FAR and Mechjeb terminal velocity
MennoLente replied to Ditchbuster's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Indeed, mechjeb relies purely on math, and uses as little variables as possible, as there are not many provided by the game. The question that remains unanswered is: how small is the difference? -
That is indeed a forum post, yet it is not a fix. So you got it actually scanning? But enough of Kethane, how's KAS coming along? Can I go to bed now, and check first thing tomorrow, or should I hang 'round a bit and wait to celebrate the update? Or the day after tomorrow? Or another day in the next week?

Thanks mate, you just made my day! I was trying to make the thing work for 0.20, and then I tried that dev build, and it works so much better! No bug found yet, so reliable as well.

Atmospheric mapping and aerobraking
MennoLente replied to Kosmic Debris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you wanna do it like a kerbal, use the graphotron, downloadable on spaceport. I use it quite often, especially to gather data for the wiki and discover it is already there. When dropping probes, I recommend to use a lightweight probe, say <3t, parachute, 3 lightweight legs, instruments, graphotron. Change the graphotron's settings to have a larger resolution, adjust to taste. Than quicksave in case you forgot to change a setting. Than enter the atmosphere, angle not too steep, the idea is that you survive the drop, and when you touch the ground, save the graphotron's data, et voilà! And for the math, mechjeb calculates a lot of it. Perhaps r4mon, the mechjeb fellow. Nice guy, very helpful. If he doesn't know, than he knows at least who knows, or where to find the equations. link to mechjeb topic *click!* EDIT: Well, I know a part of the math... The drag equation of course! Why didn't I think of that before! the only unknown is the drag coefficient. I know how to calculate it for shapes, but I guess ksp uses different values. Would that be the those drag numbers in parts their cfg files? Hmmm... That would explain a lot. link1 link2 -
BobCat Ind. - Colonization, exploring and research vehicle
MennoLente replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Consider yourself lucky. I live in a land where if you want to donate blood plasma you have to give a test sample the first time, fill in a huge stack of paperwork, and what do you get for it? A muck, and a pen if you ask for it. Luckily prostitution is legal here, it is considered a real profession so you also must pay taxes and pay €70 to register yourself as freelancer at the dutch camber of commerce. Too bad I am male, and for male heterosexuals the demands are... Non existent. I'm a smoker, and a cigarette pack of 19 costs €5,80. It costs about €50 for an ID. Police checks ID's like it's a warzone. No ID or expired one day? €25 fine and a at worst a night in jail (and a fine). Health insurance is obligated, starts at €100 per month. You can't choose to have none, you automatically have health insurance and if you don't pay it, they send after a few months the bailiff and police to take everything you have exept for one bicycle, a chair and a tv. Rent is where I live the cheapest in the country, €300. Food is about 25% more expensive than in the States. Be happy not to live in the Netherlands. HOWEVER: In the Netherlands, if you donate money to anyone or any organisation, with nothing in return (no products, no service, no labor, nothing), you can subtract it (up to €90) from the part of your income that you pay taxes for. At least, when you can prove it when you do your taxes. So if donations were possible, all the dutch here could come to an agreement to donate €90 pp. That would give the community a boost (quite some dutch folks 'round here). I'd do it, if I have a part of at least €90 to pay taxes for, or even have an income at all. -

I always thought QA team just checked that everything works, so every major bug is fixed before release, and that we do the search for minor bugs by building the most stupid, impossible, GPU burning, CPU burning, RAM filling, Jeb blowing spacecrafts. You know, the bugs only real madmen can produce, the bugs I encounter when I play KSP when I should sleep. Why else are there bugfix updates? Or is both true, and lies the truth in between? Oh, and I had another question. Does the testing team also tests with mods, if so, are there already indications with mods will and won't work?

YAKS - Yet Another Kerbal Spacecow -
It could be useful if the rovers could be simulated in the background. I always get so tired of sitting for half an hour so see it trip over some air and explode just when I am about to quicksave. Or just to be safe, I let it drive 5 m/s whole night, to see the next morning it flipped upside down five minutes after I went so sleep.

Part generator Version 2.X release / open beta
MennoLente replied to Lando's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
No, I totally understand. It's great, it should be spread, and you should be credited. About posting my creations... I'm a bit, I don't know... It's between shyness and perfectionism I think. I only have the guts to post own work unless it's good enough, but I always think my own work is crap, so I don't post it. I'll try to get over my shame and start with something mediocre. Oh and I'll try to do some textures with some of my buddies. I'll ask them if they've got time to get around the table and design. But first, yesterday was our first wedding anniversary, so me and my wife are still tired because of our celebration, so it's time to sleep for me. Later! -
Part generator Version 2.X release / open beta

Tnx, mate. That will teach those "Yo people look at the part I made all by myself and it was very complicated stuff doing it all by myself" sort of kids! -
Part generator Version 2.X release / open beta
MennoLente replied to Lando's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
Lando, I have a question concerning copyright and legal stuff. I have no idea what the rules are exactly, but I think ethicals in this are important. For example: are you okay with partgen generated parts shown to the public on youtube, partgen generated parts downloadable on e.g. spaceport, as seperate parts or as mods? Or do you want people to give you credit as the creator? Are you ok with people editing the partgen created parts? I think it would be a good thing that everytime people show something you created, it would be polite to add to the description "Lando - PartGen" or something like that; it's the least one can do. So, what's your opinion on this? After all, I think I speak for all of us when I say you've done a great job, and we would like to give you credit for it, if you should want it. -
Dragon Rider Capsule [0.23 (2/14/14)
MennoLente replied to CardBoardBoxProcessor's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hush! Don't say that! Every modder needs pats on the shoulders from everyone, to get the motivation to create something better, and better, and better... Of course that's why I always tried at school to avoid getting an A+, it's too lonely and depressing at the top when you could have gotten a B, a girlfriend and a life. My point is that you've done a great job, you've got yourself an A+. Now go do more modding! Transcend yourself: stagnation means decline. Go for the next A+! -
An officially unofficial title for the recent unfortunate event.

Let me rephrase that: I am neither going to pronounce nor remember that, if you don't mind. -

2013 Jebocalyps, 2013 Kerbocalyps, 2013 Kerbolcalyps, Dark-Green Friday 2013, Black Friday 2013, KSP account massacre (see below), Friday Bloody Friday... But do not forget the (possibly related) previous event, before the ... ( <- the word we are looking for), the "April Riots", or "April Revolution". I'm not trying to pronounce that, do you mind? -
Well, for cases like this the Dutch have a saying that goes: "Beter goed gejat, dan slecht bedacht." Which means: Better nicked it good, than ill designed. So I don't care if he created it or not, but if he wants to export our beloved flacon to ksp, he'd better make a very nice IVA, including one very hairy kerbal. And why not downgrading the model a bit for the average system? If you finished IVA, I want to give it a try.
