  1. 44. There needs to be a really cool looking nebula somewhere in the Kerbol system.
  2. 14. Why can't we have detailed cities on Kerbin with Kerbals running about everywhere and trucks and cars moving about everywhere? 15. There needs to be a whole lot of differnt types of animals on Kerbin. 16. We need to be able to do interstellar travel.
  3. Nobody's interested in this? You can use your capsule in the design if you want. It's a one person capsule and remember, it's bouyant.
  4. What I mean is that SAS modules lock your ship as in place as they can and to rotate the ship you need to turn it off, but that often means undesirable rotation in other directions. I'm not very experienced at the game (my frustration from my badly running computer prevents me from doing as much practice as I'd like) and I was wondering if there is some way to set the SAS to allow you to override it with a key press but only on that axis and keep the rest locked. Say you hold down W, it would unlock the S,W axis but keep Q,E and A,D still? If you can't do you think this should be added in, even if it's with a bigger, heavier SAS module?
  5. I think moons should have themes if planets do. Moons have just as unique environments as planets. Minmus shouldn't feel the same as the mun and the same as Kerbin. They're vastly different bodies.
  6. Yeah, wasn't totally sure where to put it, but I thought challenge section was for in-game contests. This is all just fun with ideas.
  7. A trip to Mun has not ended as planned. After losing communication with KSC, one brave Kerbal has accidentally parachuted his capsule down hundreds of kerlometres from the intended target in the middle of the ocean on a small island. In many ways it resembles a tropical island on Earth, there are palm trees with koconuts but otherwise basically nothing edible to Kerbals. There are a variety of different types of trees and shrubery and even some reasonable strength vines (Probably not strong enough to swing from a tree branch reliably though). There is no permanent body of fresh water on the island. It's a tropical weather environment, but it's coming close to the end of the wet season. The kerbal has only the tiniest bit of fuel left in his capsule, but still has a little bit of food and supplies left over. Anyway, nobody knows where he is and he must get back to the KSC by himself on some kind of watercraft. Use your engineering and scientific knowledge to design a raft or other craft to get him safely home. He will need some method of propulsion, regular access to food and unsalty clean water, shelter, the ability to survive through storms, etc. This is a journey which could take weeks or more, depending on how fast your craft travels. You can describe how your craft works and/or post a picture demonstrating it. You can only use what's available on the island. Also explain how he gets what he needs to survive. Anyone be interested to give this a go? Just thought it would be fun, since people here obviously like designing things.
  8. It would be nice to have a customisable soundtrack option, just a section where you can put in your own music to have a chance to play during certain situations if you want. Honestly, I don't know why all games don't have that.
  9. That sounds like a really clever idea.
  10. I could be wrong, but I think what the OP meant to ask, though perhaps not in the correct terminology, is that would the forces of acceleration towards the Earth be diminished by the rotation. Not that the gravitational pull would physically be altered, but would the net force you feel change? I would imagine that under any plausible planet the effect would be minimal, but in a hypothetical indestructible planet put into a very fast rotation by magic, I would think the centripetal force could make the gravity seem to be significantly weaker. But also you might experience some noticeable Coriolis effects.
  11. Probably only worth it if the probe didn't get enough information about the area already. Otherwise seems like a waste when you could be looking somewhere new that might present new information.
  12. I'm surprised that your family would be able to afford a computer which presumably has enough power to run KSP (Otherwise no point getting it) and internet access, yet you can't afford a $25 game, even by saving up over time. I'm sure there is some way you could get enough money to afford it, even if it meant cutting back on something you normally get that you like, and if you can't possibly cut back on anything and can't get enough money to afford this (very inexpensive) game... then you seriously have much more important things to adress than whether or not you can play a particular game, like survival. Basic needs are more important than a particular game (and it's not like there's any shortage of free games out there until you can afford to buy one).
  13. That's not the problem with the horse armour thing, though if I call it was quite a bit more than 1 USD which was why people thought it was overpriced. It certainly wasn't offered in prior games either. Morrowind didn't even have rideable creatures (actively I mean). Mods are just unnoficial DLC, with enough method, you could replicate practically any DLC with a free mod. The problem with horse armour, despite not being value for money, is that it was released right away. Therefore, it was already developed before the game's release and should have been included in the price instead of being an extra cost.
  14. Yeah, also, the rings of planets are made of small pieces of glowing dust that swirl about when touched and a ship's gravity tilts as the ship does (as if it were in the ocean). Wall-E is certainly not hard scifi but a great movie. And Wall-E's design is fantastic and mostly could probably be built, fully functionally, with today's tech. It's actually quite an excellent example, I think, or more realistic scifi in this instance. I mean unlike most of the other robots, you can basically see every mechanic he uses, from how he folds his arms in to create a square, how they extend, how he gets power, how he lifts himself up with his wheels, how he compacts trash, how he compacts himself into a cube, etc.
  15. ...Well, that's a bit annoying. I mean I wouldn't use them in a war or something, but if it's safe for regular use, why not? People didn't stop using big ships after the Titanic sank.
  16. Why would 2 planets fall towards the sun they were orbiting just because they were orbiting each other? Why would their relation to each other in the same solar orbit change the solar orbit? Why would whether or not they were the same size affect this? Why would they have to be going at some unbelievable speed? Orbital speeds are simply dependent on proximity and mass of the objects. I don't see what makes it different from Pluto and Charon except that they would affect each other more equally.
  17. I think more important to sticking to science in scifi is to stick to the internal logic and canon of the world you create. It annoys me when daleks can only move on magnetically charged flaws and then we find out that they were originally created with the ability to move on any surface...
  18. I know hydrogen has been the cause of many firey problems in the past, but is helium really a plausible fuel for airships anymore? It's becoming so rare and scientists need it. Could hydrogen be used again in the future? I mean surely we've advanced our structural technology and safety standards since the 30's.
  19. Well I'm pretty sure it's quite possible to have planets and even stars orbiting each other. Pluto and Charon are kind of this, though obviously Pluto affects Charon a lot more than vice versa.
  20. Yeah, ultimately it's true, scifi is just a way to open up new storyline and thematic possibilities (And to look awesome), but just personally I'd like it if there were more sci fi movies that put effort into their science, real science is cool.
  21. i'm telling you, it's an invisible bioelectromagnet from a giant space worm going through the core of the apple that is Moho.
  22. Hm... that picture... maybe it is some giant mysterious life form that goes all the way through the planet.
