Engine balancing issues in ARM?
vger replied to a2soup's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Would it really be that hard to add a 'difficulty' setting into career mode? With each increase in difficulty adding an extra amount of realism to the game? With that you could satisfy everyone. -
What's next for KSP and NASA
vger replied to Dimetime35c's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If they're going to do anything next... and granted, NASA's approval isn't even needed for this: Rosetta probe analogue mission. It's coming this year, and it would be pretty easy to adapt the asteroid system to work for comets. DO IT! -

Did it show on the orbit map? Or was the only way to find it by spotting it visually? -
#SaveTheMagicBoulder [PicHeavy][Spoiler]
vger replied to MalfunctionM1Ke's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Was that necessary to make it spawn? Unfortunately I didn't get into deeper space until the 'magic' was removed. The last thing I was doing before the patch was taking grav readings over Ike, so I have a probe in low orbit over Ike currently. -
Has anybody experienced any changes in vehicle performance as a result of the ARM update?
-
Are you talking about new easter eggs on the planets? Or just the asteroids. It's quite possible asteroids harbor them, but you'll only find it on a small percentage of them. It'd be cool if magic boulder showed up as an asteroid now.
-
Oh boy, now I'm wondering if the KAS electromagnet would be able to pick up a 'landed' asteroid.
-
Surprised they didn't mention it in that quote. Recycling Centers will reduce the pollution index.

I was cringing even when child Spock began pummeling another kid. And yep, Spock alludes to the dark period of Vulcan's history numerous times, usually comparing it to humanity's social development. And the entire opening scene of Star Trek the Motion Picture is about this very thing. We are introduced to Kohlinar, which is more or less the Vulcan equivalent of a Zen or Buddha discipline, developed to bring about tranquility in the mind of the practitioner. In the monologue, it quite bluntly states that Vulcans would have wiped themselves out in a furious rage, had they not adopted their logic-based philosophy. That's mostly a sign of the age of the show. Traditional Sci-Fi didn't often focus on personal drama. It's only in recent years where that has taken more of the spotlight away from the 'dryer' points of such stories. Watch a few episodes of modern Dr. Who and then watch a few of the first doctor. Even the original Battlestar Galactica (which really isn't that old) when compared to the reboot has a very noticeable formula difference as it applies to the dramatic element. Pretty much every genre has been tip-toeing its way closer to soap opera in the past decade or so, probably catering to the modern audience's obsession with 'gossip' news and reality shows.

Heh, it didn't take long for this to turn extremely funny.

So, I've reached that point where I want to construct (or try anyway) a 'super ship' in orbit that more or less can travel anywhere in the solar system. Refueling and landing entirely handled through docking. This will probably prove to be impossible, but before I drive myself crazy calculating DeltaV's, the big snag I'm running into now is how to operate the darned thing. Given the size of it, each of the engines will be getting sent up from Kerbin on its own and then attached to the main craft. To further complicate things, I want to use nuclear engines for breaking/entering planetary orbits, and use ion engines when the sun is the dominant factor. This would require me to enable/disable a LOT of engine parts when I'm switching between the two drive systems. But at least in the stock game, I've seen no way to alter action groups (even though you can alter stage configurations) after the ship has been built. So, after I assemble this thing in orbit, is there anyway I can reconfigure the controls so I can operate the engines at the touch of a button? Or am I stuck going through a ridiculous amount of right-clicking? Note, I am not opposed to installing a mod that will allow me to do this.

Asteroid heading towards Kerbin!!!!
vger replied to Deadpangod3's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Folks in the testing pool were intentionally crashing asteroids into Kerbin. Not only was there no damage, but the impact was quite... undramatic. -
Stargate SG-1. They NAILED the classic Trek formula and it had a huge following. The main difference is a stronger sense of continuity between the episodes. The rest is largely superficial (such as method of travel).

So... no idea of all the details behind how all of this went down. Did you even get to present a plan before you got the boot? Guess what I'm curious about now is, do you still want to do it? Could you manage a team? Have you done all the research to a point that you could show it to someone and convince them that this can work? Because if so... Kickstarter. If your presentation is good enough, you could probably get all the funding necessary from the KSP community alone. Heck, if you're cool with putting the KSP brand on the mission, you might even be able to get some support from Squad. An amateur lunar probe? It's almost worth the $15,000 price tag just to say that it happened.

Roller coasters without gravity? You can't really call it a roller COASTER anymore. -
Gosh, can't wait to see photos of a comet up close.

Heh, I've been wondering whether this was possible after an amusing incident on Minmus. I had sent a rover there unmanned to be later driven during EVA's... well I needed to use a probe core to get it there. But after landing, the core was no longer needed and was a waste of weight. So, I gave it a pair of mini-boosters to send it harmlessly away from the rover when it detached. Darned thing escaped Kerbin entirely.

Arctania has applied for membership in the Alliance. Not much to offer right now besides a slight food surplus though. It's more or less a glorified farmer's market until I can get financial revenue to a more comfortable growth rate.

Spagetification on Eve? (Thanks)
vger replied to Technical Ben's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Radial engines are your friend. You'll be able to get just as much thrust without the lander being so ridiculously tall. That will at least help with stability. -
I'm a little worried about the future of this game...
vger replied to Renaissance0321's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think there's a little too much panic here. Remember Microsoft Flight Simulator? From what I recall, there was really no goal in that game. It was just there so you could have fun flying around. But there have been... HOW many versions sold of that game now? -
Random planetary starting point work arounds
vger replied to LethalDose's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I was already wondering if multiplayer was going to have such a feature. In the event of having modes of play other than co-op in the same space program, multiple launch sites will certainly be a necessity. -
Yeah... did anyone seriously not see this coming? Apollo is kicking serious tail at the moment.

Gosh, that would make for an utterly hilarious spinoff game though. Heck with that. I want a Jules Verne cannon. -
