Equatorial Orbits Of Minmus
Superfluous J replied to The Flying Kerbal's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You basically have to arrive at Minmus going UP when it's going DOWN, or DOWN when it's going UP. I don't know what your inclination should be, though. I suspect you'd have to be quite polar, though, as when you arrive at Minmus you're traveling quite slowly so won't have much north/south speed. I'm sure there's math that'd tell you. Essentially you want your north/south velocity when you're at Minmus' orbit to be equal to and opposite to Minmus' north/south velocity. But really it's far easier to just align your orbit when you get there, or learn to not care if you're equatorial or not. EDIT: Also, you'd have to make sure you enter Minmus' SOI at the equator. Good luck with that I have no idea how to ensure it. -
It's tough, and I don't suggest you ever try except to try it. I've personally never succeeded though I did try quite a few times after seeing someone do it on YouTube. Sadly that was over 4 years ago and the few searches I tried failed. The basic idea is to make sure you're never going down much until the VERY end. You skim the surface slowly tilting more and more upward, sacrificing slowing down for keeping your "orbit" above the ground. By the time you can't keep it in the "air," you're going slow enough that you can stop. In theory. In practice, it's close enough to be impossible that I personally gave up on it. And even if you DO do everything correctly, an unplaned-for mountain can totally ruin your day.

Closest approach markers bugged?
Superfluous J replied to icarustours's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Sounds like you are closest to the station *now* (at the maneuver), so the markers are telling you where you currently are (well, where the maneuver is). By speeding up, you are forcing your ship further from the station so it's not accurate to say you'll be closer. When you maneuver to slow the station down, it's (duh) slowing down bringing the two vessels closer. So, the closest point is in the future relative to the station. And don't bother telling me that this information is not useful and that you'd far rather have the closest approach markers indicate where you and the target would be when their ORBITS are closest, and not just at whatever random point the SHIPS happen to be closest. My voice (fingers) got hoarse (carpal tunnel) trying to convince them to do that years ago, and I still to this day feel just as adamant about it. I've just given up trying to convince anybody. -
Totally not fair. That guy paid you 6 funds for dirt he could have dug up his own self.

Populating base with tourists
Superfluous J replied to FlyingPete's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm not 100% sure you can transfer the suckers colonists between pods. -
I only use the Nerv for getting to Moho. All other targets don't need that much efficiency and I'd rather have shorter burn times. I also sometimes use them for a big Jool ship, but that's pretty rare. But I always use more than one, and always drop them once the mass or dv needs drop low enough. To answer the specific "how do you get to Duna?" question: Terriers.

Make the DLC partially free.
Superfluous J replied to SpacePilotMax's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
And how much of that was made by paying developers to give stuff away for free? -
The one that always got me was, what person - presumably a tartar - said "you know what would go good with this fried fish? Mayo and pickles." ?

Will It Run?
Superfluous J replied to Luke324's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Based on the below post, KSP should stop rendering in real time before you get 200 parts on a vessel. Not great, not terrible. -
EVE. I know it exists but I never use it anymore because of performance issues, mostly load times.

259: Not noticing you are at a significant number in the list (like 255) and therefore missing an opportunity to make a related joke.

Kerbin should have a pole inclination
Superfluous J replied to Hunony's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I think the team that added Krakensbane and procedural Mun craters and multi-orbit-predictive patched conics could add separate axial tilts to the game. If only they still worked here. Regarding "should"s, Kerbin should be tilted to the Sun, 20-25 degrees so it's Earthlike. Mun should be tilted as well, so it's still easy to get to from Kerbin's equator. Going to a tilted Mun from a tilted Kerbin would be exactly like going to the Mun now, if both are tilted the same. Minmus should orbit Kerbin in the ecliptic, so it's still tilted relative to Kerbin, but is now NOT tilted relative to the Sun and the majority of planets' orbits. That way, Minmus is about as difficult to get to as it is now from Kerbin, but offers a nice tasty launch point for interplanetary maneuvers. Eve should rotate backwards (and slowly) like Venus, and GP2 (while we're "should"ing here) should be added and rotate on its side like Uranus. -
Do this as a mod

And orbit info, but only in map mode. Where you can't stage and the navball is hidden by default.

The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I don't see why not, and if you do it, I'll happily make a "no contracts" exception for you if you hack in the Ultimate Challenge contract and complete it after you otherwise win so you don't get to utilize the science, money, or rep. Or if you hack those out of the payment. Or if you just do it without the contract, of course. Note a Jool 5 is contained within the Ultimate contract, and you're severely hampering yourself in a Caveman save by not taking contracts but hey, others have done crazy Caveman stuff that I thought unreachable (like going to Duna and the like). -
[1.3] NavBallTextureChanger v1.6 (8/7/17)

I lost the layered data long ago. I accidentally deleted the entire directory right after uploading the finished image. -
The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That's actually the main reason I stopped doing KSP videos. For regular games it's play 2 hours, edit 10 minutes, get 2 hours of video. For KSP it's play 2 hours, edit for 2 hours, get 15 minutes of video. -
The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Very well done @Kergarin! That final Eve SSTO was amazing. I can barely get off of Eve, and most things I build that can, have trouble landing. You didn't even need to do it for the challenge and you made it look easy. -
My major gripe is that they mishandled that entire meeting between Parzival and ... the guy who ran the whole project at IOI. That was *the* scene in the book that I will never forget and in the movie if you coughed at the right time you could have missed it. However all in all I LOVED it. That final battle was epic and worth the 3d IMAX ticket.

It may not be unplayable, but I'm sure not playing it.

I use -popupwindow and have for years, don't have fullscreen checked, and am on Windows 10. I never really cared about the start bar so didn't pay attention before, but I just tried it now and no, it does not show up if I click on something else while KSP is running. However it does show up without fail if I hit the Windows key or ctrl-esc, and goes away if I hit it again, regardless of if I have KSP as my active window or not.
