New space center facility?
Gargamel replied to KingKerb's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
There's already a building for that. New buildings would have to be associated with a new game play mechanic. Otherwise you're either messing with something that isn't broken and doesn't need messing with, or just making eye candy. I'm ok with eye candy. -
As mentioned, compression would be required. Maybe if you're a tricky enough video editor, overlaying the various attempts in a single shot.... But I'd be curious to see how it goes.

It's all about managing expectations. Whether it's a plushie you bought off a random internet site, or a job you're applying for that you have no real qualifications for, it's usually best to keep your expectations low so you won't be disappointed. That way, I'm always pleasantly surprised at any outcome.

The site doesn't have to be well know, it just has to be hosted somewhere, just not here. Yes, you can embed videos if the forum supports that particular format. The only way to reliably find out is to try in the test thread.

Docking in 1.7 feels faster, maybe?
Gargamel replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I have seen reports that the frame rate in 1.7 is noticeably higher than in past versions. -

Hi Artoban! We try to maintain English as the primary language on the forums outside the International subforum. If you do have to post in Russian, pleas use a translate app to make an attempt at a translation. People will be more than happy to work with you that way. -
what do the dish antennas in the tracking station facility track?
Gargamel replied to alien_wind's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Not true. They follow the Nyan cat on people's loading screens across the world.- 15 replies

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I believe the legality of a private enterprise launching to space ends once you leave the airspace. If you get clearances to launch through your airspace, then the majority of the hurdles should be beat. Have your years here been prepping you for some stealth colonization mission we should be aware of? Party Pooper. -
Well, it does come from the Daily Fail.

Some posts from the Rant! Thread were moved here, as that thread was quite old. In the process, @DAL59 is now listed as the OP of this thread, when it was actually @p1t1o. Just mentioning that to clear up any confusion. It's a side effect of the way the forum lists posts. So, on that note, as @Vanamonde mentioned here: Let's keep this one civil, and on topic. We don't mind some commiseration to your fellow forum members, but what we don't want is a chat thread, with multiple discussions going on at once. If a discussion does 'erupt' from a comment, just drop us a report. We'd more than happy to prune out the relevant posts into a thread of their own, so they can continue the discussion, of that topic.

This I can't agree with, as you are basically describing technology rather than intelligence. Take a look at Srinivasa Ramanujan. While he might have had some basic education, he had exhausted any formal math education by the age of 11 or so. He then proceeded to re-invent a lot of the mathematics that took centuries to build, and from there invented new types of math that are still being studied today as cutting edge. Education/Knowledge etc is made by a need. If you are "wolf boy", your knowledge will extend to what keeps you alive, as that is all you have time for. If you then compare a 20 year old wolf boy to an average 20 year old, and compare their survival skills in the wild, wolf boy will be far more knowledgeable in this aspect. Average person does not have the need for these skills, just as wolf boy has no need for learning how to write a spread sheet. If there is a need for a certain type of knowledge, be it through environmental pressures or personal interest, then a single human can come up with great things, independent of society if needed. If you have your basic needs (food, shelter, clothing, etc) accounted for, then some individuals can let their minds explore wherever they wish to go.

Youtube and I believe a couple other popular sites are supported for direct embedding. But since the forums don't host any media, you'll still have to have it hosted someplace else, and linked here. Hope that answers your question.

Now that I've got that crossposted mess cleaned up, we can focus on solving the issue, instead of having to chase the discussions across multiple threads. We'll start off by asking for some logs. We really don't know what is happening to your game until we see what it is doing: But @<noname> 's suggestion is a good one to start with, albeit from the wrong OS. Make sure KSP has all the permissions it requires to run.

What feature do you want for 1.8?
Gargamel replied to KingKerb's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Overlapping threads have been merged and cleaned up. -
Nope, but I guess it does sort of apply here...

There are at least a couple moderators with prior warns. In my case, they asked for applications a while back, and I said to myself, why not, I like the place, and I wouldn't mind helping out, and I've modded on other forums before, so why not? Waited a while, and I had honestly wrote it off as not going to happen, but I was ok with that, as I was just going to keep enjoying the forums while I was here, and then I got the invite. Was actually surprised.

To what? In this case.... 27 minutes apparently.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
So let's say we have a metal (steel) rod, horizontal to the ground, about 200mm long and a diameter of about 20mm. At each end of the rod there is a 50mm Diameter flat plate (think barbell), of some thickness that doesn't matter. Resting on this rod (but captured, the rod runs through the inside of the ring) is a ring of the same material as the rod, of let's say 2mm thickness, but this can be a variable if needed, and an Inside diameter of 50mm, and an OD of 55mm. As we spin up the rod to higher RPM's, the ring starts to oscillate back and forth along the rod, as it also starts to spin due to friction with the rod. The ring reaches the plates on the ends, and bounces back at the same speed it entered, or there about. The ring seems to move faster as the RPM's increase. The rod is perfectly level, and in the hypothetical, there are no other forces acting on the rod/ring other than gravity. Consider the system to be contained in a vacuum for the hypothetical. Are there "simple" (I use that term loosely) equations that would describe this motion of the ring? In the real world example of this I encountered the other day, RPM's of less than about 200 would lead to irregularities in the ring's motion, and did not have a rhythmic motion. RPM of about 800 led to a oscillation of about 1 second per length. Anything over about 1500 RPM led to what was basically a centrifugal fan at one end creating enough air flow to keep the ring stuck at one end. Without the effect of air flow though, I posit it would have continued to increase in oscillation rate, but only to a point, where loss of friction would have slowed/limited the rotation of the ring. The motion of the ring seems to be caused by it not resting perfectly perpendicular to the axis of rotation. At first, if it was slightly off perpendicular, it would start moving slowly (there is no lag time in the RPM changes, they are practically instant), and then continue to angle it self as it moved, gaining lateral speed. Upon bouncing off the flat plate on the end, it would reflect at the same angle it entered with. I had a picture of this in the CNC machine I encountered it, but later realized a silver object on a silver background really doesn't show the details needed for a good example of the description. -
Sounds more like a shower thought to me.... so I will merge it.

In that case, the best thing to do is report the new thread, and in the comments for the report, add a link to the old thread. That way we can review if, in fact, they are similar threads, and we can merge them. A thread being old doesn't mean it's dead. There are a lot of old threads that have lots of good info in them, and pertinent on topic 'bumps' are completely acceptable. That orange box warning a thread is old doesn't say "Don't post here", it just says to consider whether it is appropriate to post there. Case in point, @Lisias did bump a 2 year old thread today, and it is exactly the type of necro/bump that we like to see.
