Decoupling stages at the wrong time
Superfluous J replied to SagansSpace's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you hover your mouse over the events in the stages, the parts that will do that thing will highlight. This is how I troubleshoot any and all staging problems. Works in flight and in the VAB. -
Haha I just found a bug in this. The level 0 runway does not have a "destroyed" state. If you set it as such in the SFS file the runway is not able to be repaired, but you can't "launch" to it because it's broken. You can however build a craft in the (repaired) SPH and then click the runway and launch your craft. The cool thing is this allows a (buggy and clunky) way to start a career on default Normal settings ($25,000 starting funds in particular) with the ability to launch craft (because repairing the SPH and VAB each cost a bit over $23,000 and you don't have enough money after to repair the launch pad). EDIT: You can also go to and fully utilize the astronaut complex from the SPH if it's destroyed. Seems not too many people bug test with destroyed buildings.

Okay I was curious enough to do this, and it's actually quite easy if you are comfortable editing the persistent.sfs file. Start a new save. Do nothing in that save and just exit out. Open the persistent.sfs file. Search and replace "intact = True" with "intact = False" (no quotes in the search terms) Save that file. Open your save. Enjoy! This may or may not become a challenge in the future. EDIT: It won't. It was pretty easy to fix everything and then it's just a normal game. I suggest people try it though because it was a bit fun and something I'd never really experienced before.

More realistic KSC
Superfluous J replied to KerbalChamp2006's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The entire reason the buildings are destructible is so people have better reasons to crash rockets into them. Regarding the OP no I don't want any more dev time spent on anything within 50km of the launch pad. And anything within 50Mm of the launch pad can wait until all those places more than 50Mm are dealt with. Except maybe the Sun and Jool. -
Does anyone have a KSP 0.23 copy lying around anywhere?
Superfluous J replied to Clockwork13's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If you bought it off of GoG they seem to have all past versions there as well. I don't know because I don't have it on GoG but someone posted an image of a page with all the links once. -
This is why I don't like to open source my code.

Kerbal Space Program 1.4.4 and Making History 1.3 launching today!
Superfluous J replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2018
I thought it was introduced in 1.4.3 and taken out in 1.4.4 but I don't pay much attention because Squad using my play style to help design their game actually sounded kind of a good thing to me. -
Same analysis I did for the first question below.
-
I'll keep an eye out for it, though I've never had that problem with other shows.
-
If somoene tells me that because of some sort of expectance-based theory of whateveritis that my analysis is incorrect, I'm going to go all Deer Hunter on you.
-
I really enjoyed the first couple seasons, then it got a bit boring and I stopped watching. It's on Netflix, I should go back and try it again.

"We can't tell for sure so it must be 50/50" is not the correct way to logic. I either have a laptop on my desk or a suitcase full of Aztec gold. But you can't tell from where you are and sometimes my laptop is not on my desk so therefore it must be 50/50.
-
It doesn't work that way. You can say it's 50/50 here because it basically is but if humans reproduced in 1:9 ratios boys to girls, it'd be a 1:9 chance the other kid was a boy, not 1:1.

Steam Workshop - No Option To Update?
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in Making History Support
Hm. Oh well hopefully I won't need another version. 2 more and 10% of all missions on Steam will be that one -
Paint/flags
Superfluous J replied to Cheif Operations Director's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Those are very good mods, but that doesn't make them in the base game. I too would like this in the base game. I'd especially like it if they bore the name of the ship. -
Thats a very nice report you should read.
Superfluous J replied to nguyenthu012's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Sounds more like a headline than a report. I'm surprised it doesn't say "...and they couldn't stop staring." -
Okay version 3 is up and - as before - it's a new mission on Steam Workshop AND KerbalX.

Steam Workshop - No Option To Update?
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in Making History Support
When you edit it, do you edit the "steam" version or the local version? -
I have never really used Steam Workshop except as a user, to get assets for other games. So maybe I just don't understand something. I'm hoping that someone else can point me in the correct direction or tell me "yeah that's how it works." I made a mission. It's called the Jool Mix-Up. I uploaded it to Steam through the KSP interface and as far as I can tell that's the only way to do it. In the Mission Briefing tab there's a Steam button and clicking that posts the mission on Steam. It had a bug, which I fixed. The only way I could see to resubmit it to Steam was through the same interface, which I did. And it posted a 2nd Workshop item that looked exactly like the first one. That one ALSO had a bug (Hey it's not just Squad that has to make multiple releases) and I just fixed it, and sure enough there are now 3 "Jool Mix-Up" missions in the workshop. I've made the earlier 2 of them "Hidden" so new users won't be confused, but all the people subscribed to the earlier ones will not have any idea I updated. And even ignoring that this seems clunky enough for me to wonder... am I doing it wrong?

What did you do on your first KSP Flight?
Superfluous J replied to blimpsnack's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The very very first thing I did? No clue. Probably a capsule, some fuel tanks, and what we now call the Swivel. It was back in the demo in 2013. I can tell you that the first real mission I undertook was a Mun landing. It was my personal requirement to decide if the game was worth buying. I completed it within the first weekend of learning that the game existed, and bought it within minutes of splashing back down on Kerbin. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Superfluous J replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Because they never thought of it before. Instead of a galaxy of people trying to kill each other, it was a room full of writers trying to make entertainment. There are thousands of things they didn't think of. As an aside, I personally never thought of it. -

Superfluous J replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
For about a week now. My GF won't stop telling Alexa to play it all through the house.
