Any veteran tips for the docking inept?
Gargamel replied to djr5899's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I really didn't expect this to get bumped when I linked it the other day, but now that it has, I see it's in the wrong place. I'll just move this over to GamePlay Q's. -

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It's been many years since I've seen the episode, so I don't remember the method they had to use. Well, that's not why they used ballast, designing a boat to sink is a bad idea, unless it's intended to come back up eventually. The ballast was used as a counterweight to act against the 'rotational' force caused by the wind on the sails, keeping the ship upright and the sails firmly in the wind. But the type of ship in question was much much smaller, and would probably not have had keel ballast, more like a thicker, deeper keel than similar oar boats of the same size. But if the ship was built to normal, sane, standards, the boat would not have sunk like that. Improbable, but not impossible though. -

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

Ah, I believe they were able to recreate that in Mythbusters. The only video I can find of this is behind a pay wall sadly. Not necessarily. There are types of wood that are denser than water, so if you built your little skiff out of one of these (I don't know why you would, they are a real pain to work with, trust me), and the overall buoyancy of the materials that compromised the boat were just right, once the displacement was overcome by the leaks, it just might sink like that. https://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/top-ten-heaviest-woods/ Check out the Specific gravity of most of these. This is a site I consult from time to time. -
The page wrap caught me out....

Apparently that bug had become a feature, and now users who learned that behavior are having issues unlearning it.

It's yet again time for our Threads of the Month Awards, for April 2019! We'll start off, fittingly for April, with a touch of the absurd. Is a taco really a sandwich? @HelioCentric had this random shower thought, and the discussion bloomed into a thread of it's own, where discussion of what constitutes a sandwich, how a sandwich is legally defined, and the linguistic/cultural differences on how food is prepared, led us down a road of wit and mayhem: Next up, we look at @Kronus_Aerospace's replica of Howard Hughes' Goliath Spruce Goose. This gigantic beast is beautifully done, exquisitely detailed and quite historically accurate. The eight propellers are so big they have to be powered by 3 jet engines, each! Take a gander at this: And now we come to a wonderful post by @4x4cheesecake. In this thread, he took the time to write out a complete guide on the various ways to install mods. This tutorial will be very useful for helping users with modding related questions: Next, staying on the topic of mods, we come to @Nertea's Restock Mod. Nertea is not the sole author of this mod though, there is a long list of contributors included in the OP, they all deserve thanks for their efforts. Restock is an effort to normalize the artwork in KSP, among other things, and the result is impressive: Over to our challenges department, we find @panzerknoef's Air Superiority Competition. In this competition, users design and build various Air to Air combat craft (using the BD Armory Mod) and then are pitted against each other. Everyone involved seems to have a great time, and the videos are fun to watch: And rounding out our Threads Of the Month, @Tyrion Spacedwarf asks for some help with a custom controller setup. The community offered up many useful solutions, not only with the physical controller, but with mods and play styles to help fit Tyrion's needs: As always, the Threads of the Month will get pinned in their respective sub-forum, and tagged with "TOTM April 19". And once again, a thank you to @adsii1970 for the creation of our wonderful TOTM badges. TOTM winners can place these badges in the thread, in their signatures, under their beds, wherever they'd like. If you find a thread that you feel is of such quality that it should be featured in our TOTM, then click that "report" button in the OP of the thread, and let us know you nominate it! We, as moderators, don't get to see every thread out there, and without your input, these awards can't happen. So nominate those threads!

There's your clue.

One click to like Second click to remove. Apparently the joke fixed an underlying bug feature in the reaction system, where some users on some platforms had to previously double click to add a like.

Give this thread a read, it might help you out some: -
Module Manager You can't, not without pretty much disabling every mod you have. It only shows up two days a year. It's tolerable for that time frame.

It's yet again time for our Threads of the Month Awards, for April Fools 2019! In this edition of TOTM, we'll take a look at recent postings that have shaped our forums in a positive manner. We'll start off these awards by looking at @JPLRepo's take on how flat should your runway be? He takes a deep look at the workings of level runways, and how it is a myth that one is required. Continuing this vein, he delves into how bumpy the KSP runway is, and the efforts to fix that: Then we move onto the wonderful release of KSP version 1.2.1! @UomoCapra here shows us all the new and exciting features that were added in this update, listing off the thousands hundreds dozens of changes in the change log: Now we move onto the modding section, where @TriggerAu brings us this glorious new mod, Kerbal Alarm Clock. It's rife with features that every kerbonaut should have: Following this up is another classic thread. This one really doesn't need an introduction, you've all seen it, loved it, enjoyed reading it: And we round out this months awards with a post from our venerable poster, @SQUAD. In this thread, Squad goes over what the team has been working on recently, from new fairings, to bug squashing, to 4 new landing gears! They even communicate directly with Elon Musk!
