How much gravity would a Minecraft world have?
mr_yogurt replied to Souper's topic in Science & Spaceflight
According to my math (which is awful), if the minecraft world had the same density as our world on average, a minecraft world would weigh 1.447 * 10^21 kilograms. This is just shy of a 50th of the mass of our moon. If only minecraft were deeper... -
If you can find 13,150 people with CubeSats that weigh one kilogram on average, they all can send a CubeSat to space (LEO) at around $5,000 per CubeSat. The only issue is that they are all riding the same rocket to space (a falcon 9) and will be all really close when they get there. (also you could do 4,850 people at around $13,000 a cubesat to GTO) But finding that many people who have CubeSats and would also pay the price would be difficult.

Updated the main page for Kasuha's entry. I'm not going to make it official just yet.
-
Do a normal inside pod like everyone else I don't think that those cargo bays are pressurized. Or magically make seats comfortable. Also, I updated the leaderboard.
-
Yeah, you have to put the tourists on the ground. I guess I should have stated that explicitly I updated the rules.
-
You're probably good if you upload all the pictures you took Every ascent and landing should be good (plus interplanetary transfers). Also, I would like to see the recovery. And it's fine as long as you can take 144 kerbals to laythe with your current setup plus massless parts (ladders) if you had to.
-
It looks like an awful lot of people wanted a change in the mod policy. Now all mods that do not affect gameplay or add parts can be in the "stock" leaderboard. Mods that do can still contend for the modded leaderboard.
-
To keep it fair, you should move them all over to a career save. Part clipping is fine if you don't use the debug menu.
-
I like that. If you want to make one that would be great (I'm a terrible designer)! But if it was something where you put it in your signature, it seems a bit unfair if everyone has one that links to your mission. It should just link to the front page. I'll put a link to it on the front page so people can put it in their signature when they've finished it.

Circumnavigate Kerbin...BY FOOT.
mr_yogurt replied to MedwedianPresident's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
It never said in the rules that you aren't allowed to make a foot shaped spaceship. Someone should do that. -
Cool. FIRST ENTRY HYPE WOOT! I've updated the leaderboard and added Ziv at the top. (and the bottom and the middle).
-
Due to people really wanting me to ban seats on interplanetary trips, I edited the rules as such.
-
1. I wanted to make it so that how soon it becomes profitable is a factor, but it would be too complex for everyone to get the maths right. 2. Well, it doesn't matter. But if you REALLY want to not count the Kerbal who pilots it as a passenger, you can. Although only counting passengers would be more realistic. You can command seat anywhere. This is KSP, not Orbiter. Also if enough people do the challenge I might create a separate leaderboard to include the cost of infrastructure somewhat.
-
I didn't hear that. I read that.
-
....I am an american and I've never heard it used by a fellow american. Maybe it's different for different parts of the US?
-
I lost Jeb, Bill, and Bob trying to build a spaceplane. And also two other kerbals.
-
I've never heard an american use the term "fiver". I thought that was a Europe thing.
-
Not everyone will land at KSC.
-
Actually, you do. The problem with doing it in sandbox mode is that you need to know recovery costs which aren't shown in career mode.
-
Your goal is to make the cheapest possible self sustaining Laythe bus, with a Laythe bus being a spacecraft that can take kerbals to Laythe, land, and return to Kerbin safely. You are allowed to transfer kerbals to separate spacecraft if you wish. Just remember to include the cost of each space craft. What you want to do is be able to take people to Laythe and back with the cheapest possible price per ticket that will be able to keep the program running indefinitely. This means that a ticket needs to be able to pay for the fuel there and back, all dropped stages, and the costs of recovery of dropped vessels. If a fueling trip to a station that refuels the Laythe bus needs to happen every 10 tickets, then a ticket will have to include 1/10th of that refueling trip's cost. If a Laythe bus drops stages (not recommended), a ticket needs to include the cost of those lost stages. Note: 1 ticket is for one kerbal, so if each trip takes 2 kerbals and costs 1000 funds (no idea if that figure is realistic. I doubt it) in total, then a ticket costs 500 funds. Obviously, if the craft can land at the KSC, then you don't have to include the cost of it in the total cost. If it can't, you need to include the recovery costs in the ticket. You do not have to account for the cost of permanent infrastructure, however. Only things that happen regularly. Example (arbitrary costs): SSTO rocket that takes 3 kerbals to a space station that holds the interplanetary bus (also holds 3 kerbals) that can land at KSC: 1000 funds (fuel) Refueling trip for interplanetary bus - 10000 funds per trip, refueling trip once every ten tickets (fuel is held at station), 10000/10: 1000 funds Refueling trip for spaceplane at laythe for descent - 30000 funds per trip, refueling trip once every ten tickets (fuel is held at station), 30000/10: 3000 funds Interplanetary bus has enough fuel to go to laythe and back, SSTO ascent rocket stayed at station until the kerbals got back to take them home. Total trip cost: 5000 funds. Total ticket cost: 1667 funds. Rules: No debug menu. Missions with mods will compete for a separate leaderboard than the missions without mods. However, mods that do not affect how rockets fly or add parts can be used in the stock leaderboard. (unless I deem the mod OP) This has to be done in Career mode, for obvious reasons. You need to document every trip that will be made regularly for this program to be self sustaining with photo evidence (or video). Kerbals don't like sitting in uncomfortable seats on interplanetary trips. Seats can't be used on interplanetary trips. Your kerbals have to actually be able to walk around on Laythe's surface. The difficulty setting for Funds Rewards needs to be at 100% No strategies. You are allowed to HyperEdit your permanent infrastructure into orbit, but not trips that will need to be made regularly. Also you can hack funds and science into your career mode if you wish. LEADERBOARD Laie - .90 - 43 Funds per ticket Right - .90 - 53 Funds per ticket Kulebron - .25 - 66 Funds per ticket Kulebron - .24 - 95 Funds per ticket Nao - .24 - 110 Funds per ticket Zorph - .25 - 133 Funds per ticket Kasuha - .24 - 170 Funds per ticket Mesklin - .24 - 245 Funds per ticket astrobond - .25 - 356 Funds per ticket Norcalplanner - .24 - 589 Funds per ticket Laie - .24 - 698 Funds per ticket (Three pilots) Ziv - .24 - 1376 Funds per ticket (One pilot) MODDED LEADERBOARD hoioh - 39 Funds per ticket - .90 - B9 cadaverific - 113 Funds per ticket - .25 - B9, FAR For people who have completed the challenge: I have an official badge now! Thanks to Ziv, who made it! If I've made any errors or if something needs clarification, let me know.

Munar Misers - a Stock 0.23.5 Challenge
mr_yogurt replied to Concentric's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I can smash a kerbal into the mun for pretty cheap. I don't know about landing one there, let alone landing and returning. I have a video of a spacecraft that could smash into the mun that cost less than 1,000 kerbucks. (I made a challenge a while back). But it was probe powered. But since the probe I attached has the same weight and higher drag than the seat, I should be able to smash a kerbal into the mun for 1830 kerbucks (sadly seat is pricey). video - This is not a submission, obviously. -
SSTI (Single Stage to Infrastructure) Challenge
mr_yogurt replied to that1guy's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I guess you could say my computer is beastly. However, that particular SSTO is only 47 parts. I had a similar design using lots of the Rockomax 48-7S for thrust, and it was over 2000 parts if I remember correctly. Very painful to fly. Crashes if I load it from the VAB. Have to load it onto the launch pad directly. But I discovered that the big Kerbodyne engine is better than lots of those little ones so I switched and now it's only 47 parts. (and another slightly larger one I made has 167 parts) -
I just had Jebediah pick. Jebediah always picks the biggest one.

... 5%? I got 10% without trying. I used the new gigantor engines and tanks. a 3-1 ratio of tanks to engine (biggest tank and biggest engine) will get you a 10% payload fraction. 9 tanks and 3 engines will get you something that can take up a full tank (biggest one) and come back down to kerbin if you add parachutes.
