  1. No, you're talking about 3 million m/s. Even if you could pack 30km/s into each stage with ion engines, you'd need 100 stages like that. Each stage would need to at least double the size of the craft, so even if your final stage was somehow 0.1 tonnes, the first stage would have to be measured in yottatonnes - larger than Kerbin.
  2. IMO any challenge of "Manned" (or "Kerballed") should exclude the use of command seats or stuffing them in service bays, because those are just loopholes to get around the whole point of the challenge - that manned capsules weigh significantly more than probes.
  3. I also like using the thrust limiter for landings, especially on very low gravity worlds like Minmus. It makes it a lot easier to find the sweetspot on the throttle to hold a steady speed.
  4. This is one of the things that I find really lacking in the stock game. There's no straightforward way to find interplanetary transfer windows without using a mod or external calculator. One trick is to put something in orbit around the sun just ahead of or just behind Kerbin, in exactly the same orbit. Then you can create a maneuver node from that craft to see where the window is. Only really works one-way though, unless you take the time to set up a similar thing near each planet before doing any return trips.
  5. Probably the Mun landing + return back in 0.12 or 0.13 when there was no landing gear, no small engines, no maneuver nodes, and no patched conics projection on the map
  6. The worst example I've seen is when you just have the Mk1 pod with heatshield and you try to set it to face retrograde on re-entry. It somehow doesn't even point in the right direction
  7. I think it works great for flying planes. Way better than the keyboard at least
  8. If you bought it at the KSP store, can't you do a transfer to Steam if you really want? Or was that a limited time offer?
  9. I don't know what's going on in this universe
  10. That was kind of terrifying to watch at 3x speed Also what is the music? It's super familiar, but I can't put my finger on it
  11. That would be a really weird, difficult, and utterly impractical way of attempting to cheat. With the two tanks right next to each other and very little fuel to move, it would take quite a long time to add any significant momentum that way, to the point where it would only be useful at all if you were just barely short of reaching orbit normally
  12. 0.005^3 * (19,210,500 + 13,147,500) = 4045 If you're going to ban Gilly for the ability to escape orbit, then Minmus, Pol, Bop, and maybe even Ike should probably get the same treatment. Of course then that only leaves Mun, Dres, and Eeloo as possible locations...
  13. I want to submit something for this challenge... In fact, a couple weeks ago after not playing for months I decided to do almost this exact thing on a whim - start from nothing, take 3 guys to the Mun, and come back. It took me ~45 minutes, but I went into it without any sort of plan and wasn't really rushing anything. The big stumbling block for me though is the requirement to land at the KSC grounds. Ever since the aero updates, I just haven't had the sort of accuracy to do that with any degree of reliability
  14. IMO you should just say no mods at all for something like this
  15. It doesn't look THAT crazy, but it also probably won't work
  16. Well, now you need to do the reverse and make an EVA LANDING from orbit!
  17. "ksp" has no vowels, therefore it is impossible to properly pronounce it as a word
  18. With the 1.1 update and its rework of the UI, maybe this is more feasible than before? I would really like to see more of the game's settings available while playing the game, without the need to quit all the way out to the main menu. Control mapping is the biggest one. It's a huge pain in the ass to get sensitivity, deadzone, and invert options set properly for a controller or joystick when you have to go through so many steps to quit and reload after each change. Graphics settings would also be nice, so that you could more immediately see the effects of changes
  19. In career, I test on Kerbin and eat the costs. There's some fun in doing it that way, figuring out the easiest/cheapest ways to test things and designing missions in a way that makes them easy to test each part
  20. This worked for me. It wasn't showing up at first, but after launching a capsule and reverting to VAB from the launchpad, it's there now
  21. How to cleanly cancel an accidental part grab 1. Accidentally click on something 2. Do NOT place it anywhere 3. Press DELETE 4. Press CTRL+Z
  22. I don't think those square steel tubes will make very good rotors. But it's not a Kerbal helicopter unless the blades are driven by jet engines
