  1. Tried out a new Shuttle design using the new high gimbal engines. Flies better now.
  2. You can find it in the Steam Workshop. Actually I've somewhat "finished" with the scenario, and even with the new power update, the fact that certain things are still illogical (i.e. you don't need ANY power source to power the 3D printer...like, what? Also, harvesting Hydrogen to make Methane seems a useless enterprise because the rovers currently work without fuel!), and there's no definite "escape plan" (i.e. go to Schiapparelli Crater etc.). Still quite a beautiful game though, graphics-wise.
  3. And I thought my framerates were terrible! Nice job though. We seemed to have the same flight profile for our R7, except that my Kerputnik's orbit wasn't as elliptical as yours.
  4. Launched my Kerputnik-1A (in celebration of Sputnik's 58th Anniversary today), with kOS. Might as well share the kOS code I used. print "10". wait 1. print "9". wait 1. print "8". wait 1. print "7". wait 1. print "6". wait 1. print "5". wait 1. print "4". wait 1. print "3". wait 1. print "2". wait 1. print "1". wait 1. lock throttle to 0.65. lock steering to up + R(0,0,180). stage. print "Launch!". wait 1. stage. wait until altitude >1500. lock steering to up + R(0,0,180) + R(0,-15,0). print "Pitching to 15 degrees.". wait until altitude >4500. lock steering to up + R(0,0,180) + R(0,-30,0). print "Pitching to 30 degrees.". wait until altitude >9500. lock steering to up + R(0,0,180) + R(0,-60,0). print "Pitching to 60 degrees.". wait until stage:liquidfuel < 1930. lock throttle to 0. stage. print "Strap on Boosters Jettisoned.". lock throttle to 1. wait until altitude >31500. lock steering to up + R(0,0,180) + R(0,-75,0). print "Pitching to 75 degrees.". wait until apoapsis > 85200. lock throttle to 0. lock steering to prograde. print "Waiting for circularization burn.". wait until eta:apoapsis < 25. lock throttle to 1. print "Burn.". wait until stage:liquidfuel < 580. lock throttle to 0. wait 5. stage. print "Kerputnik 1 is now in Low Kerbin Orbit!". //end program
  5. It's rocking the RottenTomatoes site at 94%, pretty rare for a Hollywood spacy sci-fi film (good ones averaging only around between 75-85%...exceptions are cult classics like 2001, Alien, etc). I think the last good rating that reached 90's was "Edge of Tomorrow" at 90%. EDIT: Ooops my bad, Cuaron's Gravity got 97%. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_martian/
  6. There's also ALSJ. You can even browse the photos via Mission Timelines. https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/
  7. I checked the forum and found only two entries about Bohemia Interactive's "Take on Mars". One discussion ended in 2013, and the other is a blog entry that discussed the game. So I decided to start a new thread about Take On Mars, considering that it's in Beta state now. The most recent update was made just several hours ago, and added power requirements for devices and power sources, in the form of solar panels and an RTG. The new electrical cables are quite nice. The following screenshots are from "Take On Mars" running a scenario called "The Only One", a scenario not unlike Mark Watney's predicament in the novel and film "The Martian" (the following text comes from the Scenario Description) Due to a failure during its final descent, the Expedition One Mars Lander was destroyed on impact leaving no survivors. As far as NASA knows... You have survived the crash. What will you do? Remember: Scavenge the crash site! You no longer start with anything in your inventory, so you have to find everything to survive at the crash site! Been playing this recently and it's a very "Mark Watney" ish experience Which is cool because I've read the book and recently watch the movie too. I bet Watney would have given up a finger to have had a 3D printer in the hab.
  8. SCI FI... The kid in me will say this: But in recent times, I've grown to love the Pegasus from BBC's Journey to the Planets, which is quite similar to the Hermes from "The Martian". REAL: It would have to be a toss-up between the LM and the Gemini Capsule.
  9. While I never use MechJeb (well I did, before, sometime 0.23 ish), I got stuck with a fatal dilemma in my career a week ago, so for the first time, I had to use HyperEdit. I feel deeply, deeply, ashamed about it.
  10. Sometimes I have to blink at my screenshots to make sure I didn't mix them in with my real world photos of these aircraft. (FSX with Acceleration running Steve's Fix, with Xtreme Prototype's X-15, the older version, terribly buggy but still a beauty to look at)
  11. The GF and I watched it last night (I live in the Philippines, so we get to see it two days earlier vs. the US release). I have to say that I love the book more (of course right?), but as a fan of Science Fiction films, especially ones based on "real science", I think this was a lot better than Gravity and Interstellar. I give it a 9/10. And yes, Matt Damon played the Mark Watney character excellently.
  12. Non-wheeled. Walker/climber type of explorer robot.
  13. Launched and landed a Skylon-style SSTO, with reasonable payload bay. Originally, I only used 2 RAPIERs, but they were simply not enough to put my 30+ ton ship into LKO. So I had to add a single J-X4 at the rear. Remaining fuel and oxidizer once achieving orbit is between 10-15%. But if you nail the re-entry trajectory squarely, you don't really need any more fuel, because you can dead stick it in like the Shuttle.
  14. Flew my Apollo-style rocket. Now at Mun. Will create another album for the return trip later today. http://imgur.com/a/s9kn0
  15. Built yet another "proportional" Saturn V-style stack (more like a Nova now), in celebration of the 46th Anniv of AP11. All stock parts. All flight behavior and mechanisms are very much like the AP11 flight profile. LOR, with the LM having a separate descent and ascent stage. LM extraction after TMi is very similar to original AP11's. 16. http://www.asteroidday.org/ "Asteroid Day is a global awareness movement where people from around the world come together to learn about asteroids and what we can do to protect our planet, our families, communities, and future generations. Asteroid Day will be held on the anniversary of the 1908 Siberian Tunguska event, the largest asteroid impact on Earth in recent history. You can now sign the 100x Declaration yourself, right here." https://www.change.org/p/help-make-the-100x-acceleration-of-the-discovery-and-tracking-of-near-earth-asteroids-real
  17. So can it be a theory, that the MVAC Chill initiation had anything to do with the overpressure? Somehow this naggingly reminds me of... "13, we've got one more item for you, when you get a chance. We'd like you to stir up the cryo tanks." - Jack Lousma
  18. Can someone please tell me what one of the flight controllers said... At around 2 minutes 5 seconds after liftoff, you hear "...the _________ has begun..." What is that phrase/word? Thanks! In my ears, it sounded like, "...the vat chill has begun..."
  19. That may be indicative that they had a delay in summarizing the data available on what caused it. Must've been a tricky problem
  20. Here is 116 frames of the explosion in an IMGUR album. Thought maybe some might like to play in-house sleuths. http://imgur.com/a/FLNmq
