For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I LOVE Benfords law. It's a great way to see if a group of numbers follows a natural distribution. If a set of numbers have been faked, then there will be a propensity to use numbers more often than they should be. Tax auditors can use it to see if the books have been cooked. -

How can I make the game load up faster?
Gargamel replied to 21603862's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Really not sure what disbaling network adapters is going to do here. KSP loading times are pretty much tied to to hardware specs. Game taking a while to load? simplest solution is to buy a better computer. You can close out other programs that may be using resources. BTW, what is a long time for you? Mine routinely takes 15-20 minutes. Moved to Tech support. -
Texture glitch?

While there are mods that do that, it's really hard to not agree that a couple more planets in the stock game wouldn't be a bad thing.

Gotta wait for the first Hype train to pull out of the station before the next one can arrive.....

Cafepress would sell a tshirt with a dead squirrel on it if they thought it would sell. I've never been impressed with the quality of their stuff, I'd prefer another vendor.

Please upload the various logs to a file hosting service like dropbox, and link them. Giant walls of text can cause issues for some users on various platforms. -
Just a reminder, discussion about illegally obtaining copies of KSP is not allowed on the forums. Some posts have been removed or redacted.

A lot of posts from the Release Date Announcement thread were merged with this one, in order to keep the discussion on topic as possible.

Since we continued to post off topic stuff not relating to the new release date of the Console Update, and insisted on continuing to fracture the discussion about the console update, I have pruned any OT posts not relating to release date specifically, and merged them with the general discussion thread. This is to benefit ALL users, as they now won't have to hunt all over the forums looking for info. If you have come here looking for an ongoing discussion, it can be found over here now:

Xbox Things Needed
Gargamel replied to Mikenike's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I have no idea about keyboard or mouse, I don't work for Squad/TTi, so I have as much insight into the development as you do. I don't see why they couldn't be supported, it does make sense, but like I said, I'm not a KSP or console Dev. -

Ksp won't start
Gargamel replied to Roopie44's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Did you use a launcher? If so try launching the game from KSP.exe directly. If that doesn't work, if you got the game through steam, try validating your files. And if that doesn't cut it, we'll need some logs and more info about what's going on. -

Playing devils advocate to that, if you program in what is a "bad" trajectory, by default, it will know what is a "good" one. And now you are just basically playing bumper bowling down a prescribed flight path until your rocket makes it. And now, you've made a standard auto pilot with a really bumpy ride. I think, though, if you start it off with "Up is good", and "head east" type constraints, basically what most 'normal' people would understand of basic rocketry, it would be a fair assessment of the AI. You would then be able to reduce the number of completely useless iterations, as even a child knows "rocket go splash" is bad (but exciting). Give it a starting direction, and let it learn to optimize the ascent profile. Give it goal (100kmx100km orbit) and a score (amount of dV left), and let it run from there.

That's point of machine learning. You give it goals and a 'reward' system, and it learns by making progressive advances over many many many iterations of attempts. The first launches will go nowhere, but eventually it will learn to go up, and then sideways, and eventually it will figure out the optimum path for an orbital ascent. The problem is not the AI program we are attempting write here, but KSP itself. The various learning algorythms take a lot of iterations to work correctly, and KSP is definitely not a good program for doing this. The load times are slow, and it can't run simultaneous launches. I doubt I have done a few thousand launches myself, and that's probably the amount where it will get good at "Up is good".

Xbox Things Needed
Gargamel replied to Mikenike's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
As far as we know, there is no plans for adding mod support to the console versions, at this time. As such, I'm going to move this over to the Suggestions forum.
