9. Just watched the beginning, clicked through the tutorial stuff. Mostly Skunky talking about where the stream is going. Sounds like the plan is to launch a channel with an official KSP program, and a set schedule of community streamers doing their own shows. Really, it sounds like an awesome idea. I think maybe Skunky focused a little bit too much on the minutia of application process and the details of programming instead of just doing a promo for it, but that was probably what he's been knee deep in for the past couple weeks. Makes sense he'd talk about those aspects. I'm looking forward to it.
  10. I have nothing to contribute to this thread, other than my admiration! These are amazing!
  11. Jool, on accident. Yeah, really. One of my first craft, after taking a loooong break and then picking back up at .18, to get a good Kerbin escape just happened to get a Jool encounter. Had just enough fuel left to get into an orbit, but it's so far out Jool is just a dot.
  12. Reinstall in a different directory, pull what you need? Im not sure I understand the question completely though.
  13. I suppose there could be an "Infinite Fuel" category, and that would really become a nuanced competition... Maybe so much that it would be better as a different competition. I was kind of worried people were going to be using that... No good way to prove they aren't. Oh well. This is a pretty honest forum.
  14. Yeah, this challenge could be named "SRBs due crazy stuff when they are running on fumes". With that. I had been trying that, but with a little crown of Sepratrons on the end.. Scratched that design, redid and got pas the 20K barrier! I'm coming for ya, top 3! Like Jason said, I too expect diminishing returns with this design, but I'm going to see what I can expand it to! **EDIT** Holy cow.. That run cruised up to 223,721m with zero thrust after the 30 second mark! **EDIT 2** Ha! Over 25 gives me the #3 spot, I believe!
  15. I, probably not so subtly, try to bring up space related conversations at work in the vain hopes that they will lead to an opportunity for me to try to teach them orbital mechanics.
  16. Or, upload to Imgur, resize as you like, and just copy and paste the the code under thing that says "BBCode (message boards & forums)" into the body of your post.
  17. If your lander was a big monster, it might be getting wobble preventing you from going back to the space center. If a craft wobbles too much, the game interprets it as the craft moving, and won't let you exit unless you end the flight (if you can't get it under control). I've build a big ramp that does 3 m/s sitting still.. :/
  18. I think there is a huge difference between including weapons in KSP, and people building weapons. Why do people build weapons? Because there is a somewhat limited list of items you can build with tubes of explosives that shoot fire out them end of them, and most of us have logged at least 100 hours in this game. With no career mode, we're left to our own devices. We're playing with little green men. Sometimes, you're gonna make them go "Pew Pew".
  19. 51) Better autopilot. Last time I hit space bar, I didn't go to the moon.
  20. This thread was truly epic. Competition for the top spot was insane. I look forward to seeing what happens in round 2! (I don't know how to spaceplane very well, so I might be sitting this one out, though)
  21. I just read OP's edit on his first post, and I retract my statement about not believing him. I really, really doubt a scammer would write that many honest sounding replies. OP, best of luck in getting a copy. I hope you are able to save up some here and there. (PS, there has been a lot of stuff happening on the forums lately, so I think everyone might be a little touchy.)
