  1. This player is attempting to dock at a space station. To assist, I must put full thrust in every possible f@#$ing direction to ensure maximum stability.
  2. Hey everyone! I think this thread may have died, so I thought I'd bring it back. We can all get a pretty good laugh out of other people's failures as well as our own. So, to kick the thread off, my failure of today. I put Barzor Kerman on EVA and accidentally hit the spacebar, and as he fell away from the command module, THIS happened: Yes, Barzor has decided that hanging by his feet off the top of a rocket gantry is a fabulous idea. How kerbal of him... Anyway, let's get this thread back in action! Post your "oh s***," "whoops," "dang," and "kaboom" moments here! Have fun! Cheers!
  3. Yeah, I realized the same thing. I think I'll leave Moho alone for a while... I haven't hit Eve or Duna since before my reset, so I'll probably go after them in an hour or so.
  4. Just thought I would rant about my experience last night (around midnight, actually) I realized that in all of my travels, even before my 0.19.1 reset, I have never been to Moho. So, I thought, let's go! How hard could it be? Just for the heck of it, I built an enormous lander and spacecraft, as shown here: I have no clue why I built the landing module so big... I guess in my midnight sleepiness I thought it would be cool. Anyway, here is another image right at liftoff: After this, I got into orbit, boosted myself away with a Skipper engine, and started up my first stage of nuclear travel engines before I realized I hadn't taken a screen shot in quite a while. Here is the ship's first stage of nuclear engines: That last one wasn't very high quality, sorry. Anyway, once those fuel tanks ran dry, I dropped that stage and ignited my final rocket, also nuclear. Here is the ship (at its solar periapsis) with only the final stage remaining. Soon, I was in Moho's proximity. I started my retrograde burn... and ran out of fuel halfway through it So close... Anyway, just thought I'd have a little rant about my experiences last night. I'll spend some time today building something that makes a little more sense structure-wise (yes, I know that design was absurd). Cheers!
  5. I noticed that... That saved me a lot of annoying testing from always forgetting which was which
  6. Gotta hate when the Mun gets hungry... Exact same thing happened to my friend yesterday
  7. Yeah, getting hooked is a common side affect of this game others may include sleeplessness (from all-night interplanetary flights), dizziness (from looking at a computer for too long) and charred kerbals (from Jeb). Have fun!
  8. Nah, i actually meant it to be like that but I was gonna change it a little anyway
  9. FAVORITES Eve, cause it's pretty. That's all. Mun, cause Apollo. That is also all. Minmus, cause it's easier to land on than most people think and its gravity is weak, allowing for interesting hiking (or EVA) trips. DISLIKES Duna, cause in my old space program it took me about 67382156 tries to finally figure out "hey, nuclear engines work better!" and FINALLY get there. Moho. There's a reason I have only once attempted to reach this planet. Thank God (or whatever it is that Kerbals worship... probably Jeb) the mission was unmanned.
  10. Okay, so 0.20 is here, and we're all excited. I won't be able to update my game until Friday, so I need some feedback from people. Whenever I download one of the major updates (0.18.0, 0.19.0, etc.), it's always insanely buggy and occasionally causes my almost-ten-year-old PC to bluescreen all over the floor. My question is this: How is 0.20 as far as bugs and slowness? Should I update now, or should I just wait for the inevitable 0.20.1 with about 17,267,348 bug fixes? (Yes, I am looking at you, 0.18.0, with your insane amount of glitches left and right that left my computer on its knees begging for mercy) If it matters, my PC is a Dell Dimension 8300, running 32-bit Windows XP and 4GB of RAM. I think my processor is 3GHz but I don't remember offhand (it's not the computer I'm using right now). Thanks for the help!
  11. Just for fun, I occasionally use the super-old-fashioned method, back when I didn't know the maneuver nodes existed... Just point a little past the moon and throttle up, if you miss, you miss (This was back in my 0.13 demo days, so hurtling towards Kerbin after an apoapsis of roughly 12m wasn't a big deal)
  12. You mentioned that you like Portal. You have instantly gained respect from an experienced kerbonaut. Good job, sir
  13. I never used to rescue them. however, I've gotten a lot better at the game lately, so upon updating to 0.19.1 I restarted my entire space program. When I did this, I told myself that every kerbal I spawned counted, and that no lives would be lost anymore. I've kept up with it so far... Pretty proud of myself not gonna lie. I have begun developing some interplanetary transports, so we'll see how that goes
  14. Granted, but the meat is rancid and the bun is moldy. I wish for a large, terminator-esque, robotic version of Jeb.
  15. This is it... My Apollo-style ship, waiting on the launchpad for its mission to minmus. This is the first time the kerbals have traveled to Minmus since I reset my game. Here is the ship just seconds after separation from its final orbital booster. The service module turns around and docks with the lander, so that it looks like this. After detaching from the service module, the lander descends on its successful flight to Minmus! And as you can see in my signature, I got a new medal! I walked/jetpacked around for a while, so that I could get the land nav icon on there too!
  16. I know... Fairings would make my rockets so much sexier... I'll upload a screeny of my Apollo lander, it's pretty ugly xD
  17. Hey everyone, I recently started my space program over, with a brand-new save file and everything. I decided that this was the perfect time to design a completely new ship... a two-part lander, something I've never done before. Usually, my landers are a single part, with nothing left in the Mun's orbit. What I'm trying to do is develop an Apollo-style craft, with an orbiting service module and dockable/detachable lunar module. This always works pretty well until a certain point. Once I'm in orbit, I decouple the service and lunar modules, hoping to turn the service module around and dock it with the lunar module. What keeps happening, however, is that the decoupler stays with the [now detached and freefloating) lunar module... specifically, it stays right on top of the module's docking port, making it impossible for me to dock. Is there a way around this that I simply haven't seen yet? Help appreciated! Cheers!
  18. That moment when... You hit the launch button on your joystick... You see the first tenth of a second of flight as the SRBs ignite in a blaze of solid-fueled glory... And suddenly, your crap PC decides to bluescreen all over the floor... And you wonder... "If my computer bluescreened... WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING ON KERBIN?!?!?!??!?!?" You decide that a zombie apocalypse must have overtaken Kerbin and killed your computer somehow... And you finally come to the conclusion that the only solution is... MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR BOOSTERS!!! Story of my life when I first got this game, back in the days of the 0.13 demo
  19. Hey everyone, I've been doing a lot of rendezvous and docking in Kerbin Orbit recently (trying to build a new station, recently retired my old one) and I always end up making somewhat last-minute correction burns, because my navball doesn't enter target mode until I'm <100km away from the station. Is there a way to manually change the navball to target mode when I'm further away? If it matters, I use 100% stock parts, no addon parts except for the LAZOR camera mod (which is quite useful and interesting, check it out of the SpacePort http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/lazor-cam/ and http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/lazor-docking-cam/) Thanks in advance for the help!
  20. This is making me wish so hard that you could record video from the first-person view of a Kerbal...
  21. One of my nuclear long-range ships could probably do this... I officially have something to do on Friday
  22. Granted. It crashes on its inaugural flight, reenacting its performance at the Paris Airshow in '73. I wish for Jeb to fly a Boeing 747 with a giant SRB strapped on top.
  23. That's a beautiful-looking station. Like you, I'm also in the process of designing and implementing a new orbital friend, as I retired my previous one a few days ago. Mine orbits at about 350k, will hopefully have 2-4 orange tanks, and will serve as a launch station for future missions (I use nuclear engines for all interplanetary missions, no exceptions). Right now, the station can only hold 6 kerbals, but I'm hoping to raise that to 14 this weekend. Just felt the need to rant to a fellow kerbonaut with similar objectives. Best of luck to you in your new designing, testing and resource collecting process!
