  1. Ok, I'm only serious about the rules. The rest is joking, but there are a few post here where it is obvious that they did not read the op.

There's nothing to this thread other than you being a prick, really.

Sorry for being so blunt, but it's true. All posts like yours do is discourage new players from engaging with the community so they feel left out. Maybe they were going to ask a question but didn't because they thought they'd just get laughed at for being a "noob", etc. You get my point.

I work at a place where we are pretty much all gamers, I can safely say that around here, the FPS kings don't even touch a game like kerbal, not even in their spare time. Their spare time is devoted to watching frag videos, utlimate headshots etc.. They are a different breed to be honest, and this game will not keep their interest for long even if they do get around to playing it. They need fast paced action, zero bugs, more than rediculous frame rates... KSP just does not cater to any of those needs.

I'm a long time FPS player (10+ years) and that's not really true. You're referring to the Call of Duty audience instead of FPS players in general.

  2. You guys are acting like this is the end of all things KSP.

It's really not. You might get a handful of people making redundant threads but I'm sure you guys pushing using mechjeb and not actually learning how to play the game everything will be fine.

Also, on a side note, the irony of this is hilarious.

I agree, there's some really strong irony here when I look at the recent posts of some of these guys. I mean come on guys, you're going to get all uppity over some new people coming to the forums when you still rely on mechjeb to do basic orbital maneuvers for you? If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black then I don't know what is.

Getting more players is a great thing, there's nothing bad about new people coming and hopefully learning a few things from the game. Those who really don't want to learn will simply go away, I doubt anyone not interested in the game is going to make threads hating on it. I'm sure Squad appreciates the extra sales these youtubers bring in too - Nothing wrong with more money!

  3. Okay' date=' now you're just trolling the devs. You've been around long enough to know the reasons as given directly from HarvesteR yourself.

Bottom line, when faced with a choice between realism and fun, fun will always win. It's just not fun to wait hours for orbits. There's a host of other reasons as well, all stated by HarvesteR here on the forums and in live streams in the past. This is his universe and his laws of physics. These are fundamental things that will not change.

Now, for the rest of you, if you guys can't accept this and move on, I'll have to lock this topic as it's only going to devolve further.

    Cheers!

So why not make modding planets more accessible so those of us that do want it can have it? Forgive me if there's some technical reason as to why that can't be done, but it seems to make sense to open planets up to modding as much as possible.

Also you could easily add higher warp speeds. And physics isn't my strong point, but aren't orbital speeds also higher if the body is the same size of Earth? Like instead of just over 2km/s it's about 7km/s instead.

  4. But Kerbals are 3x smaller than humans, so technically it balances out somewhat

But the planet's gravity is exactly the same, so I think it is not ridiculous to assume the planet would also not be made out of an impossibly dense material.

  5. I don't think you all realize just how big Kerbin really is.. It's one of the single largest maps I have ever seen in a game.

It would be big if you were playing a normal game, but this is a space game, and for a space game Kerbin is small. Kerbin is smaller than the Moon, to give you an idea of how small it is.

  6. No, 1:1 planets aren't going to happen, ever.

In addition, it would just make the game a thousand times more difficult to detail and make planets for. Right now, a 4096x2048 color map is enough to give some nice detail for a Kerbin-sized planet 600 km in radius, but a planet 6000 km in radius? Unless you want a pixel to be the size of some small countries, you need to have MASSIVE textures, which would in turn make the game's size increase twentyfold...

At least make planets more open to modding then so those of us that do want 1:1 planets can have them then. Considering mods are what keep games alive, you should make it as open to modding as possible. The new game database system should help with making planets moddable if I understand it right.

You people can tell me to "go back to Orbiter" all you like - KSP and Orbiter are fundamentally different games. They both feature space and that is the only similarity. I don't like having "lolorbiter" thrown at me whenever I suggest anything that could make the game a bit more realistic. No, I don't want a super realistic space simulator, but to suggest that the gas giant should not only be as big as our Earth is not ridiculous.

  7. With the technology available, we can send rockets and landing craft to the Mun and beyond using automated guidance (probes) for command modules. Therefore, it is not ethical, moral, or even rational to utilize Kerbals to crew these ships, especially considering the high rate of failure that has been experienced.

How do you justify the sacrifice of so many Kerbals in your space program? Why do you continue to ask (or force) our people to make the ultimate sacrifice?

I have not yet sent a Kerbal into space. I use probes exclusively. This saves Kerbal lives. And, if at some point a horrible tragedy occurs that makes the probes become self-aware, and they return to take over Kerbin, then I for one welcome our new machine overlords.

(Yes, this post was made tongue-in-cheek.)

I don't justify it because I've yet to kill or strand a kerbal in my main save in 0.19. It's more satisfying to put kerbals on other worlds. Also when 0.20 comes, I assume probes can't plant flags, so that's another reason to do manned missions.

  8. A little harsh. Intake spamming is cheap, but it's also the most efficient way to do things right now. I'd rather put more intakes on than more fuel. This challenge allows stacking intakes via bicouplers, so at least there's more of a mass penalty to having lots of them. Based on stuff of his I've seen, I think it's fair to say pinolallo is better at making spaceplanes than most people, intake stacking or not. If you can get a spaceplane to orbit with fewer intakes per engine it's probably fair to say that plane stands a better chance of still working in future KSP versions when the aerodynamic model (and hopefully intake and jet mechanics) get rewritten, but that's all speculation and in all likelihood we'll all have to figure it out all over again. It's not just the intakes that are messed up right now, even with only one intake per engine a fast plane can get to nearly 2000 m/s surface speed, which is very nearly orbital if you're flying east.

You're exploiting a broken game mechanic, it is by definition an exploit.

  9. It looks nice, but it's not as functional as some of the alternatives. Briton here, we're planning on outfitting our carriers with drones mostly. They can do pretty much anything the F-35 can do, just with smaller payloads. We'll retain a fleet of F-35s on the new QE carriers, but for the most part it's going to be drones.

This is the drone we're using:

  10. Ever been to a costume party?

Or a convention where people dress as videogame characters?

So some people who dressed as animals made it a "thing", they were probably mascots for something, and it spread.

People feel better when they are part of a group, safer, and they feel stronger as a group when facing adversity, such as the criticisms of others.

They hang out and they have fun.

And no-one said you had to dress up too...

I tend to judge a group by its majority. And it's just that the majority of furries I've met have not been that sort of person. You'd be hard pressed to find a furry community that isn't full of the weird ones.

But anyway, I think this argument is over. If the furries want to post here then I have no problem - Better they post here than everywhere else anyway.

  11. It would be biased, that is why I posted it...? :P People have the right to express themselves in whatever (Legal) way they want.

I doubt it would turn into anything sexual, after all that is against the rules. Might be also handy to point out that Furry(ism?) is not a sexual fetish, that would be yiffing if I remember my Sociology A level* correctly :S

*As a subculture is was to be studied comparatively with other subcultures and sadly yes did go into that much detail...

Ok, so you believe that you're a fox or whatever?

That's just called being delusional. It might not be as bad as a sexual fetish, but you should probably still seek professional psychiatric help.

  12. Well that's true, but I didn't say anything about people being allowed or disallowed did I ? ;)

Everyone's getting their say, that's what you want isn't it?

It's nice that there is a thread like this, it shows that people do care enough to speak up.

(accidentally clicked on edit and not on quote)

I'm just saying because to most of these people, nice is only worshipping the devs, anything else is bad or trolling.

  13. Well said ilikemoneygreen :)

The idea that you are only allowed to post if it's agreeing with what the devs say is a ridiculous one. It's a discussion forum, not a hugbox.

Yes, personal attacks on devs is not ok, but you are giving the impression that anything that's not "oh yes definitely, I agree, you're so great" is frowned upon.

I feel ashamed for the community for some of the posts on that thread :(

Just because its not always obvious what someone is doing doesn't mean that they aren't doing it. KSP is one of the best games I've ever played despite its early development status and the staff and moderators are always very open and helpful about what is going on. If they are currently unable to comment then there will be a good reason for it and patience is the only thing needed so people can get on with their jobs in peace.

Considering all we've had in the past few weeks is a screenshot or two of flags, I wouldn't say they're being very open.

They are still being very secretive about KSP Weekly and the streams.
