  1. Oh yeah the crane mod. Just wondering - the spaceport site had a fix for the kethane.dll, but the mod itself there was outdated. does the kethane fix still work?
  2. OMG how do I connect the smelter and get liquidfuel into the launchpad?!?
  3. Is there a way to make rocket parts or must they be sent from kerbin?
  4. I'm trying to fly to the underground caves on tylo, and so I looked up the coordinates online. the map website (http://www.kerbalmaps.com/) said it was at "40.2671 : 174.0467" (carl sagan's face was the one near the equator). I'm lazy, so I wanted to use mechjeb's landing auropilot, but there's one problem: mechjeb's coordinates use a different format. it's like the 40 degrees north, 26', 71". I have no idea ho to read these coordinates. are they the same - for example, does 40.2671 : 174.0467 = 40°, 26', 71"N : 174°, 4', 67"W?
  5. Can you consider extending the deadline? it's not possible to get to another planet in under a year.
  6. That's the best one I've heard so far.
  7. Man I would love to see a mod that takes this scenario into play - the whole ice age thing. I like the "after 200 days, no launches from KSC." thing. the number of kerbals you had on the colonies would increase slowly but exponentially, and after about a year, kerbin's orbit would increase until it looked like minmus or eeloo. I'll give this one a try after I finish my evean prison.
  8. Yes, it is true that Jool is tiny compared to its analog, Jupiter. The planets/moons and even the sun in ksp are much, much smaller than they would be irl, but that's just to save computer power. If all the celestial bodies in ksp were scaled up to their analog's size (Kerbin would be bigger than jool is now), imagine how laggy the game would get. We're sort of supposed to imagine.
  9. I have this plan to get a space station of sorts into orbit around eve. It's not so much a space station as a starship, because it's battleship-shaped and has its own propulsion. I'm obviously going to construct it in orbit. The question is, what orbit? Would it be easier to build my whole starship in Kerbin orbit, then send it to eve, or to send the pieces individually and assemble them there?
  10. what about manganese phosphate and cobalt violet? they're very purple minerals. it could also be a complex organic compound like tyrian purple, which could have formed spontaneously from amino acids in eve's atmosphere. it doesn't sound likely, but keep in mind that it's not unheard of for complex organic molecules to form abiotically (I wouldn't be sitting here if it weren't for pheneomena like this)
  11. the tidal waves on laythe must be crazy. Since laythe is tidally locked to jool, and jool is gigantic and very close, wouldn't the sea rise up much higher where it's closest to jool, and stay there? correct me if I'm being a dumbass.
  12. did yout try using the IJKL keys instead of the WASD keys? DEMVs use the IJKL keys now. for no reason at all.
  13. Aren't there any props that use only electricity and not liquidfuel?
  14. why would you need to dock it again? just put it back in the recon unit and click "close garage" if you want to keep it inside.
  15. don't these shuttles have chutes to slow down their landing?
  16. Is there any sort of greenhouse or something that will forever recycle CO2 into O2? I have a mun base and a minmus base and I don't want to have to always keep bringing them oxygen. my idea is 3 kinds of greenhouses: 1: gas-recycle greenhouse a hydroponic greenhouse of large-leafed plants. perfect for recycling large amounts of CO2 into breathable oxygen. 2: water-recycle greenhouse a greenhouse full of plants with large root systems, great for extracting impurities from urine to recycle it into drinkable water. 3: nutrient-recycle greenhouse a greenhouse full of fruit bearing plants, which use fertilizer from organic waste to grow rich fruit. obviously, greenhouse 1 turns CO2 into O2, 2 turns Wastewater into Water, and 3 turns Waste into Food. they'd have to be slow and super heavy to balance it, but that makes sense.
  17. I do consider myself a total rocket geek... now that i've played ksp so much.
  18. I'll try using the kethane mod etc. to make a minmian spaceport colony. I love the idea. also brotoro has an excellent mission story about colony stuff on laythe. check it out.
  19. I've tried and failed many times to get my ships to dock in kerbin orbit. I know why - my space station is moving at over 2000 m/s orbital speed! in Scott Manly's vids, his orbital speed is like 50. I can't burn retrograde because it lowers my periapsis, and that makes me aerobrake and crash back into kerbin. how do I launch a station with a slower orbit?
  20. If you wanted to drive all the way around a celestial body, why didn't you just choose gilly? you'd be done in like 10 minutes.
  21. Why do we need a fuel tank in the prison cell? wouldn't that just make it easier for them to escape? also, can I use radial intakes instead of a circular one?
  22. As painful as it was to read this post, I have to agree with you. I love Minmus. I love getting there, landing on it, fooling around, and flying back to kerbin. you're right in that it's pretty easy to reach and incredibly easy to leave. The frozen lakes would provide plenty of hydrogen and oxygen, both which are infinitely useful. You wouldn't need to bring your own nitrogen though, because pure oxygen is totally fine to breathe (that is, if you're a human. I'm assuming Kerbals have a similar respiratory system to that of humans). Other than that, I think a spaceport colony on Minmus is a great idea.
  23. Come on. The water can be tinted or shaded by the sediments in it (or in the Caribbean's case, the lack of them). this is what makes the water clear or murky. If you look at a glass of water, it looks totally clear (hopefully). If you fill your bathtub up, the water is the same color as the ceiling. because water's surface is reflective. Duh. for the most part, the sea looks blue because the sky is blue.
