  1. That was my thought too. Who’s got the current record for accidental resident of space?
  2. Iirc the atmospheric temperature was established arbitrarily and not algorithmically. But there’s been a number of versions of this over the years so I’m not sure what the current version uses. And I really don’t think night and day make a difference in the game. But the best way to get atmospheric data would be to generate your own. Use the thermometer science part, slap it onto an aircraft or whatnot, and get sample readings every so often. There are mods that can help you log the data into a csv or whatever. But, to be honest, I don’t see a real application for this. Density will play a far greater influence on reentry temps than ambient temperature. And KSP’s heat shields are so over powered that unless you’re coming in with interstellar-esque speeds, there’s not many scenarios that can’t be solved with some Oberths and gentle aero braking. But hey, you have your own reasons for asking, hopefully you’ll find the help you need.
  3. As cool as this is, I’m just waiting for Betelgeuse to blow, hopefully in the fall or spring. That way we get it daytime and nighttime.
  4. I did a little research a few years ago into building & coding my own quadcopter a while back when I got into 3D printing. And what I remember from this is the math gets really screwy with 3 rotors vs 4. 4 rotors translate much better into the up/down/left/right/forward/back inputs that most humans would input into a controller. Whereas 3 rotors require a good bit of trigonometry to translate those same inputs. The reason you see a lot of 6 rotor drones is because in a situation that gets overly complicated for the flight controller, yon can just assume a worst case scenario and default to a 4 rotor setup and use the extra 2 rotors to maintain lift. Now as to why we don’t see many 3 rotor helicopters…. We solved 1 and 2 rotor configs a long time ago, but figuring out 3 rotors with analog controls is a little difficult, and by the time digital has enough power to do the job, the market wouldn’t support the development of a new heavy lift 3 rotor chopper. If you’re going small scale, you’d go electric since most of those use prop rpm’s and their resultant torque to steer, and the software was already available for that. But then you’d probably go 4-6 rotor for added redundancy in case of failure since the autorotate capability of this size of craft is very limited.
  5. Casually standing in the cockpit, handholding a camcorder, at Mach 15.
  6. It’s well known that he had an account here before getting the ksp2 role. I’m sure he’s been back under that name quite a few times, but seeing the hatred and vitriol the “community” has thrown his way, I don’t blame him for not sticking his head up. And he’s got more reason to be upset about this debacle than the rest of us combined. What’s more important in life, losing $50 on a video game that kinda works, or having your career tarnished and possibly ruined?
  7. Overlapping threads have been merged
  8. National association of dyslexics?
  9. In the hopes of finally consolidating all the threads on this topic into one, please refer to this thread for future discussion:
  10. That sounds like a recipe for favoritism and arguing.
  11. And it doesn’t have to be fast or optimized, just a whole poo ton of storage for it. My home base production line, which is basically 1 of each item, has supercomputers and a few other items dumping into a sink. Quick wire, which comes in by belt, and a dozen of so other products which come in by train all get dumped into a sink.
  12. I’ve set the creatures to defensive only. They won’t stand there and let me harvest their organs, but they won’t jump me out of the blue either. My basic factory is making everything I need, keeps a storage box full of each item. I’m looking at setting up the aluminum process, which means I’ll need to start making dedicated facilities for all the other components. I have the electrical for it, ~120 turbo fuel generators with capacity for 3x that, so that’s not an issue. I just don’t want to dive into such a major project when I’ll have to tear most of it out come 1.0.
  13. Whole bunch of off topic stuff was moved here:
  14. No... No I didn't. I said exactly what I meant to say.
  15. That’s…. That’s pretty much what I said there. ….
  16. The 500’s started before the scrapings did, much earlier in the spring. There have been numerous reports of similar traffic from other sites across the net supposedly. But yes, they do seem to spike in the mid to late afternoon EST, which is about when the majority of the world’s population is asleep. Means the AI bots are at least courteous enough to try to bother as few people as possible.
  17. Yeah, that was pointed out, my apologies, but next time specify which set of mods, that way we know who should be insulted.
  18. Ah, ok, fair enough. Carry on then. :D
  19. It was not removed, it was locked due to the normal off topic bickering that erupts in most of these threads. The thread is still there, and a second one is open. We would rather like to see people stop making false claims about the moderators.
  20. So it appears that the CKAN team made a minor back-end change to a mod for the good of the mod itself and the CKAN environment. This change was an arbirtrary change, that can easily be reveresed if requested/needed. I have that correct, yes? Ok then, it seems this issue should be taken to a PM chain so you guys can work out the details that the public really doesn't need, or want, to know about. Perhaps some sort of documentation from the team to help avoid this type of situation in the future might help too. And let's remember, it's usually best to start with a PM to ask a question before posting it publicly in the forums with the appearance of implication of malfeasance. That often won't lead to clear answers and just draws in rabble rousers to stir the pot.
  21. And then complaining about “over moderation” when things turn violent. Our rules have never changed, in fact, I think we’ve lightened up on them some to let people vent their anger. We don’t need 28 threads discussing the same thing. We don’t need arguments merely for the sake of belittling others. We don’t need threats of physical violence against the devs and others who aren’t carrying pitchforks over this issue. We don’t care what your exact opinion is, hell, we probably share it. We’re liquided off too. There’s no image to protect, it’s done and gone. That ship has sailed. But what we do need to protect is this community. And given the quality of humanity that has shown up here over the last couple months, I’m starting to lose hope. This is the most we’ve ever openly talked about our moderation policies in general. For privacy reasons, we normally ask that we discuss this type of stuff in PM’s, as Deddly mentioned above, But there are enough stresses on the community in general right now that we’ve opened up some to hopefully make people feel safer about the moderation team. And as Deddly has also mentioned, this is way off topic for this thread, I’m not even sure what thread this is to be honest, but we’d be glad to discuss what we can in another thread. The “ask the mods” thread would be a good place to start
  22. I really don’t think this argument is appropriate for this thread.
  23. WHO LEFT THE DOOR OPEN AGAIN?! MARTHA!!! THESE DANG KIDS ARE BACK IN THE POND AGAIN! ~shuffles off to find a broom and a fishnet-
